Advent Children (Major spoilers) Its driving me mad!!!
Ok this may seem like a dumb question.
DONT READ IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE On the english version on advent children when Yazoo and Loz are trying to tear down the meteor monument, the turks show up. And the bad guys ask where mother is, the Turks reply, and then Yazoo I think says in the subtitle "As if anyone would trust you?" But when he speaks its different. I have no idea what he says, maybe m deaf or he didnt speak clearly, I dont know. Id appreciate if somone would tell me. And btw it annoyed me how there was a differnce between the subtitles and what was spoken. I hope you guys understand what I mean.

Spoiler ahead. And yeah I know exactly what you mean. My favorite line in the subtitled version was when Kadaj is talking to Cloud before he becomes Sephiroth and he's telling Cloud about it and Cloud says "So the body of thoughts doesn't know anything at all." And in the English version all he says is something like "A lowly remnant wouldn't know." Made me angerfied.

Yeah some of the translation is a little off. I was watching the clips where it shows FF VII rememberance. It shows the Japanese version and reading the words I see the difference in the English translation and the Japanese text. Like they translated the word "Masaka" as the word No. But I think they should've translated it to a stronger word. More along the lines of something like No way.
Also in Advent Children when cloud and the little girl is trying to make a phone call. She then goes to Vincent and I think they translated it as you don't have a phone but I think it would've been better if they translated as I can't believe this. Something along those lines. Also when Vincent comes to that creature they translate as Where can I buy a phone. I don't remember hearing the word buy in the Japanese version. I guess it could be implied that he wants to buy a phone. But I think it would've been better just to say where is a phone. The translation is a little off at times and gets me to wonder who comes up with some of these words. Although some of it can be very hard. Like they translated e, eeto as "wait I know this." I don't like that translation at all. If anything it is one of those things like uh. It isn't an easy translation. I would've rather they translated it as hmmmm or something along that line. |

But "Wait, i know this!" is funnier. I can't imagine cloud saying THAT! Aslo, in the subtitles, barret curses the good ol' FFVII way at times, but NOT IN THE SPEECH!!!! now, does anyone share the same astonishment at Omnislash V. 5? but anyway, Red XIII had ONE line in the movie. ONe. "There is still children with the stigma". Doesn't our hound deserve a little more respect?

We all live in a complex web of life, and affect it in our own ways. When we throw our stone into the water, how big will the ripples be? The reason why they dont say exactly the same thing in the different versions is that they have to get the words fitting to the mouth motions. Some ofthe lines in Japanese are a lot longer or shorter asthe samethingin the English language, so they have to modify them to fit in better.
Also about Nanaki (Red XIII), they only gave him one line because apparently trying to get his talking motions right was a lot harder than doing that with the human characters. I do know what you mean though, as in the game Red is the most intelligant of the whole lot of characters.

The movie was amazing, and yes, it was wierd watching it in diffrent languages... Um, and what the man said, Yazoo I beleive? I think it was
"Oh, so I geuss the Aeons aren't to be trusted?" What he means in saying that I geuss, was summoning Buhamut WOULD show where 'mother' is, and the Turks didn't think so? I dunno... That's what I looked at it as... |

He says Peons, not Aeons. Aeons are exclusive to FFX aren't they? Why would he mention them in the Final Fantasy VII world? He's saying to Reno and Rude that ShinRa must not trust their underlings with that much information, which is why Reno and Rude get all pissed off. You're about the third person I've seen who has gotten that line wrong. Call me a fanatic but I didn't think it was that hard to pick up on.

Ohh yes. The subtitles were definately off but that's why I just watched it in english without the subtitles. I watched it once in japanese too, but I would rather pay attention to whats going on than to just go and read the subtitles. Ok, so my comprehension skills are a bit off, but... who cares.
Anyway, Yazoo says, and I quote, "What? The peons aren't trusted?" And that's the exact quote. Believe me... I've watched this movie way too many times. >.>.... so I can basically quote the entire movie, but anyhow... yeah. Oh and another thing that kinda made me mad... Barrett cussed less than Denzel! What the heck is up with that? Oh well... I still think it was a decent movie. XD Oh... and... I wouldn't say it was the worst dub ever. I think they did a good job from transferring it from a completely different language that is conjured up of completely different lip movements to English. |
