Am I pretty?

Scenario number 1:
The newest lipstick is presented in a TV commercial. First shot -A beautiful woman, usually some super model in a sexy outfit looking on you seductivly. She says something not important to showoff and gives you another hot stare. The next shot makes a huge close up, concentrating on her unnaturally red and fatty shining lips. The finishing shots throw in the product and the name of company with promises to make you(the woman) even more sexy and desired.

Scenario number 2:
A guy rushes to the date with his gf/wife/lover. As he sees her, he smiles and kisses her cheek only to taste the face pudra/cream which covers the beauty's face. When the guy tries to kiss her, he has to eat away the thick layer of lipstick from her lips.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The cosmetic industry earns milliards every year by selling make up, lipsticks, creams and etc. Millions of women are spending hundreds in attempt to look beautiful as the human fashion and standards are demanding.
But is it the real beauty?
Me and my mom argue about the subject a lot. She refuses to understand that I don't like make up and thinks that I'm just lazy to put it on. I do use one lipstick(somethimes) but only cause it gives a soft shine. But it still looks natural and doesn't gives you the irritating taste in your mouth. And how about the unability to touch your eyes, face, to cry and the need to check every 5 min if you didn't spreaded it by mistake.
Is it really needed? I can understand the need in body/face creams which function is the silky and gentle skin's look but what about the make up?
Do you find a woman who's face is covered by colors and chemical stuffs as an attractive one?
Do you enjoy to kiss her and her lipstick?
What is the real beauty for you?

Overall make-up is ugly and fake, ie not attractive. But there is sometimes I think it would look allright. Really it depends on the person, for example blondes do not suit tans 1 bit and should refrain from the sun to keep that cute tone, but for red heads/gingers this is the complete opposite, red heads in particular look cute with a nice tan. Same goes with make-up, Blondes don't need makeup yet so many of them wear it and look stupid. Red heads with freckles I do not find attractive, so just to cover them up (thats if I were a chick, a few girls look cute with freckles).

Really I think a lot of girls don't need make up, they just need to look after their skin better, drink more water. Make up covering pimples doesn't work, my ex use to do that, I am assuming because of her fair skin, but she went red real easy. She looked better without it. You can't really chose what you look like, and though you think you ugly, others may have a completely differant view, its just the luck of the draw in life I guess. I hate the way I look personally but I am a guy so I would look like a fag if I tried to change it, probably end up like MJ.

Overall I do not find it attractive, again, not natural. I know it sux not looking how you want to, but a guy isnt worth it if he only cares about some fake apperance.

I am a chick, and although I were make-up on occasion I think it is a lie. Your lips are not that shiny or red. It is one thing to have fun with it an out it on, but it is a whole nother thing to where it as your face. Personally I do not like girls that have to wear make-up constanlty....I always think they are trying too hard or trying to forget what their real face looks like. Besides that, i can tell you are wearing make-up. I can tell when I am wearing make-up. Natural is just better. No harsh chemicals, and no having to worry about your bf finding out what you really look like. I prefer to put my natural beauty on display an not the products. Although on occasion I find it fun to put on a flirty lipstick or smoky eyes. it is the application, and enhancment that it fun to play with. But overall make up is fake, and no matter what your mom says , you should rely on who you really are, than a product that tells you you have to paint your face to be sexy. Sometimes love is waking up in the morning with no make-up, a huge pimple, an drool still stuck to your face, and your sweety still kissing you good morning an saying they love you.

I wear some eye makeup, but it's in natural colours of khaki-green, brown or smokey grey. It doesnt standout much, and i wear a tiny bit of mascara to curl my lashes, and a layer of eyeliner, but I don't top it up much. I wear lipbalm too, which you can barely call makeup. No foundation. No powder. No lipstick. No blusher. My hair is in it's natural colour and state, not straightened or curled and isn't even blowdried, and my tan is natural.

I feel makeup does improve outer appearance, but when used correctly. It looks good when it is used naturaly, and in small quantities. I feel it looks ridiculous when girls and women wear tons of fake-tan to make themselves look like tangerines, with pencil eyebrows, heavy makeup, obviously fake hair and all that. It's bad that people can feel so insecure about themselves that they have to tamper with themselves so much. Plastic surgery is even more extreme. Just look at these famous actreses with those freaky lips and cheekbones... it doesn't look right.

And over everything, inner beauty is more precious than outer beauty.

I think everyone here is over analyzing paint that you apply to make yourself feel happy. If I look in the mirror and I think "Boy it would be cool if my eyelashes were darker" and then I put on mascara and it makes me feel prettier because they are, then it's my business not yours.

I personally like the look of make-up on men and women. It shows that a person is interested in how they can work on their appearance and isn’t afraid to primp. I enjoy the company of such vain companions frankly. And I wear make-up all the time. I wear eyeliner and lipstick normally in fairly dark colors. I personally think the natural look is ridiculous. If you’re painting your face to begin with, why are you painting it to look like you aren’t?

Since we’re on the topic of whether make-up is a mask…I really would have to say in that case shaving is a lie also because you really do have the body hair and also that contacts are a lie because you’re trying to pretend you don’t use glasses.

Umm i kinda have to disagree on that point

Shaving really isn't a mask, its totally natural and not at all cosmetic. You're not adding anything to your face/legs etc. Its just not in the same league as make-up.

Contacts are definately not cosmetic. Some people HAVE to wear contacts due to their ears being too sensitive for glasses. Plus, why wear glasses when technology lets us use contact lenses which are much more practical as they don't get in the way of visual equipment (microscopes etc.) and are less clumbersome.

I must argue against your point.

Shaving is solely cosmetic; there is generally no reason to do so but for looks. Cosmetic means to beautify, not to add something. You can take something away for cosmetic reasons obviously. Say you have a scar on your face and you put creams on it to make it disappear. That’s cosmetic. That’s a mask but do you find it as appalling as make-up?

Contacts are used quite often for only cosmetic reasons. People might be able to use glasses perfectly fine but instead buy contacts because they find them more attractive.

I disagree. I generally would be incerdably embarrased to have legs, armpits and a bikiniline like a gorilla! So would anyone i had to be in contact with. I can't imagine being all hairy and being comfertable with it! Same with huge beards and/or mostaches on men. A little bit is ok, but a face full of fuzz is unattractive to me. If you want to be hairy, its your personal choice, and i do not consider it to be anything cosmetic. So yeah, i shave, and i also tweze those little rebellious hairs from my eyebrows. I prefer them to be neat.

And on the glasses vs contact lenses thing, its a personal choice. As Pie Man said, some people have sensitive ears, unsuitable for wearing glasses. Others have difficulty having lenses on their eyes so thet'd rather have glasses. Either way, your vision is improved. This is nothing to do with cosmetics. Even corrective-eye-surgery is nothing like that. It is another way to improve your vision.

Being hairy is annoying, contacts allthough better than glasses are not really practical, I normally wear them and they sometimes bunch up making things blurry, and they cause gunk to build up. I am not wearing them right now as I dont need nor can afford them. Never had glasses though.

Hm.

I use make-up. I use everything but blusher. I use it to stand out a little more, just as I dye my hair blood red to give it that awesome tint when the light hits it.
I don't care if people like or dislike my make-up or my hair or my style. Neither should anybody else. I had a scar across my face for a few years, from sunburn when I'd been working outside under the sun. I used make-up to cover it. Sometimes I wouldn't.

There's beauty on both the outside and inside. Anybody who says inner beauty is ALL there should be to a person, is denying the fact that people like to look good. No offence to anybody that says that though.
Physical appearance is important to a lot of men and women. If they want to put some crazy effort into looking good or different, good for them.

Beauty is on the in AND the outside. Interior beauty just matters more in the long-run.

Good points, but, and you may get annoyed, but its due to point of view. Wear make-up if you want to, if you dont, then dont. Feeling unsure of yourself about the way you look can be paranoid about what people think about you. If you feel this way then just forget the consequences and jump headfirst into what you would think as a problematic scenario. Like your lipstick is bright orange or something. Just dont care. However, people may wear make-up because they simply want to, which is also fine, you chose how you use and change your body. It is simply a matter of choice.
