FF VI Hatred

I bought this game, but was moderately confused when I was instore buying it, because it came out after FF7!? Then the graphics where even worse? That really boggled my mind, I was all "if there gonna release it after they should at least have better graphics!" There where only three FMV's in the entire game which I was quite peeved about, I thought it was so lame, I just couldn't finish it, but I wanted to make a move and just extracted three long FMV's :s I didn't like the 2day pixel graphics and I didn't like when you where on a chocobo you where riding on a flat surface including edgars castle etc. overall this game deserved a 4/10 Nil pwoi (No points for the graphic quality) and the 4 is for the plot.

When I saw the opening FMV it looked promising, awsome graphics, then the game started. and I was like, what happened? I did quite like magitek armour but when you one a battle it was like an ff7 chocobo race. Sorry, I needed to constructivly rant.

...wow.

Okay, FFVI was not released after FFVII.

It made its PSX RE-RELEASE after FFVII, sure, but the game was released on the SNES way back in 1994. There's a reason everything is two-dimensional.

Yea... it DID come out before FF7.

You've made me quite sad :/
FF6 (called FF3 on SuperNES) is my favourite final fantasy
of all time!
Give it a chance!

That was my initial reaction, but I fear this thread will only turn into a bunch of people screaming at Livana for her opinion, albeit a misinformed one.

NOTE: I said the opinion was misinformed, not wrong. Huge difference.

When FFIV, FFV, and FFVI were re-released on the PSX, cutscenes were added to give them the flavor of "new." Otherwise, the games are mostly the exact same as their SNES counterparts, except with load times from being on the PSX.

I wouldn't mind if she didn't like the game for it's storyline or it's gameplay or something like that. But when she hates it so much just because of the graphics...

Not here, not near me it didn't anyways, otherwise I think I would have bought it, but then again, I would have only been 3/4 at that time, so therefore I would'nt know, but they could have easily made it better. I don't hate it so much for the graphics, I didn't really like the plot either just I am quite critical at Graphics, especially the fact when I tried to make an RPG myself, and It worked then my damn brother delted the file and I've never been able to do it again since. Well I didn't even get to finish it. Okay now thats going off topic slightly...
I didn't mind the plot, but it confused the hell outta me, and i'm not fond off stuff that confuses me considering what mood i'm in. I hated the battles, absolutely hated them, I think the only thing I didn't mind like I said the magitek armor and the split scene bit after you fall off the raft. =/ Also the fact i'm quite in a bad mood dosen't help so I thoughtI'd express myself on a game

In Europe eh? Seems likely.. VI never DID make its SNES release over there (may not have managed it in Australia for that, wouldn't know to be honest), at least not in the UK. Even in America is got slapped with the III thing to try and cover Squares previous poor excuse for a release schedule overseas. Fun... =P

However.. The battle system is quite similar to FFVII, the only real differences being the way in which key skills are gained and, well, graphical quality I guess? So I'm not quite sure were you're coming from with that..
Also, it dosent have that complex of a plot. Its true its a little 'ftw' to begin with but then so is VII. Actually a LOT of RPG's go for the 'what the heck is happening here' factor, usually as a way to suck the player in and introduce them to the world and general plot.

Thats what I mean, I didn't like the way skills where gained, and EP sucked. I liked FF8's best, and I wasnt that fond of FF7's materia or battle system. FF8 had to be my fave, I didnt like ff9's battle system either.

I'm with Loco on this one. It's misinformed more than anything, plus aside from the nice touches here and there, I found the PSX release pretty unplayable (load times, slowdown and bad sound quality) I don't blame you for hating the game because of a crappy (IMO) port.

It's like I'd recommend the Last Blade games to anyone, but the PS2 port is SOOO poorly emulated it could give the wrong impression on how great the games really are.

And going off on my SNK tangent here. Yeah the graphics DO seem like a step down at first, but I think they grow on you after a while.

Personally, I would rather have the great 2D graphics of FFVI than the terrible 3D graphics of FFVII anyway. I didn't really consider VII's graphics a step up, but I guess it was a step that needed to be taken.

The plot really isn't difficult to understand. It's all laid out pretty clear, though the storyline. The backstory on some of the characters might be a little confusing if you don't talk to everybody and do all the sidequests, but you could still get the gist of it.

As for the advancement system...it was, if not the best, one of the best out of all Final Fantasy games. You have a system that allows for individualization, but not clean slates and complete customization like FFVII's did. Each character had their own unique abilities, usually advanced by level, and their own Magic, advanced by Magic Points.

Gosh did I hate the load times. That must add a lot of time to the game. I felt there should've been almost no load time if done properly. I wonder if they'll ever release a true FF collection. Maybe yrs from now.

Although Graphics I felt are good for its time. I remember when I had the SNES and I thought wow these graphics are amazing. lol! Now you look back and you proabably wouldn't think that anymore. Now I hope the DS version does not have load times, or I will be mad.

So did I. Of course since my family was poor, I only had an NES for many many years. And I played a LOT of FFI, I loved it. I remember seeing my friends strategy guide for "FFIII" filled with screenshots from the game and I was like "Wooooow! It looks soooooo cooooool!"

I remember checking out all the details I noticed. I mean seriously, could you imagine as a child how AMAZING FFVI must've looked like when stacked against the first FF for NES?
