Driving headaches

Well today for the first time I got to drive. I have my permit and my father sat on the passenger side and I drove around town essentially actually learning how to drive. I did well, I hit nothing and nobody in my time at it. In the middle of it though some guy in a truck behind me was tailgating me really close, which is rather annoying as if I'm not distracted enough by it being my first time behind the wheel. Finally he took a turn and sped off. It really isn't a big deal but for my first time it was upleasent to have happen.

My main question is do you have any driving horror stories, with you or with other people?

Middle of the night. 30 mile an hour limit country road. My friend decides to go down it at 70mph, and then all of a sudden we see this Chevron appear right infront of us. Of course, that means that a sharp turn is right ahead, and that the chevron is attatched to a wall, hence the turn. We would have gone right into it, but luckily there was a turn off to the right aswell. A very small road, mind, but my friend managed to stop in it okay. That was scary. But at the same time, for some reason, it was absolutely hilarious.

Is it a good thing that I found it funny? O_o

I was going with a bunch of my friends to some pizza place a bit away, and I had no idea where I was going. So I was following this one girl and we come to a traffic light. The light goes yellow, as it normally does, so she decides to speed up. I say, OK, I'll speed up, too. Then she suddenly decides she doesn't want to go through the light anymore and slams on her brakes. I slam on mine. I'm in a Chrysler. Really crappy brakes. I ended up rear ending her. She gets out of her car and starts flipping out.

People took my side.

Do they still count as horror stories if you laughed at them when they happened and even now? Regardless, I have a few. Not too bad, but they are kinda amusing.

My friend and I decided to do a spur of the moment road trip across Washington State. In the middle of winter. We had to drive over Stevens Pass, I think it was. And there was some pretty heavy snow in the mountains at the time. Essentially, the plan was to drive until we got to the desitination, talk to the girl we had planned on meeting(who didn't know we had made plans on meeting here there, see was on vacation with her family) and talk to her for ten minutes. Then turn around, head back, and plan for another day. On the way back, however, we saw a child off to the right and thought he was alone, because nobody else was around. We hit a U-Turn and then another U-Turn because we didn't see him again. On the second U-Turn a snowbank engulfed the hood of our car. Oops. We spent a good 45 minutes trying to get it out and then some guys pulled us out, lucky. Cell phones do not work in the mountains, we would have been screwed.

That leads up to the next day, when we decided to take another spur of the moment road trip. This time to Canada. We got about as far as the freeway onramp when the car decided it did not want to stop turning, and we did a 180 and ended up facing traffic. Luckily enough, we hit a sign and that kept us from rolling the car off the road.

Oh! Actually, there was something happened on the way there, during the first incident. We decided to see how quick we could get to our destination, which usually takes a good two hours. We figured that the best way to manage this was to go as fast as possible through icy, windy, turny, snowy roads. Bad idea? Yeah, probably. We hit about 90 and then a patch of black ice. We almost spun out and hit the side..whateveryoucallit. Luckily we didn't, otherwise I wouldn't be typing this right now.

Okay soo, There was this one time in a a neighboring city that I had gone to go shopping with a couple of friends and we were pretty much just lazing about the town. Well I was driving my Yukon and there are an unusually high level of Roundabouts in this city. I mean unusually high. Its that and the Roundabout art...scary place mind you.

So I go around this one round about and single handedly cause a five car accident...with me escaping to the right oblivious as to what happened behind me. Now it could've not been my fault but...well when I saw it on the news 5 minutes later...I was like...hmm, that was totally the VW bug that was behind me for so long.. and then things clicked..It was a rather blonde day for me. But hey what can you do.

Every day when I was at school in Boise there was a horrifying event...Why? Because Helen Keller is alive and living in Boise. Driving isn't my favorite thing anyway...but when people decide to be retarded around me, it just makes everything worse...

But I think I have the best story ever, and magically, it didn't happen in Boise...Imagine that...

I was driving home from C-valli on the freeway, and I was 3/4 of a mile from my exit to get on the other freeway (I was on three different ones that day) and there was a merge lane thing coming into my lane I was in the far right lane because my exit was in 3/4 of a mile...there was a huge semi truck in front of the car that was in front of me and a huge one behind me, and two cars that were merging in...They would have been perfectly fine had the first stupid car done what it was suppost to and gone between the car in front of me and the semi and then the other car would have gone in front of me. Yes, perfect. No, frist stupid car decides to STOP mid merge on the freeway where the speed is 70mph. which causes everyone behind them to slam on their brakes...I came INCHES from hitting the other merging car before stupid car A got into a different lane. I thought I was going to die, I even screamed. And then, as we were getting back to the speed of traffic, I smelled burned rubber from the semi behind me...I drive a Honda, it wouldn't have been realy pretty.

Let's see... one time I was driving with my dad, and we were crossing a bridge. I wanted to change lanes into the middle lane, but this woman was in the way. So I waited for her to pass me since there was a car in front of me. She passed, and I checked my blind spot. No one there, so I look back ahead and start to change lanes. In that second, I realized that the woman had slowed down and I would have hit her. But I was a new driver, so I hit my brakes while my wheels were turned and lost control of the car. So there we were swerving back and forth across a bridge over the Arkansas River. Luckily, either me or my dad hit the car into neutral. Eventually, the swerves got smaller and smaller, and we got control of the car. I'm really surprised we didn't hit anything. Made me want to go to church the next day.

Yes, and anyone out there can say I have road rage if they want to, but I have some particular driving issues that just drive me off the wall.

A. When someone believes that they must come to almost a complete stop on a 50 MPH road to complete a right turn.

B. The guy that drives so far up your tailpipe that you can make out the part number on your catalytic converter on his front bumper.

C. The idiot that sits at the stop sign at a cross-street waiting to make a right turn into your lane that watches you when you are 200 feet away and then finally turns when you are 30 feet away.

D. And lastly the guy that flows through heavy traffic 15 mph faster than everyone, changing lanes like he's in nascar, and cutting people off left and right. Hello some of these people have kids in their car, I have 3 and the last thing I need is you injuring them because you are too stupid to operate a motor vehicle responsibly. Getting to the red light 3 seconds faster really doesn't get you anywhere.

Yeah, I live in NYC, so pretty much anytime I take the car out, it's an adventure. I also have friends that blow things out of proportion, so if I change lanes and theres a car 15 feet away from me in the new lane, it was a death defying feat.

Anyways, I drive where there are foreigners... who don't know how to read english... especially the Koreans in Flushing, or shall I say Frushing. Stop signs mean little to nothing to them, as do red lights and double yellows. It usually entails for some harrowing experiences.

I suppose the worst/ funniest was when I was driving a bunch of my friends around, and we got into torrential downpour on the Grand Central. We were still going like 40-50 in 2 inches+ of rain, people fishtailing left and right... it was bad.

Later that day, some guy purposely cut me off, then slammed on his brakes, trying to get me into an accident. So I cut him off, and my friend threw a huge cup of soda at him, getting it all over his windshield, then I got off at an exit and hid lol

okay listen to this see how stupid some people are. You are going to need to visualize this picture so I hope you have visualizing skills. Okay I am driving on a feeder/access road and I come to a yeild sign and stop because some one is getting of the highway. Note: we are both going the same direction. The guy stops on the damn exit ramp and is YEILDING for ME. After about 10 seconds he gets the idea and starts moving off, BUT he as he gets on the access road he stays in the left lane where there is oncoming traffic! luckily there was no one comming his way and I'm drivning next to him trying to find out who the hell this dumb ass is. We come to a four way intersection and there are cars at all sides. I look around and see one of my friends to my right look at the guy and mouth "What the ****?" He turned left and fortunately nothing bad happened.

Also every once in a while, when I'm getting on the highway some people stop on the entrance ramp and look for when they can go. You don't do that, there is and extra 100 yards of road so you can merge into the right lane.

Also for any new drivers, there will be a lot of things that irritate you on the road like tailgating, you get used to these things and learn how to handle them in no time. I actaully tailgate some of the old people in my neighborhood becasue they drive under 20 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Actually I am a pretty dangerous driver, but only because I don't care about my car because it is a piece of junk. As of recently it broke and can now only get into second gear and going over 45 in it could kill the engine. My friends have dubed it the 45 mph speedster. I like to slide it around turns in my neighborhood, what people now call drifting. I like to take some of my friends on crazy rides. I only do this when there aren't other cars around though.
