Single-Job Challenges

I was cruising along GameFAQs one day long ago when I came across a FAQ that had an interesting proposal. Play through FF Tactics only using one job. The challenge really made you make use of new strategies and introduced a whole new challenge. Playing through as only summoners was super-fun.

Being that I already beat the game and did the whole cloud/zodiac/everything else stuff, I was more than glad to add some play time to one of my favorite games.

And of course, I had the idea of trying it out in Tactics Advance. It was trickier, what with the hamperred recruiting meathods, but I was able to try them out. And they were pretty fun too, if you didn't mind the occasional catch.

So. I'm bringing this idea up to see if anyoen is interested in doing a challegne themselves. This thread could be for discussing challenges, offering advice. Perhaps we can even keep records, or a hall of fame for people who complete challenges.

Sound fun?

My brother mentioned an all-Dancer game. I guess it'd be possible to use only Dancers and Bards, and just run like hell. He also mentioned one game where he had everybody learn Equip Gun, and use it.

I was thinking about trying an all-Archer game, though. That'd be interesting. Of course, you would have to have them learn some of the Knight's Battle Skills. It's amazingly fun to break a helmet from all the way across the map.

I still haven't figured out if "Concentrate" works for Battle Skills, too. That'd be awesome.

I can't remember if it does or not, but if so it should help Steal I think as well. But I could be wrong, I can't remember. If it does work, it might not give 100% it might just double the chances, but I'll take 60% chance to break a weapon any day.

As far as the SCC I'm not interested, I find them solely about bragging rights and a waste of time. It's a great game, but I've played through it 3 times already, I don't want to do it again when I have a ton of other games I haven't finished yet.

Frankly, I think it would get monotonous to, same old moves over and over, it would get boring and dependant upon how much freedom you give them, the challenge varies.

If I remember correctly, PA (Attack Power) affects the rate of Steal. There's a guide on Gamefaqs, that explains this (forgot which one). But I remember it saying Monk's with Steal are great combinations.

EDIT: Agreed Cobain, I'm too hot on the whole SCC thing either, for the same reason.

Actually, you're thinking of Martial Arts. Steal's success rate is affected by Sp, not PA; however, it's considered an unarmed attack, so Martial Arts increases its success rate by 50%. The reason Monks make such great thieves is that they have innate Martial Arts, so they get the bonus but they're free to equip something else, such as Concentrate or AttackUP (which gives another 50% boost) in their S-ability slot.

Regarding Concentrate; this ability doesn't make it to where your attacks always hit, but it makes it so that they can't be evaded (or guarded). Basically, if you attack with concentrate, treat it as if the defender's C-Ev, S-Ev, A-Ev, and W-Ev were all 0. This means that normal attacks will generally be 100% accurate (unless the target has Blade Grasp or Arrow Guard or something) but attacks like Battle Skill or Steal that are inherently innacurate can still miss. Concentrate is still a great choice for your thief's S-ability, but just remember that your success still isn't guaranteed.

The whole team of dancers would be easy, especially if you stopped quick and made them all ninja's for a tick to get sunken state. If the dancers are dancing wiznaibus before they get hit they never become visible again, the poor monsters just run around the board looking confused.
