Computer generated?
Just wondered if any of you out there create music on your computers? If so what software do you use? And do provide some mp3's if you like.
I use Cubase mainly... been using it since September 2005 so i'm still a rookie in the field. |

I used to compose music using NetWorthy Composer....but without any keyboard or guitar plug in, so it took alot of work and wasn't very top notch either...but it was fun ^_^

I cant play music due to my hands, but I have written a few songs on Guitar Pro 4, quite unique depressive BM kind of sounding. I am looking for a synthercizer so I can work on some ambient music. GuitarPro5 does seem really good but its rather crap.

Usually, I try to write away from a guitar (so I don't get stuck in typical guitar routines), so I'll write stuff that is built for another instrument then rearrange it for guitar.
For that, i"ll write something out using Guitar Pro 5 (using the piano instrument setting), play it on a real piano then rearrange it for guitar. Quote:
Thats primarily meant for 'pro' recording - with real instruments.

I've been using Cakewalk for over a decade. On and off, that is.
I also have the Kinetic remixing software, and that's fun to play with. Lots of techno beats, and a MUCH wider selection than fruityloops. (Of course, when you pay $80 for software, you're going to get more content.)

You pay for software?!!
Guitar pro 4 is awesome for making video game music and such. I taught myself how to use it and have made some pretty unique sounding music .... could I be the next mozart? I can dream can't I hehe |

...umm, yeah, I pay for software. I have nothing else to do with my money except for purchase things legitimately, so why not? Otherwise it's just going to sit there and not get spent, or I'll blow it on someone else because I'm too nice.

Pro-tools can also be used for creating MIDI sequences on a computer... however its REALLY demanding and i don't recommend you download that unless you have a large harddrive, 1gig of memory, and a decent audio card... otherwise your comp will fall over pretty quickly.
Plastik, you might want to start off with fruityloops (which is the name of the software... shity as that name might be O_o) It depends how involved you want to get... Fruity loops is relatively easy to use. You may also want to look at Logic... it has a lot of built in looping drum tracks and recorded samples that can be used... and because its an industry recognised piece of software it can do all the fancy pants stuff too! The software always has help files, and their actually pretty good... but basically get the software and play around, its the best way to learn. Check your computer specs though... this kind of software is demanding. Hell i have a pretty decent computer but it still trips over a little with Cubase. |

Infact, you may want to stay away from stuff where you have to put in original works (as in, there are no pre-recorded rhythms and what not) using standard notation or even tablature if you have no idea what you're doing. Programs such as this include Guitar Pro, Pro Tools, etc. They're meant for kids who have chest hair.
Or Guitar Pro has re-recorded rhythms, like those of Fruity Loops, and I just hadn't found them.

Not sure about guitar pro... dunno why i've never used it O_o But yeah, fruityloops and logic are best for pre-recorded samples.
Its not too hard to figure out the other programs though... pro-tools is probably something a novice should steer clear of, but Cubase i recommend to beginners... the software is being made so user friendly these days, makes it more accessible. |
