why do cloud and sephiroth have wings in kingdom hearts

Sephiroth - One Winged Angel, as manifested at the end of FFVII as well as in FFVII Advent Children

Cloud - Possibley a rip on Sephiroth being a 'One Winged Angel' he appears as a 'One Winged Demon'. this may also be a reference to him dressing like Vincent, in which case the Wing becomes that of 'Chaos' and may be a side effect of JENOVA's cells changing Clouds appearance to be more like Sephiroth who he SHOULD be cloned after (only Cloud is a failed clone).

One Winged - Is a reference to a 'fallen' angel. An angel with but one wing cannot fly (they both fly, yes, but i'm speaking figuratively), and thus the reason for the verse in the song 'one winged of the lower reaches' i.e. angel of Hell. It is possible that Cloud being a one winged demon is to carry similar as a 'fallen demon', or someone that should've been an evil doer (Sephiroth Clone) but wasn't and has thus 'fallen' in the graces of evil.

Either way I thought giving Cloud a wing was both cool and stupid at the same time. Lovely touch...but really, why?

What you said sounds pretty cool but there probably isn't no rime or reason for the wings. Mabey something to do with a fallen angel I don't know.

...what you think doesn;t matter, because I'm telling you why they SAID they did it...for Sephiroth at least.

I admit Cloud having a demonic wing and the significance there of is largely conjecture, but theirs already facts regarding why Sephiroth is the One Winged Angel that he is.

I think they just gave them wing's because they wanted them to be coolee looking,I mean Cloud look at how sweet he looked with that one wing I doubt there is any signifecence to why he has it,as for Sephiroth mabey I could see your explaination but Cloud's it was just for looks.
