Skateboarding?

Anyone out there skate at all? I used to back when I was a wee lad, but I recently started again. Anyway, I haven't seen a thread about this yet, so I figured I'd start one. So...do you skate? What kind of equipment do you use?

I'm using:

A Zero deck (7.75 x 31.5)
52mm Mystery wheels
Some cheap Industrial trucks
Some Pig bearings that a friend gave me the other day

Word. I'm sleepy...

I used to skate when it was really popular few years back. I could ollie higher than most of my friends and I could kickflip. I also knew how to drop in on a ramp. I used an Element board and a helmet but I never owned a pair of skate shoes. I used to hate it when possers would were skater name shirts and stuff when none of them could even ride with out falling. Now I wakeboard and slolam a lot but only in the summer because that's the only time I get to. I can get 5 feet in the air on a wake baord it the wake is big enough. I hope you don't me bringing up wakeboarding, it's just that all boarding sports are pretty similar and if you like one you'll probably like the others.

I can't stand seeing people wearing skate company clothes when they don't even know what it is, either. Drives me ****ing nuts, actually.

I've always wanted to try out surfing, but I'm nowhere near a place where I really can at all. I've been on a boogie board, but those are pretty weak.

Lol yeah those are pretty lame. I've tried surfing a lot, my dad wants me to get good at it because everyone here is, also it's a chick magnet. I suck at it though, I can't barly get up. The type of waves you get differ depending on the weather too. Also you steer with the back of the board and not the front like on a skateboard. There's a 13 year old kid here I know who's so good he got sponsered to go to a surf competition in Indonesia.

I used to skate in high school and even a bit after, I wasn't that great but I had quite a bit down. The one thing I could do was ollie really high, I could ollie 5 decks and 3 switch and nollie 2. I could 50/50 curbs and other low ledges but that was about it. I rode a shorty's deck and always had fury trucks cause I liked to be high up and have very little give to the bushings (white doh doh's I believe). Oh, and I rode a mini. I have no clue why, but I loved the little decks.

I can still ride quite well, but all I can really do is ollies. I'd kill myself if I tried to grind again.

I don't skate I'd suck at it a lot lol, but my younger brother [he's fifteen] has been skating since he was eight and he's gotten really good at it, I like to watch him cause he's good at it and he doesn't brag about it either. And he admits to his mistakes, like he just didn't get good overnight, two years ago he broke his thigh bone from skate boarding >_<

lets see

Element Fire 3 deck
Black Magic grip tape
Shorty's hardware, 2 silver screws in the nose end
Independant Stage 9 Trucks
Independant bearings, ABEC 5 I think
Destructo risers
Spitfire 53mm wheels

I haven't skated in a long while, maybe almost 10 months now. I used to be extremely into it, but now work just gets in the way, and I'm beat by the time I get out. Maybe I'll start feeling up for it though. I can ollie and do 3/4 of a kickflip. Haven't done any grinds yet, but I've tried it a few times, unsuccessfully.

Getting hurt is half the fun! I drank a bit more than I should have the other night and went skating. I hit the ground hard when I thought it would be a good idea to ollie while going super fast. Well, I wasn't ready for it. I hit the ground, flat on my back and ****ed something up in my leg. I'm sure it's just bruised or something.

Either way, it's caused me to limp the past few days.

And this is the problem with America today!!!!!

You can skate almost anywhere, thats the beauty of it. Any sidewalk, decent road or patch of asphalt is prime skating ground. You don't need a skatepark if you've never been on a board before, because it takes a lot of practice to do flatground tricks. Theres little to no chance of you getting on a board for the first time and tearing it up, unless you're the love child of Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen... and even then, you'd still need some practice. But seriously, go buy a board. You can get a shitty one for like 30 bucks at a sporting goods store. You'll tear it to shit soon enough, but its a good means of figuring out if you like it without blowing upwards to 100 bucks.

Another problem with America: Skating fines in any area that isn't private property (that is your's or someone you know) or a skate park. Even at skate parks, you can get fined a minimum of $100 if you don't wear a helmet and pads.

$75 fine for skating down the sidewalk or a parking lot. It's risky, but snatching up your board and running like hell through yards to avoid a ticket is fun. Breakin the law. Word.

*EDIT*

And don't buy a ****ing $30 board, either. Starting out or not, it's going to be a hell of alot different once you get on a nice skateboard. Especially in the bearings that you'd get in some cheap pre-assembled skateboard.

Just either assemble a board yourself (out of good brands) or buy a complete. If you don't like it, turn around, strip it and sell it. There are loads of people who would buy a good board or a set of wheels or trucks for a few bucks cheaper.

True dat.

30$ Walmart boards suck! The correctly shaped board makes it a lot easier to ollie and with name brand wheels your ride will feel so much smoother. My first board was exactly 126$ and I lasted a long time and took a lot of beatings. One time I tried to break it because I was so pissed that I couldn't land a kick flip, actaully I've tried to break it many times but this time I tried reeaaalllly hard. I beat the hell out of it with both sides of a hammer and threw it high in the air and chunked it at the ground. AND IT SURVIVED! Who knows maybe I'm just weak but I know a 30$ board would not take that kind of beating and leave in one piece.

And about those "not bikes, no rollerblades, no skate boards, no fun" signs. They are so bogus. Skating doesn't damage sidewalks or rails, it damages skaters when they fall. Really there are just a bunch of skater-haters out there. Maybe it's all those posers messing up our rep.
