FFXII World Map

Sorry if there's already a thread like this somewhere on TFF but does anyone know anything about the world map for FFXII? Or if there even will be one? I haven't had to opportunity to play the demo, and not even sure if it showed a sign of a world map.

Could anyone shed some light on this for me, or maybe some SS's? Thanks

The world map is a little unclear at this moment, I do not know if they will actually be having it or not. Since this game is appearing more and more like FFXI, I have a feeling it will be like FFX in this a map, just you won't be travel it giant style across the globe. Though if they do it like DQVIII that would be awesome, I really like the way they made the world map. However, FF is usually less Dungeon based in a lot of cases, at the least the more recent ones. Since FF before FFX were all world map based I guess I really cannot make that a strong claim.

Well, I never liked dungeon based RPG's as much as un-dungeon based ones. Forexample I would rather play Final Fantasy 8 than Star Ocean ~ Because Star Ocean is dungeon based.
Dungeons are boring and long. I don't see the need of them in RPG's. Dungeons go in Adventure games, not RPG's if you ask me.

Well, the DQ8 map was 3D, it would hard to beat that. But I think it'll be something like Final Fantasy 10, with no real word maps, but with a map you can just look at.

Um....what? Dungeons are what makes RPGs RPGs. Without dungeons all you have are towns and battles.

FF8 had dungeons they just weren`t repetitive like Wild Arms games. They were all different.

Hmm, FFXII is set in the world of FFT. Just a wild guess, but the map just might be a lot like that one.

The world will work the same way that FFXI does, its a fully 3D environment that you can rotate the camera around however you want. Connecting between maps they do not go in about at this point. But it will probably be like FFX and FFXI, where you just zone into the next map. There will probably be airship transport eventually or early on that might affect zone travel. It could be like FFX-2 and they are all individual zones that do not connect and are only access via the airship. Personally I would hate that, I like a fully inter connected world.

me and my friends were just speculating the other day how incredible FFXII will be once you leave that huge castle town that's featured in all of the trailers. like FFVII - the beginning of the game feels like the whole thing could take place in midgar, it's such a revelation when you first see the overworld.

i don't doubt for a second that there is going to be a massive overworld filled with towns, dungeons, and monsters. it's freakin final fantasy come on.

Yeah, I absolutely agree with you there...except...without dungeons, RPG's wouldn't be the same. They are annoying but the game needs them. The game probably wouldn't be as interesting without them. You would only have cities and forest if you didn't have any dungeons. It just wouldn't be the same in my opinion.

With the map, I really hope it'll be like the Final Fantasy VIII map. That would be sweet. I was a little disappointed with X because there was not a proper map to run around. The map would probably look excellent because of the technology now. They might not make a map for this game, maybe they'll have it like Final Fantasy X. There was a map in FFX but not a very good one.

Map be granted, here it is I found it while on Magic Box, there is now a map to the face. It is a little on the small side, but you should be able to make some comparsions to the FFT map. It has been a while since I played it, so I really do not know how it matches up. Plus depending on the time period a lot of what we know from FFT could be completely different since the kingdoms could be completely different having fallen or not existed yet.

i heard that from getting to one place to another can take a good amount of time like in FFXI, making it a more realistic world, this could mean taking anywhere from 30 mins to an hour.

they say that riding chocobos could be a very important part of transportation if you want to get where you want to go in quick means

(just from what i heard that is)

it's true

getting from place to place can take a lot of time because of the huuuuge maps in between.

but after you reach the place with save crystals which allow you to teleport, things will get easier.

i read that the world is similar to ffx and that you use a airship to travel later on like ffx but there are some places that you cant on a airship so you need to ride a chocobo or i think there are islands that require you to geton a boat there.
