Final Fantasy VII Help Thread

In light of the Final Fantasy VIII Help Thread, I've made a FFVII help thread (I really hope there isn't already one of these...I looked all over the place...). If you have any questions about FF VII, post 'em here, I guess (I'm kinda unsure about this 'cause I don't want to be doing something that has already been done...).

I have a question. I've played FF VII, like, 6 times I think. There is a treasure chest/box in the city of Kalm in someone's house that absolutely won't open. Like, every time I attempt to open it, it says, "It's locked..." or something like that (I haven't played it in a while). I was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this or if it's just gonna remain a mystery.

P.S. I'm not referring to the cabinet with the Ether or Elixer or whatever in it, that can be acquired by repeatedly attempting to open the cabinet (the one that Cloud kicks to knock it off the shelf).

Well, I don't play FFVII often enough to know off the top of my head what you're talking about, so I'll let someone else help you. I can, however, stick this thread.

It's impossible to open and is empty. It was probably home to adeleted materia (such as prevent floor damage) or weapon.

Yeah, I mean, that's kinda what I figured. I was just kinda hoping there was some little trick to it. I just figured, if they were going to program a response to the investigation of the chest, then maybe there was a reason for it. Oh well...

Yeah, I figured there was one of these threads somewhere as well and I didn't want to look like a jack-ass by starting another one, so I spent like, 15 minutes looking for one. Phew! I'm kinda glad there wasn't one, for sake of not looking completely like a noob. Well, thanks for sticking this.

I have found the same chesst that you are talking about before as well. From what I could find out, I believe it is just an extra that was left in from the Japanese version of the game, before it hit the USA. Then again, I am not sure which game you are playing. I have read before on other forums that the chest was actually accessable once you had destroyed all the WEAPONS, and before you fight final Sephiroth... not sure though, never really went back and tryed it out.

While it has been a long time since I did a 100% completion on FFVII, I am pretty sure I know the chest you are talking about. And it has to do with the Weapons like Biggs said. I cannot remember what it gives but I think it is Master Materia, the 4 Master Materia that grants you everything in in the group. Master Magic or whatever that gives you all the Magic Spells, and Command, etc. I am not completely sure, but I am fairly certain it is opened when you complete the Weapons Side Quest, you have to kill Emerald I think because killing both gives you the Gold Chocobo, I think. But like I said its been a while, I know you get a couple rewards for the defeat of all the Weapons.

i'm having an issue with Red XIII's level 4 limit break, cosmo memory. obviously, i obtained from defeating lost number when you crack the safe in shinra mansion, and now it's an item in my list, however it's not allowing me to set Red XIII's limit level to 4, so i can use it... and it won't let me give it to him through the item list, so what am i doing wrong, or do i have to get past Disc 1 before he's allowed to use it, and if so, will it automatically let me set his limit level to 4?

the first time i played ff7 i skipped this part all together, so this time around im doing everything in full.... that's where the confusion lies

nevermind i'm stupid, just realized i dont have all of the previous limit's learned yet. i only left this post up for someone who had same problems as i did.

Hey everyone.. I get Item called last elixir from box when I was climbing in north crater. And when Ilooked in to my items I didn't see it. Do you kow where it disapper...?

if i'm at the gold saucer (2nd time) to get the keystone from dio. is there any way that at this part in the game I can get a gold chocobo so I can access the ancient forest? if so how!

It's just an Elixer. It's the last one you can obtain in the game if you've gotten all the previous ones, unless you steal them fro ma tonberry Master or morph a monster into one.

No. You are silly. You cannot even begin to get chocobo's until either the Chocobo stables are opened up to you (thats in disc 2 I believe) or you fight and kill ruby Weapon (disc 3). Since i'm pretty sure the part you're at is Disc 1, I doubt you have the capability of doing either of these things.

^_^ you're welcome. Though if you want a good strat for attaining a gold choco through breeding I know more about that stuff than the chocobo sage at this point -_-
