What is Final Fantasy Tactics?

I've never heard of it, that's why I'm stupid!

Is it a FF game?
Help would be much appriciated!!

uh ya its a FF game like Final Fantasy tactics advance. Its for the ps1 and its a really good game with alot of characters and classes. And you can actually get cloud in there

I find it kinda odd that you never heard of it. It's such an old classic. You should find a copy and play it. Though, I'll have to wish you luck in finding it.

FFT is one of the best FF games out there, however it isn't your typical "RPG". First off, it's based more on strategy, classes, and a lot of other things that really make it stand out from the original games. Right now there is the old 1998 version of FFT and then a couple years ago they released a sort of sequel to the game on the GBA.

Don't try to compare FFT to FFX. They are completely different types of games. FFX was more "traditional" Final Fantasy, but FFT is more tactics-based. It's closer to Tactics Ogre or Front Mission or Bahamut Lagoon than to any of it's FF brethren.

In most FF's, when you select "Attack," your character runs up, whacks the enemy, and runs back to his starting point. This is because position doesn't matter at all. Tactics-based games such as FFT work differently; imagine if the battle was laid out on a chessboard. Your Knight can move three spaces each turn, and if he ends his movement next to an enemy, he can attack that enemy. An Archer can attack from a range, provided he has clear line-of-sight to the enemy (i.e. the enemy isn't behind cover). Magic spells also strike at a range, and they often have area of effect - that is, if there are several enemies grouped closely together, a single spell can hit all of them.

The best way to understand the game is to give it a shot. If you've never played a tactics-rpg before, it may be a bit difficult at first... but if you need help, feel free to ask me or anybody else here. Believe me, it's a game well worth playing.

(I realize that the above is an oversimplified explanation, and I also realize that I have details wrong in some cases. I'd appreciate if people didn't jump on me with things like, "Actually, sometimes archers can shoot over obstacles," or similar minute details. I know all these things already and my goal was to provide a very high-level description of what the game was like.)

I remember declaring Mario RPG was the best game ever, then I played FFVI ^.^

But yeah from a pure Gameplay and presentation standard, FF Tactics is considered one of the BEST FFs in the series by a vast majority of gamers who AREN'T that much of a fan FFX's pretty FMVs and weren't wooed by the likes of Cloud and Sephiroth.

No, you aren't stupid. I'm not sure what it is either, and i have it. Yeas it's a Final Fantasy game, and a really good one too.

Obviously it is an FF game, but overall I don't think its better than FFX. FFT is a great game to play because of the classes and the chess like battle system. I'd prefer playing it on the PS1 than the GBA because the one on the GBA seems a little childish and FFT is much better.
