A really good Gil Turtle strat, if you're not high level enough to just pwn him. ;)

This is how I beat him, my characters are all at level 36.

I made three of my characters White Mages, and one a Black Mage. (I've usually been playing with two characters on melee, and two on casters, for the entire game.) The Black Mage and one White Mage I equipped with the ability Dual Cast, and the other two white mages I just gave 30% HP bonus, because it was the only "melee" ability that would help them during the fight.

Before the fight, I cast float on all my party members, to avoid the big 3k damage earthquake that the turtle does before he dies.

Then, it's pretty easy. Just cast protect on all your party members at the beginning of the fight, and have the Black Mage Dual Cast Blizzaga. Also, I found that keeping up the Blink spell on everyone decreased the need to heal. It has three charges, so the upkeep was pretty simple. You don't even have to cast Esuna or anything to get rid of the poison and blind debuffs that he puts on your party, because you can heal through it, and you're not meleeing anyway.

After that, sit back, and heal as needed.

I ended up using an elixir on my Black Mage, as he ran out of mana two rounds before the fight was over.

So, yeah! This may be a long fight, but it's hard to fail with this strat.

If you had more than two caster characters, you could equip them with better abilities, like more black magic, or time magic, because the fight basicly takes care of itself, after the initial protect buff. I just did it this way because I've been playing with a half and half system.

Anyway. I hope that this helps.

what i did was have a warrior with the twin skill you learn from the ninja. then i just made sure that all of my people exept the warrior where about to die. so then i cast the haste spell with one person on the warrior so his twin abillity can be easally used without running out of turns to evade the attack.

all you really need is 1 warrior with twin
a black mage or sombody that has ice on attack because that is the turtles weakness.
a time mage also can have black magic
and anythin else

float is important to have before battle.
what happens is if all of your people are in critical your warrior will try to guard critical players and if the warrior has a evade skill then he will make it miss for the both of them.

I used an EASIER method, that requires
a) One Summoner
b) The rest is your choice.

You start the battle with float. I gave hermes sandals to everyone.
Each of the summoner's turns, I used Golem. I had my Faris as a freelacer, with the Rainbow Dress (I didn't give her the shoes, cause I wanted haste). It inspires swords dance. With dual wield, I did 8x the damage. To heal, I used White Wind. In fact, I video taped it. This is a REALLY easy strategy, specially if you've mastered Dancer.
It's good, I'm surprised too.

The video is uploading, when it's uploaded, I'll edit the link in, and if theres more replies, I'll just post it lower.

Wow, the dancer class ACTUALLY has a use...you know I even used the Bard, alot, and I loved it! The only really useless class is a Berserker cos you can't control it. Otherwise I used all the classes!

there.
Yea, Berserker, I don't like =_=
Thank god I beat the Aevis and got the Rainbow Dress that inspires Sword Dance. I would be DEAD. or the battle would have lasted 4ever.

Golem is the best summon along with Carnbucle. Really.

The Philosopher's Stone: those who possess it, no longer bound by the laws of Equivalent Exchange in Alchemy, you gain without sacrifice, create without Equal Exchange. We searched for it, and we found it.
The world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete. Equivalent Exchange doesn't encompass everything that goes on here. But I still choose to believe in its principle: that all things do come at a price. That there's an ebb, and a flow, a cycle. That the pain we went through did have a reward and that anyone who's determined and perseveres will get something of value in return, even if it's not what they expected.
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
It's an equation. Your output has to be of equal mass and materials to what you started with. The base elements have to be similar too. Like the radio I fixed - I couldn't make it bigger, or a tree, or something.

Here's a slightly easier variation on Rufinito's strategy. I faced Gilgame/Gil Turtle (in FF Anthology) with four bards (since no one had mastered !Sing yet), my fastest of which had !Summon and a Hair Ornament (half MP cost), and one other had !Time. The others had !White, but I never needed it.

Here is the strategy (Which works far better than using Blink, in my opinion):

Noteworthy Info: Every time Gilgame is attacked, he counters with the "Turtle" ability which attacks the party twice for high damage. Otherwise, he just attacks normally with one hit.

1) Cast Golem. I found out after a few battles with Gilgame that my Golem shield always wore off after EVERY FIVE HITS from Gilgame (I believe it has to do with damage sustained). Anyway, this is the key: ALWAYS keep a count how many times he attacks you physically, including Turtle. Each Turtle attack should be counted as two hits, not one. You want to summon Golem only after he has hit you EXACTLY five times.

2) Have your !Time user cast Haste2 on everyone. This makes it easier for Gilgame to only attack five times per round and not six. Next round, have him/her cast Float on everyone, or else you'll never win out in the end. If you want, you can cast Slow2 on Gilgame, but it doesn't always work, nor does it really matter once you're all hasted. DO NOT cast ANY magic that can cause damage to Gilgame or else he will use Turtle.

3) With two members casting the above, you have two bards left to !Sing Requiem, which should do at least 2,000 damage with each hit, though likely more. He will counterattack each song with Turtle (four attacks total). He may or may not use a regular physical attack as well.

4) This is the tricky part to remember: After Gilgame uses Turtle twice, it should be your !Summon user's turn again. If Gilgame has only attacked four times, WAIT for him to attack again normally, and THEN cast Golem. Otherwise, your !Summon user will attempt to summon Golem, but fail. Then, the next of Gilgame's attacks will be blocked by Golem, but the remaining attacks will fall through your defenses and cripple your party.

I know this sounds difficult, but it's not. Once you get the rhythm down, it's terribly easy and you only have to worry about constantly restoring MP for ONE CHARACTER since Requiem, unlike Ice3/Blizzaga, costs 0 MP. The !Time user will need an occasional MP boost, but (since Float status is retained post-battle) you really only need enough MP for this character to cast Haste2 each battle. Not only that, but if you get the Golem timing down, GILGAME CANNOT DAMAGE YOU. That means, ideally, that no one should ever need to use !White, and you can keep fighting him as long as your !Summon user doesn't run out of MP for Golem.

Note, however, that once your !Time user is done casting support spells, there will be little left for him/her to do besides !Sing Requiem. If you do this, then he will use Turtle THREE times and at least one of those six attacks will pass through your Golem shield. To prevent this, have your !Time user Defend when he/she has no more useful support magic to cast. This way, Gilgame will attack only five times and not six. Either that, or you can have this character use Ethers on your !Summon user as necessary.

Since I don't have the luxury of playing via an emulator, I had a few runs through the cave in which he attacked me (no joke) every three steps. However, using this strategy, he went down really easily every time. Note that this strategy may not work in non-PSX versions. I'd still recommend trying it though since it seems the easiest and least annoying way.

Also, if anyone cares, my levels were in the early-to-mid thirties, so this can really be done regardless of level. All you really need level-wise are high enough levels so that your !Summon user acts before Gilgame.
