A visual society stigma
Well this is question I have been juggling around and I have found it an interesting thought of what ifs. This many boils down to what would our society be like if something was different. What is that difference?
Well I watched Loveless not to long ago, and while I do not really understand it, I did a little reading about it. If what they said is true, then it is a very interesting idea that I would like to see more about. But enough beating around the bush, what if humans had a visual sign for their virginity. In the idea that it was a physical part of them, in Loveless if I am correct, humans have cat ears and a tail until they lose their virginity. If I am incorrect in this I apologize, but the idea is intriguing none the less. Whatever everyone was born with some physical member part of their body that fell away after they lost their virginity. One could imagine how society would be different. You might even think of a society like the Scarlet Letter, where you are shunned and assualted for having done something taboo. And for the unfortunate ones, women do receive some physical sign, its would be pregenant, though that is something that happens in time. This would be an instant change or nearly instant. Do you think society and people would be different, sneaking in that girl or boy to your room. Or running off to some hill in your car. And sneaking back home only to know that your parents will know what happened. Do you think that there would be less teen births? Would the underage sex rate be lower? Would kids think twice about doing something that they cannot get away with? And what about all those 20/30 year old virgins that are out there. Would it become a sign of mocking? Would it drive people mad and insane, become introverts, become ashamed. Would it drive them to do something that they would regret? Would peer pressure cause them to go lose it just to not be mocked anymore? It does raise some interesting questions, and I find it a fascinating subject for a story analysis. Imagine how something so simple could change society. On a less serious note, if we all did cat ears, I probably would not want to give them up. =^_^= Hehe But I would still have them anyway currently. Your thoughts?

Holy hell if I had a tail I'd never have had sex EVAR. I feel I'm missing something in life, without a tail.
Well, I know here in the ol' flatlands, way-off eastern women come over to have their hymens replaced. You know, because they want to get married virgins. Yeah...retarded in so many ways...but I mostly wonder how the heck someone's supposed to tell that thing ain't intact. Aside from our asinine country giving free operations to people who don't even live here. I don't think the ears and tail thing would change much. There'd be a whole upcoming of ear and tail replacement operations. Point, I don't think it'd change much from today. In other news, I'm waiting for news of the first animal human symbiote. I want halfbreeds. And animal body part tranplants. By golly I want tail of tiger, eye of hawk, teeth of shark.

But yeah, I do think things would be differant because obviously not everybody could afford to get them surgically put back on. And it will change the way you see people in a general way, for example at school half the people there would have ears and tails and the other half wouldn't, which would lead to a lot of differant results. Like if there was a shy guy or something, normally he would just go living his life and people wouldn't know that, but if a girl sees he is a virgin and thinks hes cute, she'd approach him. Plus you could see all the bullshitters. But yeah it would mostly be used to uncover the truth, if you saw a 5 year old girl without them you would know for a fact something happened to her. Plus if there was a 40 year old virgins people would see they need help. In my old cooking class a lot of people said that my teacher was a Virgin and she was like 50+. It will change the way we see people if it was true. edit: do you mean something like this ? Last edited by Angantyr; 04-25-2006 at 07:03 AM. |

Gosh... that's tough. I haven't seen Loveless though.
I think that kind of stigma will definitely help with teen pregnanacies/ early teen sex etc. But I'm just thinking about those people you mentioned like the teens that will be ridiculed for receiving the stigma and 30-40yr-old virgins that are ridiculed for not receiving it. Not that I belong to any of those categories... But I just feel for them. ![]() Anyways, at post-teen ages 20-30, this kind of stigma will probably also encourage more sex between virgins, or just anyone. Virgins would not want to be left behind with this body part and take any open opportunity to have sex with someone (probably without thinking it through.) Plus what about rape victims at an early age, who do not even deserve the stigma? I dunno. I see good AND bad sides to this, but I wouldn't have them.
