Random Theory

oday in Pyschology we were having a random discussion about Darwin and evlution with the teacher and how we all came from african/black people, but as humans migrated north we needed lighter skin to take in more of the sun to create vitamin D, she came up with a very good/clever theory

first of all she told us that in 2005, 20% of the children who were born in Britain were of mixed race. She said at first she thought it was simply the fact that our society was becoming less prejudice (probably the wrong word) but lets say the walls were crumbling and she thought that people were seing themselves as different to others less and less

then she said when she thought on it a while, that that may be true but then she thought that global warming may play a part. That prehaps becuase the world is and has been slowly heating up for many years now, that something has ticked inside the human body and now we (white) are trying to mate with darker skinned people in order to be more resistant to the heat.
she is not saying that we are running around saying ive got to find myself a nice black man/woman to surive, just that there is the spark of evolution/adaptation in UK genes.

just wandering f anybody has any opinions on this and if anybody has any similar staticstics from other countries which could support this

You know, that's not a bad theory, actually. The idea that we are subconsciously choosing mates of other ethnicities based on the idea of natural evolution is a pretty good thought to mull over. I certainly think it is possible that we, as a human race, are looking to strengthen our various ethnicities by mixing our blood with that of other, more diverse cultures.

While some people may be doing it consciously, I think your teacher's assumption that it's a subconscious thought process may not be far off from the truth.

Its perfectly possible and I think evolutions like this happen all the time.
Theyre often just so minimal that we dont notice any difference in behaviour, we still have a personal opinion in "mating", we dont just do what our body tells us to do.

I actually think it went backwards.

I believe in the "Tower of Babel" theory.
The way I think of it is, when people tried to build a tower to reach Heaven, God caused people to speak entirely different languages and scattered all over the world.

I believe that to protect their skin from UV rays, the people that went to Africa had their skin adapt to the sun for protection.
Well, obviously they didn`t MAKE their skin adapt, I think it just happened as Americans are white.

Anyway, as for the whole evolution thing, it woudl make sense seeing as that's the way it works generally, people choose partners subconciously based on their pheromones, which reveal how dissilmilar a person's immunity is to your own, and thereby giving your offspring a great diversity in immunities and parasite resistances.

It standes to reason that people from different ethnic groups would be more immunologically diverse than people from the same ethnic group.

There is much archeological evidence supporting the move of the human species from Africa to what is now the Middle East, and beyond. Not only that, but white skin is a proven MUTATION! We didn't crisp gently in the sun and start out white. Our skin got whiter as we moved to more northerly latitudes. Our bodies weren't getting enough vitamin D and thus had to mutate (evolve adaptively) to allow for more vitamin D to reach us when there is less sun. Lets please not have you take over this thread and make it a Christianity thread.

As for the OP, it seems unlikely (though certainly possible) that we'd subconsciously choose a black mate because of a warming global temperature. Although, it's certainly possible that white people who choose black people as mates are more likely to have children with more resistance to skin disease, and thus have their genes passed on.

Um, no I never said whites were the first ethnicity of humans. I just think that people with White skin are less protected in the sun seeing how we live in a less sunny continent than Africa. Can`t say the same for Austrailians.

Oh, and BTW you are wrong once again unless you are refering to the numerous 9 foot tall skeletons that were estimated to live 900 years and were believed to have lived far before the Flood. Those were not located in Africa.

Oh shit, here goes the evolution vs. creation arguement again, so before it gets anymore heated I will say this to everyone here. It is a stated fact BOTH evolution and creationism are THEORIES, nothing more. And what are theories? Waiting to be proven. The only difference is faith in both theories itself, but faith does not prove anything. I've already stated my opinions about evolution also, I will not repeat myself so I shall give a fair warning--anyone who claims either theory is true is going to get a whack over the head. So please, keep this on a intelligent level and do not ASSUME something is right because you saw it on the Discovery channel or TBN.

As for this "theory", I've heard it many times before. It would explain a lot. Fact is, even if a white man got a REALLY burnt tan he wouldn't become black. Skin tone is genetic, the sun cannot change it's color. And I mean that literally, it can "tan", but nothing more. It's like saying I got a really nice bronze tan and went to Italy to prove I'm Italian, but that would be a lie.

Not to mention our bodies have trillions of genes that could've deteremined what genetics we have. There is also the adaptation idea. What it is, really, it just micro-evolution. Small changes to fit their enviroments. But, as I said you can change your body however you want, but your blood and genetics are a whole different story. Course I'm not saying it's not possible, no one knows how the world came to be and how there came to be many races, but with any scientific knowledge we have gives this theory a thumbs down.
