I like a lot of bands, but there are only a few that really fit under the category of "favourite". They are as follows:
Pantera Is, and always will be, my favourite band of all time. I don't know what it is, but there's just something about them that I always liked. I think most of it had to do with Dime's sheer greatness at guitar, and perhaps how driving a lot of their songs are. Rex was a little invisible on bass, but I think he did manage to contribute to the sound. Vinnie is amazing at drums, and Phil could actually sing at one point. December 8th, 2004 really hit me hard, finding out that he was gunned down on stage. Rest in peace, Dime, rest in peace. Megaherz Most people in North America have heard of Rammstein, and associate them as the epitome of German "industrial" music. Personally, I think they pale in comparison to Megaherz as far as music goes. Megaherz' songs are far superior, and Alexx and Mathias could actually sing. The only problem with Megaherz is the difficulty to keep a singer. Alexx was around for the first four major albums, and the songs on each are simply incredible. Mathias joined shortly after the departure of Alexx, and brought a pretty incredible voice to accompany the band's sound. Sadly, he also left the band recently, resulting in the cancelling of the band's tour. It's just too bad that Megaherz never really made it overseas. Dream Theater Dream Theater can easily be considered the most talented band in the mainstream right now. The band consists of a combination of some of the best musicians in the world, with John Petrucci on guitar, Mike Portnoy on drums, John Myung on bass and Jordan Rudess on keyboard. They've gone through a few keyboardists, but I find that Jordan is the best. He brings his classical pianist background to the band, as well as the ability to "shred" his keyboard. It's difficult to describe them using words other than "incredible" and "BUYTHISBANDSALBUMSNOW". Truly amazing stuff. Iced Earth Much like Pantera, I'm not sure what drove me to like Iced Earth so much. I was first introduced to them during the Barlow years, around Burnt Offerings and The Dark Saga. As far as I'm concerned, every one of their songs is outstanding. Each song has its own flavour, and Jon Schaffer has perfected "machine-gun" rhythm guitar. There have been a multitude of different musicians in the band, but one constant is Schaffer's excellent writing. What adds to the band's quality is the voice of Matthew Barlow. As far as I'm concerned, Barlow is simply the best singer in the genre of metal, ever. Incredible voice. Incredible music. |
