I actually thought about this and I think it would totally work. These guys are all around superb. They are more than decent in attack power plus all of their magic buffs - Haste, temper etc. They have cure AND elemental cablilities. The only thing is they do not posses a spell to heal the whole party :/

The Heal spell is gone indeed. What I'm afraid about is that once they get a single whoopin' you would be pretty much toast. What if one dies? You can't learn Life until you become a Red Wizard. Yeah, you use Phoenix Downs. My guess is, you'll spend more time trying to stay alive, then that you'll actually fight.
At least, that my point of view, never really tried it. I SHOULD ![]() |

I think it would be very successful. The Red Mage/Wizard is one of the best well rounded characters in the game. You'll only really notice problems I think at the very end. I mean you will be pretty good at getting through the game right from the get-go with your Rapier's and such. However once you get near the end you'll notice more of the Red Wizards limitations. The nice thing is each party member can have a job, an attacker, defender, healer, and attack magic person. Each role can be switched for each battle.
But you'll still notice not having Nuke or Life 2, and or perhaps any of the good Heal spells. You'll also notice not being able to equip the overall BEST weapons and armor in the game. You'll still succeed with good leveling up, but you'll always be a step off of kick ass.

In traditional FF1, the "what if somebody dies" question was an issue with almost every party out there. Sure, WM/WW/RW can learn life, but... well, you can't cast it during battle, and it's the same level as Cure 3... and trust me, you'd MUCH rather be using that spell point for a Cure 3 than to revive somebody. In fact, in my experience, a WM's level 1, 3, 5, and 7 spells are meaningless because 95% of the time you'll be using all your spells for those levels to cast Cure. Anyway, the trick is to not get KO'ed in the first place, which you do by keeping your characters HP high enough that they won't die. Death then usually means your WM is out of spells and you've exhausted your supply of potions. In otherwords, it means a trip back to the nearest town to get your characters revived at the temple. I think the 4 red mage party would probably work fairly well most of the way through the game. You'd fly by the first half with ease - hit things with your swords, have four characters capable of casting Cure and Cure 2, and have the occasional Fire 2 or Dia 2 if you need it. It's toward the end of the game that you realize, "Wait... I don't have any really good attackers. All my characters are hitting for really cruddy damage. Ohwell, I guess I'll cast a spell... except I don't have any good attack spells." While admittedly, I've never tried a RedMage in FF1 (I learned my lesson when I tried to use 'em in FF3 and FF5), everything I've heard about them suggests that the only thing a red mage gives you toward the endgame of FF1 is another target for enemies to divide their attacks between. |

Yeah, I think its a good idea, but Red Mages have low attack power and low def and vulnerable to high atk monsters...
You'd better bring MP recovery items and potions coz Chaos will be tough, magic only deal low damage to him.

I beat the game with WAR/RDM/WHM/BLM.
With the right buffs, my RDM's attack power was higher than my warrior's. RDM's are formidable attackers. It's the healing that worries me. |

I am a sucker for RMages so I think it'll work.I think u can press > to heal the party. Although u cant use Curaja and stuff using 4 Cure 2 on the party via the whole party. It will work except for Chaos. I beat him with no WM and I used a party of Red Mage, Warrior, Thief, Black Mage.Thing is, just like the 4 RM party, I had trouble healing but the Knight and RedWizard combined their White magic strength to heal when the ridin got rough while the Ninja did the temper and the Black Wiz did haste and then it was just high lvl spells with lots-o defense

the true challenge is the white mage party or the one man red mage team.
i still have not beated the game (NES) with all white mages even though i have leveled up until i puked. currently at Temple of fiends (when youe fight chaos). although fade (holy for you DOS fans) helps out alot. and with the one man red mage team i managed to reach gurgu volcano. i am still working on it (NES)

I am sure I posted in this topic before oh well. I don't think it would actually be that hard depending on what version you are playing seem as how they are all even. I have the Origins version and am on easy, basically the only hard thing so far is finding my way through the dungeons and caves, I would say try the white mage 1, seems way more complicated.

I've been through the game with a purely Red Mage party. It's not really all that difficult, you just need to grab a lot of healing items, as has been stated frequently before. I did end up doing much more leveling than with most teams, though, and it kind of got a little boring after a while.
All in all, it wasn't too different from using most any other team. It was a bit more difficult, but it wasn't that bad.

anything is possible if you're willing to put in endless hours of leveling. i think there's even an FAQ on how to beat the game with a single white mage O_O
