OMG They arrived... (FFII and FFIII)

I finally got my hacked carts back from nesreproductions.com and jesus christ it's everything i could've hoped for!!! i was up till 6AM last night grinding stats in FFII with a NES controller in my hand. believe the hype! you can play translated FFII and FFIII on your US NES!

i've tested both games, everything works just as smooth as my FFI official cart and saving works like a dream. anyone considering using this service (i know LocoColt was thinking about it) i give it my full recommendation!

ok here's how it works:

first you need to on your own find the appropriate donor carts (a list of what donor cart will work for each game see nesreproductions.com). for final fantasy II i picked up ultima: exodus for a couple bucks off ebay (zelda I works too - i thought about getting FFII in a gold cart but decided that would be blasphemous ). FFIII was a pain, as it requires a special pressing of super mario brothers 2 that isn't missing the 6 pin connectors under the cart. i spammed questions to ebay sellers and finally found one.

then you just send them to this dude in canada (after of course dropping him an email) and about a month later they show up on your door step.

pricing is fairly reasonable - $25 per game. FFIII was $35 however, i'm assuming because the guy had to hook up a battery for saving.

i dunno - i was skeptical at first, it seamed too good to be true. but alas, it is true - and now i get to hear that FFII town theme in all it's 8-bit glory every time i need to stock up on potions .

ebay ebay ebay - you can find anything on ebay. there are sellers that specialize in NES games/hardware - one i know has about 2,000 games listed at all times - including final fantasies mint in the box... if only i had the money :'(

but yeah, ebay's the place to find the donor carts.

i saw one time (on ebay) that you could buy a fully translated earthbound zero cartrige for 600 dollars! they might still have some copies though with better prices.

sure - i'll take some picts when i get home from work - granted that will be about 5-6 hours from now, but i promise i'll post em tonight!

(the colors will be a little off cause my NES is on the fritz again - so i have to play the games in this cheep 3rd party famicom knockoff. it plays all the carts just fine, but the colors are kind of gross looking :\ - just remember that it has nothing to do with the carts i got hacked.)

That's crazy! Thanks for that link postal.

I see someone has requested Earthbound before there. Makes me wonder. I don't have an NES anymore though. I guess I'd have to find one on ebay.

Here are those picts i promised - i also got the japanese super mario brothers 2, so i went ahead and included picts of it running too. i'm using this weird 3rd party NES cart player, but it conveniently shows the cart in all its glory, so i just set it next to the TV .

i also opened the FFIII case so you can see the work that went into hacking the cart. it was originally the US super mario 2, so he had to rig a battery on there. all those grey wires are added. my favorite part is the wire that comes down and touches a single pin connector on the back. excellent work!
