I had to vote no on this one.

I can't think of any possible way it would be entertaining with the exception of pitting your party against someone else's party. It would be pointless other than head-to-head battles. I can't think of any feasible what that people would actually work TOGETHER (a la FFXI) in a Tactics-type environment.

So, unless it was competitive, I don't think it would work.

...and even if it was competitive, I doubt it would sell.

Yeah, there's a lot of variations to how many teams you can have, but there isn't enough customization to give FFT good online play, EXCEPT Game modes! For example, I downloaded this one RPG game awhile back (forgot what it was called) and basically you would create a character and enter a server. It was real-life time based and basically you had to defend or attack the enemy base (FPS like). I don't think FFT would be fun with people having teams, but individually it may be rather cool. I'm talking about game modes and the like instead of running world to world, city to city, flying all over the place just to refine one item. RPGs with a game mode-like aspect (capture the flag for example).

They make something like that and I'll definitely buy it.

The concept is solid, but the feasibility is broken. I would love to have more FFT stuff, but there wouldn't be enough content, forcing it to fall back onto a gimmick. That gimmick, being able to fight one anothers' parties.

I think it would work only if they released a new FF tatics game with an online mode. Where you could fight other players. Thats about it though.

It wouldn't work cause what if you're fighting a noob? They would take a while to put their command in and you'll be waiting forever. But as Vicious said it would be good if you control one character and fight as team with other people. Otherwise it would be boring.

Well, FFT is basically a fantasy-themed board game, and we know that there are a lot of online board game sites that do well (*cough*chess). I don't know about the whole co-op aspect, but a competitive battle - my team vs. yours - would definitely have potential. You'd have to make a few changes though:

1) Either do away with levelling or else make it come at a price. You shouldn't be able to beat me just because you've been playing the game longer. I'd advocate just removing it entirely, but you could do it like in Etherlords where you have a set amount of resources to use to build your team, and levels (and JP and stuff) cost you resources just like weapons and items.

2) Seriously scale down healing. With a decent set of healers on each team, battles would last practically indefinitely. I'd say that Chemists should only be allowed to carry a very small set of items into battle (3 phoenix downs, 3 hi-potions, 1 x-potion, etc) and white magic should cost much more or be less accurate or weaker or something else to make it less appealing.

3) Balance the classes. I won't go into details about the balance issues in this game - I've done that elsewhere - but a party with Monks and Time Mages would own one with Squires and Oracles, and that's just not right.

There might need to be some other changes as well - more jobs/abilities, as the existing ones might get old with so many players - but these are the big ones.

...Um, you do have a FFXI online game, so no on the idea of making a FFT-flavored game. Though, maybe you could make the next FFT game/remake with the choice of pitting teams against teams, either online or with the DS wireless. Maybe gain some bonus weapons, or something. That, I believe, is a better choice for online FFT gaming: Tactics Ogre for the GBA had the very same concept, and I wish I knew somebody with another game, because the benefits were awesome. They have the TO team, so why not try it again? And please, not the link choices for FFT:A again. Except to steal and get extra items, the whole concept sucked.

I wouldn't mind I guess the guild system in tactics would be pretty cool. You know taking a job and partying up with members to earn experience and gold.

If it ever is to be,it will have to be with the standards on the new FFT games, but it's a good game & it would appeal to the players. It will be very dififcult & take a long time to win a battle though.

i dont think it would be a good online game such as guild wars WoW runescape and all the others because what if a character left is keyboard or somthing you would be left sitting there so turned based would not be such a good idea.

on the other hand it would be cool if like for other games such as killzone and arc the lad end of darkness when the game was a game of itself but you can also go online to vr. other people or just fight to get special things that are not available in the original game.

with the level up system and removing it i think that is a bad idea maybe jsut make the level up system waterd down a bit like still have 99 levels but instead a level 1 doing 20 dmamage and a level 99 doing 999 damage they can make it a little closer becuase you still need a reason to have to put some effort into the characters.

also it is possible to make a nearly unstopable team like a knight that can only get hit by 100% accurate person otherwize 0% chance of getting hit by magic and attacks. or a calculator with all magic and high speed making it possible to distroy a enimies team in a matter of turns.
having a group of mimes suround a guy for a total of 4000 damage in 1 attack. all these are examples of invulnerabillity. and jobs might need to be changed alittle.
