"He's Cute."
Now, I'm a dude. A man. A member of the male gender. I have a Y chromosone.
If I ever utter, "He's cute." I get accused of being gay. Which I'm not. Why is it that females can recognize physical beauties of another female without being accused of wanting to do her, but if a guy points out another and says he's handsome, he gets his ass beat? I mean, just because I can recognize another man's physical attractiveness doesn't mean I'm attracted to him. Yes, his appearance appeals to me, but not on a sexual level. He's just visually appealing. Much like certain design qualities appeals to the visual sense. Opinions? |

I think that people that cut others down, or accuse them of being gay, simply for commenting on whether or not a member of the same sex is physically attractive, are simply insecure about their own sexuality and/or life practices.
I see no issue at all. People are people. Drop the BS. Let's embrace humanity for what it truly is... No girl I have ever dated has ever batted an eye just because i said another male was "pretty". Probably because I choose to surround myself with intelligient, informed people. Just my take.

Honestly?
I think it's because women are more comfortable with their sexuality (on a whole) than men are. I mean, women judge/check out/look at other women all the time. We can say "oh, she's hot" and there's no social retrobution for it. None. At worst, a few guys might get turned on. (Typically speaking, of course) Now with men, there seems to be that stigma of Crap... but what if they think I'm gay?????. That is why (to me) men have a hard time saying if another guy is dressed will or not. I can't even begin to count how many times a guy friend has mentioned something and then quickly added "But I'm not gay or anything!!!" I dunno... I think guys just need to relax a little about being labelled a gay dude. That's just what I see in my personal experiences.

I'll be the first to comment on some good-lookin' guy who walks into a room. I, like the two of you (SAM, PA), find nothing wrong with that. Some guys are just attractive. It's not any different from the fact that some girls are attractive. I have some pretty friends. Most of them are female, sure, but there's a handful of guys who I hang out with on occasion who are rather attractive. Big deal, right? I mean, hey, good for them I say. Someone's gotta have the good looks.

Well, when I point out I think a guy looks good, I'm not doing it to compare. I just think he looks good! Shiny hair? Nice. Sharp dresser? Word, up, bro. Nice ass? I don't go there. No.
I'll name some men whom I think looks good. I think Richard Gere is a handsome man. Very respectable looking. Tom Cruise, as crazy as he is, besides his height, looks good to me. Orlando Bloom too. Good face. |

Hah.. creepy.. we just talked about this "gay-stigma" in my developmental psychology class a couple days ago.
People just feel that any remotely effiminine behavior that they see in a male is homosexuality. Commenting on how another guy looks is kinda like that. My thoughts? It's perfectly fine to comment on how good another guy looks. That doesn't automatically mean you want to DO the guy. Homophobia is pop-culture.

I have to agree, I comment on guys all the time, as in how they dress, looks, etc.. and I don't really give a shit as to wether someone thinks i am gay. It's a stereotypical view that society holds, like all male hairderessers are gay, things like that.
By the way I am not gay, but the point is if you apprecieate something, why not give credit where credit is due be it male or female?

To be honest, I think it has to do with the fact of men having so much respect for one another, and taking pride...maybe too seriously? So if one guy says another guy is hot, the others will break down his pride in order to bring themselves above him and make sure that nobody thinks they might agree? Or something? =\
I'm not really sure. Bleh. I don't check many females out. (Apart from Laurie Holden and Milla Jovovich of course ). I think it's hilrious when a guy thinks another guy is hot. I don't think it's gay. Usually if my best friend says somebody is hot, I -do- joke that he's gay, but only because he knows I'm kidding. Otherwie, I'll agree with him or not.I'm not sure what the big problem is. It's pretty stupid to put a guy down for voicing his feelings about things. Particularly about this sort of thing.

I think a man saying "he's cute" should be just as okay when a girl calls a man beautiful. Same thing. It all means that something is visually appealing. I think women an men could have a problem with it due to society, but other than that their really is no reason. It is just another word in the human language. MAyeb because on some level gay men may say cute more that staright men, but again that is putting a very slim generalization on a very huge set of people.

Oh, yeah, cheese is right. A guy calling another guy cute DOES sound gay.
Asheis brought up another point, "homophobia is pop-culture." What doi you guys think? Is homophobia instilled upon by pop culture? I always figured that recent pop-culture is more friendly toward gays. It seems like the new fad. "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy," for example. And on a similar note, more and more men are "metrosexuals." More and more men go to spas, get plastic surgery, and use "beauty products" like skin care products. Is this a new shift in the views of men? |

A lot of people (Males) recognise Beauty in Makes but dont want to say out loud as it is against their Gendar. It is a Complex Thing indeed and would never be sorted at all. It is the way of us Men. We dont want to be classified as Gay (i would never either since in not Gay). Edit: A Man calling a Man Cute is Gayish. |

just another strange way our culture is weird and paradoxical.. Homosexuals are getting increasing media coverage and acceptance, but we're all really still afraid of being labeled "gay". It's just strange.

You are afraid of looking gay because the thought of getting sodomized scares the **** out of you. I am a girl, and I would be terrified if someone tried to stick something in my ass. Not only that, is if someone calls you gay, you automatically think of how this will effect you dating. That is why men tend to stray away from it. If you think you are being gay, then chances are you think a girl will think you are gay. Thus not getting layed very often. Sorry for being so blunt
