Transparency Tut.
well, i was asked to make one, so sure.. why not!
![]() 1. Start by pressing Ctrl + N, to make a new thingo. Make it whatever size you want your banner. For this example, i've made mine at 400x60. 2. Fill it with any colour you want, other than white. It should look something like this 3. Press Ctrl + A to select everything. Now Press Ctrl + X to cut the selection. Leaving you with a blank square. 4. Press Alt + Ctrl + C to change the canvas size. Make the canvas a few cm bigger that what it currently is. (depending on how much room you want it to have.) 5. Now press Ctrl + V to paste the thing you cut earlier. Should look something like this 6. For rectangular or square cuts, use the Rectangular Marquee tool, select the bit you want transparent, then delete it. Or if you want to move it to a differnet place, drag it to where you want it with the Move tool, or nudge it to where you want it, with the arrow keys. I've done the move thing, but if you want to delete it you can. 7. Circular cuts are the same, but you use the Ellipictal Selector instead of the Rectangular one. I delete a bit off the corner... 8. Angled cuts, you use the Polygon Lasso tool. Hold shift to get your lines straight. Something like that 9. Delete the background layer. 10. All done! the rest is up to your creativity ![]() Another way, is to make the New thingo bigger to start with, then fill in a section with the retangular marquee tool. (Whichever is easiest for you!) EDIT: hrmm.. also.. could someone give me feedback for this tut.? its the first i've done.. so i wanna know if its easy enough to follow! ;p Last edited by Alma Del Diablo; 02-25-2006 at 04:13 PM. |

Eh, I believe you covered it well enough. Me, personally, I just work right on top of a transparent background, but after so many years, you get used to it. Your instructions were very clear, and that's what's most important.
NOTE FOR APPLE USERS: Replace all Ctrl with widget. |
