Help for Starters.
Okay, I just got Dawn of Souls for my SP and I'm just started playing FF2. I've played a lot of the other FFs so I know a lot about how to play the game but I just wanted to know if anyone has any specific tips for 2 of if I should just play it like I would any other.

Train magic. Train different weappons. And uhm...save money.
Magic: Yes, at the beginning of the game you should train Cure and Fire, Ice and Lighting to lvl 6. If you don't like training them, just train Cure for lvl 6. It is most important magic in FF's. Weapons: Train them too. LvL 6 is alright once again. And train different weapons. Because in the end of game you get good weapons like Yoichis Bow but if you have sucky Bow stat, it is useless. Money: If you play NES version you should save money. On new version you don't have to because you get it easily. I expect that you know that, you know how training works in FF II. If you doesn't, I tell. Every weapon and magic has their own stats. When you use weapon or magic in battle, it gets it own 'exp'. When you have use it enought in battle it gets lvl. Max lvl for weapons is 16. And if you want they lvl easily, battle in Peninsula Of Power. They get lvl there fast but you can die fast also. If you want more info, just ask. |

Okay, I've been training my weapons. I'll be going along just fine and all, but then I gain a lvl and after that I stop building up. It's not that I just don't notice it going up because it's going up slow sense I got a lvl either. I've watched it carefully and it completely stops for a long time. I can't figure out why...but after another half hour of playing, it starts building up again. You know why?

I had trouble with that too, you just need to face tougher monster and be next to an inn, that is very important.
One really cheap thing to do is this: 1.) Make sure everyone in the party has cure 2.) Go find some really weak monsters 3.) Have all your characters beat each other nearly to death 4.) Heal everyone 5.) Kill the monsters 6.) Rinse and repeat Doing this will raise your characters Cure Spells, Health, and Weapon skills. I did that and my people became extremely powerful.

I don't know asnwer to your question why they did that. I have myself also DoS version but I have never seen problem like that. I have/had one but I know how I can make without that. Yes, if you want to be powerful at the beginning use TheBlob's trick. It isn't really secret of the game. It is just trick how to boost your characters powerful at the beginning of the game. |

Pretty much stated above except don't bother with any spell OTHER than cure because they are all horrible and don't change much in damage at all. The best thing you could probably do is level up your weapons the most and stock as much gil for future Mithril purchases.
Also when beating your characters up kill the enemies when you on low life and don't heal them much at all when you enter the next fight because it makes it so much easier to get more HP and vit. |

Other people mentioned this tip, but it was kind of vague and didn't mention MP.
In FF2j, if your character loses about half their HP in battle, their max HP will rise. It doesn't matter if the damage comes from enemies or yourself, so smack yourself around a bit and then after the battle is over you can cure yourself. However, I find the trick doesn't work as well when you do it several times in a row, so usually I would smack one character around during one battle and do another one later. I think the same goes for MP, but since charging up MP can be a pain, it might be best to drain your MP when you are near an inn or something. However, often your other characters will kill the enemies before you can drain enough MP, so have them smack around another character while one casts a ton of spells. Enjoy! |
