Alternate dimensions

Just like FFTA, do you guys believe in them?

In a word ... no.

I'm not saying that they don't exist. They very well might. I just don't believe they do. Kinda like ghosts and aliens. Sure, they may be out there somewhere, but I haven't seen anywhere near enough credible evidence to convince me.

Ok but just think how different stuff would be, saying IF it existed, and just saying how would the laws of science and history occur?

History, maybe, would be different. As for laws of science and physics, I see no reason they would be any different.

Interesting concept, though. I mean, if they were real, and we could get back and forth to/from them, that would open up time travel. But, then again, no.

If you do not know about it, might try looking up Harry Turtledove, he write alternative history and does a pretty good job at it too. Alternative history is always an interesting subject I have, and one of his more recent books is about how what if the Roman Empire never fell. It is more or less present day for us in that it would take place around the 2000s, but with the Roman Empire still intact.

However, that is not the only thing, they have the ability to travel dimensions so they can go to alternative realities. This explores some of the concepts you are talking about. It does make for some very interesting historical and archeological studies seeing as with a different history and events you can see what happened if something went different.

There is also the interesting concept that the movie The One had, in that power was even across all realities, but with the death on a single person in a reality, the others become stronger since the power is spread across fewer of the same person. This does make for an interesting concept in that one can grow stronger by the death of alternative realities of yourself. But since strength is equall across all, it still means that it is an even fight of power, though strength is determined by skill and abilities.

But one of the more interesting alternative histories of Turtledoves was the Civil War, he made some changes, in that someone from the future brought back weapons, AK-47 I think, giving them to the Confederate Forces. The south won independence and the US became divided. But not nearly as interesting as that was that he went to write later an addition to that one book a series of books dealing with what would happen when World War I broke out with that timelime. The North being on the side of England and France, with the South being on the side of Germany, a new war between the North and South breaks out. Seeing as there has not be a war on American soil in a century, this makes for a very interesting read.

I have not had the opportunity to read those books, I read his alternative history of World War II, what would happen if the world war was put on hold due to an even greater threat and they were all force to work together. An alien force comes in to attack and conquer earth, they say them as an easy planet, unfortunately for them their data was 400 years old. They got their data from when Earth was in the middle ages and they had the assumption that their development would be slow like their own and the other civilizations they conquered, unfortunately two things happened. They invade during a World War, meaning the entire world was mobilized for combat and prepared to fight, plus the Earth developed technologically a lot fast then than predict. They also tried to use electromagnetic pulse to knock out their communications, but since we were using vacuum tubes and electronics was not around yet, it had no effect. It ended up being like the 2000's Earth military strength with a few stronger technological advances, going and making war on the 1942 Earth.
But since the war was put on hold, you end up with the Nazi controling all of Europe still and many other things that are not the same as today. It makes for very interesting read.

Oh and Horyo write more in your posts, this is the Intellentual Forums afterall, more content and some thorough reasoning would make the thread stronger.

I've never believed in alternate dimensions so much as I've believed in alternate planes of reality. I heard it in a book I read called Magician: Master by Raymond E. Feist(damn good book, damn good writer). What he was talkin bout was the main character this dude named Pug was becoming all powerful in regards to magic and stuff and he was powerful enough to travel to the Gods' temple where they supposedly resided. Well when he got there, he couldn't see them. They weren't there, but they were, ya know? They didn't exist on the same terms that everything else in that universe or dimension or whatever existed. They resided on an alternate plane of reality entirely. While their presence could be detected or hinted at, that was the only aspect in which they existed in that time and place.

So yeah, I believe in ghosts and whatnot, but I believe that they exist on an alternate plane of reality and cannot directly influence things on this plane. How one gets to this plane is beyond me, becuase I still am not sure how ghosts fit in with my own ideas of heaven and hell and an afterlife.

Couldn't one classify Heaven and Hell as alternate dimensions or planes of reality? Because if they do exist, they certainly don't exist anywhere here physically. Going up into the clouds doesn't take you to Heaven and drilling to the center of the Earth won't take you to Hell(although it will quite possibly kill you).

I believe there is only a here and now.
I don't think there is an alternate reality/dimension.
Reality is what we make of it right now.
In a sense it gives you a feeling of power, like
I control the future! woo!
but yes. I don't think an alternate reality exists.

BUT, I do think it is interesting to ponder how
reality could have been different had you chosen
a different path in life. I'm not saying that it exists,
just that the thought of a different life you might
have had if you made different choices in life.

Do I believe in other dimensions? I'm not too sure, I have thought about it in the past but I am still undecided. It is possible that they do exist out there but we have no evidence that they do. It would be pretty interesting if there was such a thing. Talking about this reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons where Homer is taken to a different dimension lol. I guess we won't find out unless evidence is found. My friend believes in it but she believes in a lot of weird things!

Hmm...one of those things that can never be proven. I dunno, we're probably on top of several worlds intertwined...nothing mystical about it, I mean, we live in a body with limited resources. It'd be silly to think how we see the world is the only way it can be seen, that there aren't any other things out there because we simply haven't discovered them, and so fourth and so fifth...

Heaven and Hell.

Ok I will try to be more descriptive..

But everyone, if you heard of the stirng theory, its about our universe being one string, very small yet large, nad there are millions of other strings out there, we cannot pass the only thing that can is gravity(?).

Also if we can go to other dimensions, and it turns out to be the same dimension except in a diferent timezone, then we woudl be able to mess thngs up there, like...Hitler winning the WWII, or seeing if Jesus came back, or keeping him from being Cruxified, if we can do that, then woudl that affect our Universe?

Also, how would we be able to travel through universes? My first thought was a "wormhole" but then if you went through a wormhole, thers some force that keeps you form going all the way through, and you can't go back since thats a black hole.

But wouldnt' it be fun for all you to go to a world like FFTA? Where you have magical jobs and can do missions and adventures, and explore the world>? Also think if Caeser didn't burn down the Library of Alexander, would we be ahead of our time now?

And also if the aliens did come now, in the Iraq war, waht if they had information abou tus at this moment, and prepared to knock out anything we sent at them? (War of the Worlds) WOuld the humanr race be saved by tiny pathogens and small amoebas? Would we develop some...Viral gun? What if that planet discovered this and started immunizing their soldiers, would we be doomed anyways?

I'd have to say...not really. Seems a little fishy that no one has toyed with those "alternate dimensions" and destroyed all of reality, were it true.
