Dan Brown: One Hit Wonder or Half Decent Author
The Da Vinci code allthough completely ludicrous was a pretty good read.
But his other books, Angels & Demons for example, where a bit of a let down - for me anyway. What does everyone else think?

I don't really enjoy the Harry Potter books on the whole but the little bits I do enjoy are the lessons and tit bits like that but the films always take them out. I know its because of time but it destroys the feel of the story.

I've only read 'The Da Vinci Code' but I thought it was a great book. There aren't many authors in this world that can keep my attention for more than 200 pages, much less 400+. One of my good friends also read 'Angels and Demons' and he said it was just as good. I am going to borrow it from him and try to read the whole thing this weekend.

The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons are so similar, it's like he wrote them based on some kind of simple formula. You read one, you've read the other.

The problem with Angels and Demons is a) really simalar to the Da Vinci Code and b) he escapes death narrowly about 5 times. It's just too unreal

I think he's alright.
I read the DaVinci Code and I thought it was a good read. I've read better, though. I might go and see the movie, although I'm not greatly interested. I might just see Silent Hill again instead, haha. Yeah, he's a good author, but not the best.

I think what you guys are referring to is that he ALWAYS without exception, includes a giant plot twist at the end, or close to the end.
I've read deception point, angels and demons, and the da vinci code. All have unpredictable giant plot twists but have entirely different stories.. It's more a coincidence that Angels and Demons has a religious overtone, and so does The Da Vinci code. Plus, he's the king of hooking books.. I don't think i've ever had a tougher time putting a book down (with one or two exceptions.. heh) than when I was reading his stuff.

Gee... Two books in the same series written by the same author with the Catholic Church playng a significant role in both books and it's only a coincidence that both books has religious overtones?

I coulda sworn that Angels & Demons was like a prequel/sequel to The Da Vinci Code? That's what I heard... and I work at Barnes & Noble. >.>;

He's half decent. The only problem I have with him is all of his books start off with a weird murder, and end with a huge plot twist. Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code were good, though everything else, is really the same type of book. Pick up any of his books, they all start with a murder. It gets repetitive.

Hmm
First off I have read Deception Point, Angels and Demons an The Da Vinci Code. In that order. I loved Deception ponit and read it in a day. Then I read the otheres because of all the fuss and was extremely disappointed. It felt like copies with little adjustments of the SAME book. I read quite a bit and have to say I have read plenty more books better than the Da Vinci Code. Its only popular because of the controversial content and because the media has gave it a reputation. Thas my opinion anyway. Dan Brown can write a good twist but I think he got lucky with one good novel. Perhaps if he changed his genre or maybe the PLOTa little he could be a lot better. But in the end it doesnt matter anyway coz hes a damn millionarie and we are not ")
