To start....
The first Underworld film is personally the best film i have ever seen. Mainly because i love vampires and lycans etc...so ya know, it's my kind of film.

So, i was extremely ecstatic when i heard the second one was coming out, and was sooo happy to finally see it on Saturday. WHAT A LET-DOWN!!!

There were so many problems with it -
1) It was rated 18 because it had too much gore in it
2) You hardly saw any of the characters from the first film, and they were so cool!
3) The storyline was way too basic, they could have put so much more detail into it to make it better.
4) To sum it up, compared to the first Underworld film, it was rubbish. Didn't get me all shaking with happiness like the first did.

I thought it was a fun film, but it definitely wasn't as good as the original. There was a lot more unfocused, gratuitous violence in this one than the first one. The first one was a lot more sleek, like a Matrix or Blade movie. I did enjoy the opening scene at the beginning of the movie. Then, however, about halfway through the movie, there's a scene that wasn't really necessary... I wasn't expecting it; I thought they would cut to something else. But they didn't, and it happened. Oh well.

Spoiler: You thought you were getting a monster flick, but instead you get a soft core porn flick

There was also something that happened towards the end of the movie that wasn't consistent with how similar things happened in the first movie.

Spoiler: Kate Beckinsale becoming a hybrid through drinking the old guy's blood, instead of him biting her for her to get the powers. Micheal got bit by both a werewolf and a vampire for him to become a hybrid... although I suppose Markus became a hybrid by drinking the one werewolf's blood at the end of the first one, so... but how did the old guy have any powers in his blood? He wasn't a werewolf or a vampire... we never got to see him fight, so we have no idea what he was capable of. Too bad.

In short, I enjoyed it, and probably better than the other two mindless action movies I saw during this school year (Doom and Transporter 2.) Definitely not as good as the original, however. That I remember. Heh.

Yeah, the spoiler tag is [spoil*] not [spoiler]. Anyways, I haven't seen this film yet but i heard that it was a little dissapointing. I still can't wait to see it. My wife is going to send me the DVD when it comes out.

Underworld: Evolution is really good. It just has a completely different feel from the first one. I'm going to write a full review on it probably tomorrow (as I have been up for over 24 hours solid now).

And Mike, if I can get a pirated version, I could probably send it to you. It'll be ages before it's on DVD.

Has anyone seen the special edition DVD of the first Underworld film? Just wanted to add that they should have kept it the way it is in the special edition. More scenes, and a little bit of romance between kraven and Erika (blonde vampire). There wasnt too much added but it did make the film a lot better.

The main problem with Underworld Evolution is that they changed it so dramatically after the first one, so it's almost like seeing a completely different film. They could have at least had some of the old characters in.

Oh I'll probably get a pirated version soon. There is a shop here ran by iraqis and another one by iranians. They sell mostly carpets, souvenirs, and fake Rolex watches. They just love to priate movies in this region of the world and I can buy lots of movies for $5 a disc. Most of the discs come with multiple movies on it. However these ae usually filmed "in theatre" and have crappy audio and video. It gives you that movie theatre feel though when you see someone stand up in front of the screen.

So even though I can get a pirated version i would prefer the DVD with all the extra features.

Ummm, they did have several of the old characters in it. Kraven was in it, Viktor was in it, Michael was in it, Selene was in it, the female vampire elder (can't remember her name) was in it, too. There were quite a few from the first in it, but there were alot of the main characters that couldn't be in it mainly....

But let's not go into that much detail on the old characters returning to the new film...don't want to spoil anything for anyone!

I saw it this weekend. It was not what I thought it would be. However it was still better then Last Holiday. Which I also saw this weekend.
