FFIV Plotholes..
Square screwed up with FF4....
Your probably wondering what the fudge I am talking about. Well, as I was playing the GBA version I noticed something about FF4 that took me a few.....how many ever years FF4 itself has been out to figure out. --------------------------------------------------- When you go into the dark elves cave, Cid or Tellah, or yang says that you have to unequip all metal items because of the Magnetic field in the cave. Now, if you do keep metal armor equipped, when you automatically enter a battle, you lose. It really doesn't make sense because if this magnetic field disallows you to fight, don't you think it would also disallow you to be able to walk? Think about it, it really doesn't quite make sense. ---------------------------------------------------- Also, I really don't understand the fact that these people die in the game during battle, yet you can just revive them easily. Yet Tellah dies casting Meteo (or Meteor) and nobody can do a damn thing about it. Whats the logic in that? ----------------------------------------------------- Then, in Damcyan, Anna dies, Edwards parents die. They said they were throwing arrows at them and they took the crystal.... But when the hell did that happen? All I remember seeing is 4 red wing airships flying over Damcyan and bombing the fudge out of it.. ----------------------------------------------------- Where is all the logic in this game? Somebody help me to understand this! |

Well, during battle, they don't die -- they get "knocked out," which is why they can be revived. It's the same basic principle with you-know-who in FFVII, as well. Characters only die outside of battle in storyline events.
As for the cave and Damcyan, well, who said everything had to make perfect sense? ^_^;;

You know what I don't get, how the iron in thier blood didn't get sucked out. I imagine that would be quite painfulz and gorey so I guess the makers had to leave that part out. TOO BADZ.

Okay here is the explanation. Its magic. You see when they walk in the cave Tellah starts chanting the "you can still walk with metal on even in a magnetic field" spell. He keeps chanting that spell until he gets suprised by a random battle at that point the chanting stops and they all die because tellah can't get it started again. You see it all makes sense. It's science.

And the spam in this thread is disgusting.
Please actually discuss the topic at hand rather than rambling on, okay?

Okay zu, for the sake of discussing the topic I will attempt to prove to zu that the characters did indeed have iron in thier blood. First of all I am assuming they are humans like us and that they have the same basic genetic make up and nutritional needs. They need iron to carry oxygen around the body, ensure a healthy immune system, and to make energy. Then again I could be entirely wrong, they are in a fantasy world where fantastic things happen. But here's a rational solution I came up with. The magnetic field is strong but not strong enough to make it to where the iron in thier blood would be sucked out or to where the characters couldn't pull their swords at a walking pace. That is why they can't fight with them because they can't swing them fast enough. I hope this clears everything up and isn't considered a rammble.

How about ... they don't really walk, they walk very slowly, or crawl, because the metal is weighing them down much more. It's like when you're carrying something very heavy -- sure, you can walk, but could you fight like that? Nope. Cecil could drag his sword by the handle through the caves, but could he pick it up and swing it? Nope.
People don't "die" in battle, as Loco pointed out. They get KO'd, or "Swoon". Tellah used up every last bit of his energy to cast Meteo just to defeat Golbez in battle -- basically, getting in a fight that you know will lose just because you also know you're going to hurt the other guy. As for Damcyan, the Redwing attack (I thought it was only three airships) symbolized an all-out invasion. It was their CAS (Close Air Support) while they were doing the MOUT (Military Operations on Urban Terrain) mission of clearing the castle, slaughtering everybody but the two folks by the pot of water from the recovery spring.

A hole in FF4's logic that hasn't been pointed out yet:
They visit the moon. There's no atmosphere on the moon. How do the keep from imploding? Also, they appear to be human, and humans have the crippling need to breathe. In the game, I never noticed an apparatus, tactic, ability, or magic the party used to survive in a vacuum. Of course, I assume that FF4's planetary satellites are similar to our real-world satellites and function similarly. -Edit- Also, wouldn't it just be hilarious if Kain accidentally escaped the moon's (lesser) gravity when he used his Jump ability on the moon?

Maybe thier moon does have an atomsphere and a strong gravationla pull for being only a small moon. But if it is like our moon then I can't think of any explanitions other than a mysterious magic being present.
That would be funny if Kain jumped off the moon. lol
