Of course there is a difference!!! They don't make two different spheregrids for fun!
Normal Grid --> Simple... just follow the paths the characters start on! Expert --> If you don't choose your path well in this grid, a whole damn lot can go wrong! I play the expert and several of my characters are not nearly as strong now as they would have been with the normal grid. So I have done something wrong and I actually don't know what.... I'm about to fight Seymour Flux (again) and my characters sucks so if you do not know the game well yet, then don't use the expert grid It'll just make things hell for youhehe see? If you use the expert grid... things can get really tough for you. |

Yeah the normal sphere grid is for beginners. It's a lot more simplified than the expert sphere grid. The first time I played Final Fantasy X, I started off with the simple grid. It is good to use but I very much prefer the expert grid....even though it is a little more difficult than the other. I thought the expert grid had it's advantages. My characters were better off with the expert grid. So, if you're only playing the game for the first time.. I would recommend using the simple grid. It will make the game easier for you first go.

The expert grid only comes on the international version of FFX. Along with the ribbon ability. And the Dark Aeons. Damnit, someone send me an international copy of FFX and a European PS2.
Balion, I'm just wondering, how do the grids differ? You said that mistakes are possible on th expert, but I have no idea what you mean. |

With the normal grid, every character has a pretty much fixed path. Sure, there are ways to move around, but most of these involve either warp spheres or else backtracking and going through a lock. If you don't know what you're doing, you can basically just follow every character's path and you'll come out moreorless alright.
With the expert grid, every character starts near a big central area, and most of them can backtrack into with just a few moves, none of which pass through locks. If you wanted to pull a big shikane and have every character move onto the grid of the guy on their right, it wouldn't cost you more than 5-10 levels per character, and no key spheres. On top of that, there is a lot more interweaving of paths - even if you start your characters along their respective paths, it's easy for them to cross over halfway through the game. And if that weren't confusing enough, I think that some characters' paths fork. I don't remember specific details about the grid (I only saw it once, a while ago) but it's a lot harder to figure out where you're supposed to move the characters to. Also, the expert grid has fewer spaces, so if you're trying to maximize your stats, you want the standard grid. However, the expert grid has a few new interesting abilities, such as Pilfer Gil (steals Gil), Nab Gil (steals gil and attacks), and Full Break (breaks Power/Armor/Magic/Mind). Take your pick. |
