While surfing the web, I came across this.

I can hear it, I'm totally waiting for my mom to walk in the room so I can play it for her lol. That'd be awesome to use it as a ring tone. *plots to do so*

EDIT: Everyone in my house could hear it, and there's three people living in my house over 50 years old. So what the heck... >_>

Yes, I read about that from magazine also. Because it is so high sound students don't have to turn off they cell-phone or turn they to to 'Silent'...they just can us them in 'General' voice...

I think the reason why only younger people can hear has something to do with the developement of the eardrums.

Lol wow.. this is a really old thread.

I just downloaded the file and played it and yes, I could hear it. It's a horrible noise anyway. They have a stupid advertisement on television now where you can buy that sound for your phone. Ridiculous! How many people actually want that horrible sound for their phone? It's just silly in my opinion and a waste of money to buy. I would rather have a better sound on my phone than that.

The Mosquito Ringtone was made using technology that was originally intended to be played in sections of shopping centres where groups of kids would loiter. The Inventor Howard Stapleton made it for compound security systems. It emits a modulated 17khz sound which is generally only heard by people under 20 due to presbycusisn which is a normal loss of acute hearing that naturally occurs at around age 20, your ear basically loses the ability to hear the high pitched tones (18khz-20khz).

So the mosquito ringtone focuses primarily on holding a steady 17khz noise and there you have it.

I think it was originally something like 14kkhz but wasn't too effective. It is also banned as being used as a detterant in shopping centres in england I think.

...I can't hear it.. What's with that? I know my own age, and I'm under twenty. I do find this rather odd, actually.

Someone in the general area I was sitting in played it, and since I was outside a school pretty much everyone in the area covered their ears. Thing is, I just can't hear it. Not a thing.

And it hurts my friggin ears!

If anyone played that continuously outside of any store I went to I would sue for trying to cause conduction deafness! That ringing won't quit!

They play that infernal sound outside of newsagents and the GOMA and Borders in Glasgow sometimes to keep the kids away. I can hear it clearly.

Though I wouldn't put it on my phone, no way. What's the matter with the vibrate function?

Its the same thing but at a SLIGHTLY different frequency. I'm 19 and I can hear this one, but my friend who is 15 cant. And yet her brother who is 14 can. It has to do with the development of the mind btw. Not the eardrums.
