Going through Kingdom Hearts 1

Now as some of you may know I have completed the FF's didn't really like Dragon Quest VIII but I wanted an RPG so I decided I'd get round to beating it. I have played it before, I got up to Tarzan land but thats was over a year ago, so I started playing it and didn't know what the hell I was doing so I started to start from the begining and work my way up. Anyway enough of my ranting. I normally go to Gamefaqs for help but there walkthroughs take forever to look through in just 1 simple question and I am reg here so anyhoo...

I read the other thread and found it took roughly 40 - 50 hours to complete, I normally drag on games these days so I'll probably get it in the 50+ anyway where is the best places to level up? Anything I should try not to miss? Anything important that can help me I should know? Currently I am leveling up with Tidus on Destiny Island, I am at level 5 and I was aiming for about level 15 and if I remember correctly thats how much my friend did (I was at 12 I think). I am probably not going to perfect it if that involves any tedious leveling up and/or annoying sidequests but I would like to have a pretty nice save by the end of it.

Try challenging Rikku. Don't worry at level five you should be ready. Post again when you get back to Tarzan.

The fastest exp on the Destiny Islands is Wakka, he might not seem like much with his 1 exp or something when you defeat him. But when you fight him, you are not looking to defeat him. If you played it enough you should by now have seen the Tech Exp pop up here and there. Even if you are defeated, you retain all of the Tech Exp you earn, which is exp on top of the defeat exp. Tech Exp is earn when ever you guard or block attacks as well parry and with Wakka he only has his ball to throw so I hope you like baseball because you are going to be aiming for homeruns with Wakka.

With him it can take some time to get used to the timing required to hit the ball back, but once you have it done he is like 30/45 exp every minute you do not defeat him. Make sure to keep your distance from him so that the ball you hit does not go and hit him, because you want to keep the fight going on as long as possible. Win or lose as long as you hit the exp you get exp more than Wakka when drop. All normal hits of the ball will get 1 exp, if you return his powered up attack it is 2 exp. Just remember it is a lot faster than the normal attacks. But I have lvled up to 22 before on simply Wakka, he is the best thing.

As for leveling spots, until you get to the end of the game, if you get to 15 like you are looking to do, and you fight all of the monsters you run across you will be perfectly fine not needing to level up at all throughout the game. You should hit somewhere about 55 when you reach the end of the game, and then you can decide if you need more exp or not.

The best early on place to level is the Gizmo Shop because it has a lot of monsters that spawn without having to go far, plus in the small area you are not chasing them down. After a while the Tournament becomes your best exp since you can replay certain rounds when you beat it on all modes.

Other important things are Guard, Guard will save your life a lot of times in the game.

That is about all the advice I can give at the moment, but I will answer whatever else you need.

I was leveling up with Tidus and got into a routine with him but I tried with Wakka and it worked quite well, I can't keep the fight going for too long as he keeps getting confused and I cant hit random throws all the time but yeah, I can hit back and have gotten to level 12, I don't have my contacts so I can't play for ages. And what is this about gaurd? Is it an ability or just a button? It's on a lot of games so I should get use to it quickly.

what i did was fight wakka until like lv 12 then i just left destiny after u leave destiny island thers no good trainin spot until the jungle because the monsters there arent to strong bu thtey give nice exp plus there is the ocassional sabor encounter which gives some nice exp.
then later on in the game ull start unlocking tournaments so start going to those to lv up each tournament has about 10 rounds in it except the hadse which has 50.
once u beat the game 2 more tournamesnts are unlocked were u can face either the ice titan or sephiroth every time u beat sephiroth u lv up no matter what cuz he gives so much exp so save up all your elixers for him and i mean all of them

on disney island the best way to level up is to challange wakka and stand quite far away and then hit his ball back you get one xp per hit (does iy very often) and then apart from that their are no secret places to level up just do it in the places you just unolocked last (the coloseum is always a good place to level up BTW). and guard must be equiped and it is a very quick move that deflects the emenys (duh and it not that good i think anyway).

I would go and fight Rikku alittle. Then after that just go and keep fighting is all I can say.

First things first. Regardless of difficulty, and what you pick ( shall make sense when you reach it, if you have it already does). Level 12 IS overpowered, up until Tarzan's world you shall massacare everything. Even then the boss may still be too easy there.

However if you still seek to level up then Wakka is indeed the easiest way. with others already describing the methods. From there you wont encounter difficulty until maybe Tarzan's world. However I guarantee upon reaching Atlantica the boss will be difficult.

As others have said Guard is an invaluable technique, but DO NOT smash it this will not help you. It recquires careful timing to master and can be frustrating, but when mastered it is invaluable. Most things you can't block are obvious Like Giant laser beams. Also Never overlook dodge roll, it may be a beginning move but later on it saved my life more than once.

Follow this and techniques the others have described and you'll be fine.

Fight Riku alot! Hes fun to. Also when you get to the part where you can fight all three of them is a good thing to do also. Mainly I faught Riku and that did me perfect.

Once you're out of the Destiny Islands and reach the Coliseum, the cups are great ways to level up.

Anytime I was having difficulty in another area of the game, I'd return to Olympus and go through one of the Cups again, and you level up like crazy. It sucks in KH2 that they don't allow you to get experience from participating in the cups.

dont spend too much time on destiny islands. have a basic level up and when you get to higher levels then spend more time in leveling.. Traverse Town is a good place to level after you find your party members...

Highly recommended, mainly fight riku and three on one battles, when your about to leave the island with the keyblade, keep fighting the heartless.

Like Andro said, the Island is a good place to level up, I got to level 14, now at 16 in Wonderland, dunno what I am meant to do but I gave them the 4 peices of evidence and fought the cards and she disapeared, I may have another look later but meh. I think why I was stuck with my other game was because I was meant to go back to Traverse town, but I wasnt sure on what I had and I am happy starting again.
