Lack of "Holy" Elemental Magic

Well this topic would apply to both Wind and Water Elements as well, I guess.

The only way to attribute Holy, Wind or Water elemental power to your weapon or armour was to join the Elemental Support Materia with the appropriate Summon Materia.

I can understand why there were no standard Magic Materia with Water or Wind magic, but I didn't see why they decided not to attribute Holy elemental status to the Cure series of spells, considering that Cure magics harm the Undead only, the same way that Holy magic is good at.

Cure in later games of Final Fantasy seem to also have the properties of the Dia spell from FFI - which was a purely "holy" spell.

It just would have been a nice touch, is all.

There's a Wind elemental Summon? I thought Typhoon did an assortment of elemental attacks...

As to Cure not being Holy Elemental I really don't see why it need be. It still kills zombiefied creatures...or I suppose renderes them 'true' dead as it were. I think the main reason is that the 'Holy Materia' in that game like the 'Meteor Materia' are one offs. There can be materia with similar elemental alignment, but not exactly the same.

*shrug* thats probably the real reason on that at the end of the day.

As for water and Wind, both those elements were played down in other FF's as well. You don;t get Tornado until late in the game in FFVI and I'm not sure you ever get a straight water spell outside of enemy skills...

Choco/Mog is a Wind Elemental Summon.

Alexander is a Holy Element Summon, you can link it to your weapon to do double damage to undead creatures.

yea there was a lack of it that was actualy playable but it doesnt meen it wasnt there. in other FF games you get to use holy as the ultimate holy magic and useualy something like domesday to be the ultimate dark magic but in FF they changed it where the sephiroth had the ultimate dark magic and was stoping them from useing holy. if you could use it then why would you have to fight sephiroth to destroy metior when you could just cast it.

Now I forgot about that...it was called Choco/Mog's move was called 'Deathblow' wasn't it?
Having said which, I'm not sure of there being that many monsters with a weakness to Holy or Wind. Even the Jenova parts don't seem to have an overt weakness to Holy flavored magics. Is there a boss who's only weakness is Wind?

hmm...I know Rapps used the spell Aero 3 on me and I was just like 'I want'...but no wind materia. How sad.

Sorry, I'm not beig very clear am I?

I don't mean any Materia with the Holy spell, but spells that should have had Holy status attributed to them, such as the Alexander Summon has.

In some previous games I'm pretty sure the Cure type spells had Holy elemental status and I think all "Undead" monsters (such as those in Cosmo Canyon) are all weak against Holy elemental status spells. They also take damage from Cure spells too, which is why I think the Cure Materia should have been given Holy elemental status so that if you could equip it in your weapon with the Elemental Materia you would have been able to cause double damage to Undead monsters with your weapon, at the expense of being able to cast Cure on All your party at once.

well the only thing with that is if you did like any other time if you linked a cure spell to the wepon it would become a wepon of healing instead of destruction. although it would be good to have the slash all materia with it so tht you could heal all of your party members but it wouldnt be verry effective against anyone other then undead in battle.

I think he means something along the lines of "Banish". Not necessarily a "Holy" spell, because...

Isn't the Holy materia what fell off the platform after Sephiroth killed Aeris? I'm pretty sure it is.



Even if there was a spell with Holy attributed to it, binding it to a weapon would only work in a handful of situations seeing as how the majority of the monsters in the game aren't "Undead".

Huh? No it doesn't...

If you attach Alexander to your weapon with the Elemental Materia it doens't suddenly start curing every monster you attack!

Remember: Alexander IS a Holy Element Materia.

Cure doesn't have a Holy Element to it in any other FF game I've ever played. Not 8, 9, 10, or 6. I know that Regen acts as poison, life as death, and cure is lethal, but thats more along the general idea that undeath is a status ailment. In other FF games your own characters can be rendered undead and suddenly healing items no longer work...it adds challenge to the game.

The only place curative magic has ever had anything like a 'holy' distinction was the first FF when all the magics were lumped into the two catagories of 'white' and 'black'...well, and of course later games where there were also those distinctions (such as Tactics and FFX). Never been called strictly 'Holy' though...only 'Holy' is ever 'Holy'...or Alexander or 'Pearl' as its sometiems badly translated as.

Starlet isn't a Holy Esper...she just heals you.

Given what you're saying, poti0ons and phonix downs might as well be considered holy items.

Why isn't Phoneix considered a 'Holy' creature? With the power of life and of fire it could screw the undead twice over.

The distinction is a useless one.

That would have been Rapps, when saving Yuffie and Elena from Don Corneo at Wutai.

Yuffie stole your Materia so you couldn't use it for that battle, very annoying.

Although on one occasion I did still have a couple of Materia with me after Yuffie stole the rest, I've no idea how that happened and haven't been able to repeat it since.
