Summons...

Hey, after playing FFIV for some time now, I have obtained a few Summons but ive realised how crap and pathetic they are, they dont help in the slightest in my opinion, in every other FF, Summons usually rule and do stupidly high damage but for some reason FFIV Summons suck!

What do you guys/gals think?

I think that is a good thing because super strong summons (*Cough* KotR *cough*) make battles too easy, compared to Final Fantasy IV's summons that helped during battles, but didn't over exert themselves.

Lol, the initial group of Summons you get with Rydia arent all that crash hot in any event (even against monsters weak vs specific elements) but those default guys aside..

Leviathan is a badass
Bahamut is everyones daddy
Slyph is a very nice Cure3 (4 at times) spread across the group

..and these few guys that were kind of left out of the "useful" pile.

Asura is too random with Protect/Life/Cure to be useful..
Odin is more random then Asura in terms of actually working.
Imp .... needs no explaination.
Flayer is actually quite good, just lacks a good proper punch.
Cockatrice falls into the random catagorey >_<

And surprisingly, the old Bomb summon is quite fantastic. Providing Rydia is at full health when you summon him, the way he works is -> Rydia HP = Total Damage Dealt and it doesnt kill Rydia.



Not as much variety compared to some other FF's but they were ok imo.

And the Mist dargon is good. It is like the Bomb abilty exept that it hits all targets based on her hp. After you finish her trail it casts blink! There is another kinda usless summon,The Choboco. The reason y it is kinda usful is becasue at the beging of the game it helps kill bad guys and bosses easy!

some summons suck in this game, but i like that u cant just win every battle like with certain games. IM LOOKING AT YOU FF7!!! but still, it had bahamut and leviathon. FF3's or 6's were way stronger and underrated compared to ff7. ff3 even had kotr.

As previous posts in this Thread say, the summons in Final Fantasy IV are meant to be helpful, but not going over the top.

Most summons were very good, such as Mist Dragon, Leviathan and Bahamut.

I also liked Sylph because they got some good damage in, while giving your party a good cure 3.

alot of summons really do help alot, when you get rydia back in your party, youl be fight alot of ground type animies, using shiva is very useful and titan is your strongest summon, which is a pretty decent summon for the time that you have it, then you can get bad asses leveiatan and asura(for massive healing!)once you get to the moon and get fusoya in your party, then you can get buhamut, the bad ass. but the thing i liked about ff4 summons was that they didnt make them too powerful. the thing about the old ff games was that there was no thinking in terms of puzzles and getting lost, but then you have make that up for some really really tough battles

And the Mist dragon and Bomb could be better than Bahmut depending on ur hp. They both can hurt monsters that have the hightest magical defence un like Bahmut. Ex. When u fight Bethmoths and use Bahmut it only takes away 3000-5000 and its supoosed 2 take away 7000-9999. If Ryida has 5000hp then the Bomb or Mist dragon will hit 5678 or so.

I think the mist dragon is a great summon that could help you if you are in a difficult situation.. but you need someone to summon it like rydia

They dont all suck on rly these ones r good
Bahamut=good for damage
Asura=good for healing
Odin=Good for training ez
So just dont say they all suck
