register FFXI ?

I played FFXI a long time ago and then cancelled my account. It's been well over 3 months and I wanted to sign-up again.
I installed FFXI and ran playonline but when I try to register a new playonline account it says that the registration code is invalid.
How do I setup my playonline account if my code from the back of the book is invalid?

ps. I've never giving out my registration code.

Uhm.. you weren't supposed to cancel your WHOLE playonline account. Only the contentIDs. The contentIDs are what costs you money. The playonline account itself is free to have.

So.. you're screwed. You have to buy a whole new FFXI. Oh, and this is in the wrong section, btw.

How Do I forum is for forum related questions only. Thanks. I'll move this to the FFXI forum.

Yeah, he's right though.

You were supposed to go through the PlayOnline menu and get to your ContentID, and then suspend that. Cancelling your entire PlayOnline account has rendered it entirely null and void. You'll have to get a new game, sorry. =/

No, because the expansions don't give you new PlayOnline accounts. Only the original game can give you a new POL ID.

The Vana'Diel Collection is FFXI + Rise of Zilart + Chains of Promathia and only costs usd$20. You may as well go ahead and purchase the new copy, because you'll need the POL ID activation from it. Sorry mate, but you'll have to spend a bit.

thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard, why would SE make you buy a whole new game after buying one already.
Can I contact SE and get them to reset the Reg. Code if I give them all my purchase info?

The PlayOnline FAQ says that you have 3 months to reactivate your account after a cancellation. After that you have to buy a new copy of the game.

In your booklet there's a phone number of Square-enix for stuff like this.
Just call them and see if they can do something to help you out.

Peace out

And actually, it's not really the 'stupidest thing i've ever heard', either. It's quite logical and normal, really.

I mean, if you buy a game.. and then say.. you cancel the account because you're bored with it or something.. then well, the serial becomes null, unless you re-activate within the certain amount of time. Think about it. It kinda prevents piracy in its own little way. o.O Kind of.

Though, all MMORPGs do this. It's been like this since the dawn of MMO'ing.

Actually, they don't. Ultima Online originally did it this way, but pretty much all other MMOs since EverQuest offer permanent accounts. The only thing you risk losing is characters (most only guarantee to keep your characters for up to 3 months, but keep them pretty much indefinitely anyway), but you can always re-subscribe without purchasing the game again.

There was another way to do it, but you waited too long. Every once in a while FFXI has a campaign to get old users back into the game. All you'd have to do is give them your Playonine ID and pass, and they could get it back for you (for a price). That was back in May I think.. or March? I don't remember. It was only limited time.

I don't figure it to be logical at all. If Square said something on the box that stated some of these facts on the box then I would consider it acceptable. However not stating that until you open the box and read the instructions is not acceptable at all. Because then you can't return it if you were not satisfied with the conditions. WOW doesn't do this type of thing does it? Although I bought the game and am well aware of these terms. I have a playonline account and bought it for the PC. If I took that same account then can I use that POL account from a PC and play the game on a friends Xbox 360 system?

The registration keys aren't platform-specific and all three systems are running the same PlayOnline software, so you should be able to log into the 360 version with your existing account.
