How long will Final Fantasy XI survive?

How long will they keep this game online? I haven't played this game yet. I got to go out and get this game sometime soon. Also is this game beatable? Does it have a ending or does it keep going and going?

There are multiple endings for each nationality, as well as an accumulating number of boss battles. With each expansion, they add more and more to the end of the game, giving the users more to play for.

There are three major (playable) nationalities: San d'Orian, Bastokan, and Windurstian. You can change your country allegiance at any time, provided you are not in the middle of a mission, and can thusly see the storylines of all three nations. National storylines aside, there are literally hundreds of quests, many of which pan out into their own smaller storylines. There is ALWAYS something to do in this game, so even though there may be a few endings, there's very little to keep you from learning new things.

As for how long they keep the game online, I have no idea. It will probably stay on for at least another five years. If the fanbase finally dwindles off and the servers run dry, then they may shut it down as it would be too expensive to maintain. For now? I honestly can't even see that happening within the next decade.

As to what I believe about this possibilty... slim indeed.

There will always be a new generation that gets involved with the Final Fantasy Series... Although they might not be able to start from the begining like most of us have had the pleasure of... they will soon feel the urges for an online Final Fantasy. Since they built it... they will come. O_o

So as for it lasting... A very long time. ^_^

Well people still play Everquest, and there will always been FF fans. So while they may eventually stop making updates and supporting the game on a full time basis. I doubt the game will completely end, there will probably still be like 50,000 people playing it ten years from now. Unless SE just shuts it down in favor of a new FF MMO. Because that is about the only thing I really see halting FFXI, is a replacement FF MMO. And there will be eventually. The PS3 is going to be on par with the 360 and PC or better depending on the case. So they should not have to worry about memory issues.

Now I just need to get the game. Good thing it will be around for awhile. Cause I've never played it yet. Ok thinking about either PC or XBOX 360. Which one should I get?

That's merely a matter of personal opinion. If you get the X360 version, you will not be able to play with any of us because it has its own separate server. If you get the PC version, we can get you a worldpass.

ZRO takes classes from Quistis - (lv 2)
Actually Loco's not quite correct there anymore. It used to be on it's own seperate server when they were going through the beta of it, but now that the 360 version is up and standing they're mixed in with our normal servers, so it really does come down to personal opinion. ^^;

This will be played fo 10+ years still.
The Japanese have played it for over 4 years now and are still enjoying it. I've played it for over 2 years and still addicted as hell, lol.
There's too much stuff I still want to do/accomplish.
So I will keep on playing till they unplug it, which won't be anytime soon.

Peace out

Please add more content to your posts. Just spamming a couple words in a thread does not help out the thread.

And as for the longevity of the game, I am pretty sure that the X 360 picked up a few thousand new members. They are mostly just PS2 owners switching I think though. And with the introduction of the 360 FFXI version they will not be stopping any time soon.

I just upgraded my internet connect to 3.5mbps so I may get it soon, unfortunatly my upload is still only 128kbps, would that be fast enought?

Anyway I think it will last for a long time, I suspect it will still be around for at least another 10 years, and by then it should be easier to run and hopefully free. As they said new fans will come along, people like me who can't play it cause of some issues will start to play it and so it will continue to keep going. How many players do they have no? 50k ? I am sure that will continue to rise.

As to how many people play... Well over a million. I don't think it's over 2 million though. And that estimate is after they take into consideration that 'everyone' has a mule or two or three, or more. They go by Active Content IDs, so... that number is your best estiamte and the ammount of time you have before it's nuked is like I sayed before... Slim.

Question on resolution. I realize that the Xbox 360 version is in HDTV. How do the graphics compare to the computer? Similar-Better-not as good. I'm really leaning towards getting the Xbox 360 version. Although I might also get a copy for my computer. However I just don't like doing long marathons on my computer. I don't feel that great after a long all day on my computer. Maybe cause I'm too close to the screen.

Also someone said would 3.5 Dl with 128k up would it work. I think you'll be just fine. I've seen games played on that type of connection with heavy graphics and no promblem. So as long as your computer video card and processor is good.

Does anyone know if they are going to release all expansion packs in a computer version? Kinda like the DVD version but including the new one that just got released in one convinent package. Or do you think my best bet is get the DVD and buy the new one.
