Intentions...
Was there some sort of intentions in changing the names of all the weapons, armors, spells, items, etc. in Final Fantasy 4 for SNES and Final Fantasy 4 for PS1?

Some things were not translated very well on the original SNES version. Also, some things seem to be changed to reflect familiar final fantasy weapon names. For example, the Crystal Sword was changed to the Ragnarok. The White lance was changed to the Holy Lance. These weapons appear in many other FF games.

Pretty much everything on the old SNES Final Fantasy II US was renamed into more english/child-safe to keep the general public happy. Back in the Japanese (original) FF4 the names were much different and there was no happy-chappy censoring - so the PS1 release did the same and mimic'd the old Japanese version for names and such, only this was in english.
Good thing they did too, heh.
