Hostel

I just got back from the theater about an hour ago from watching Hostel...

I hate to say it, but this was one of the biggest wastes of money that I've ever seen. But you can't expect much from the creator of "Cabin Fever". For all the horror fans out there, prepare to be let down if you go and see this film. Seriously. I tried forcing myself to like it, but it just didn't happen.

Spoiler:
One of the main reasons that I didn't like this movie was because of how horrible they set up the trailer for the film. It gave me the impression that it would be all hard to watch horror, but in all seriousness, there was maybe five minutes of torture throughout the entire film. The rest was like some terrible teen movie gone wrong. Actually, if you cut out the five minutes of gore, you'd be watching that ****ing Harold and Kumar movie...or Eurotrip.

I can't even bring myself to call this a horror film...

What did you think?

I agree there wasn't as much of what the trailer suggested, but critics are to blame. "Oh its too much for alot of people." or "I've seen so many people walk out." really ruined it.

Only 6 people walked out, but thats still bad. This industry is coming out with mass amounts of sucky and mediocre movies. Now even some "big hit" movies are barely hitting 70-90 million.

But back onto the topic. I liked it for what it was. It wasn't proclaimed to be anything super great, so I watched and enjoyed it for what it was. I liked the flow of the story, but my problem is the last 10 or so movies I've done the play by play to the exact while watching, so there are never any suprises in it. I think this goes to how movies are diminishing in quality or maybe its like its been predicted and the entertainment industry is falling.

Hostel= Good movie. I give it a B- overall.

I don't know if you all have heard of this, but I would recommend the movie Audition. The guy that did Hostel is supposed to be obsessed with the guy that did Audition, which is why they have similarities in the torture scenes. From what I hear, if you have the choice between the two movies, see Audition.

It's supposed to be rather ****ed up. Oh, and it's Japanese. I'll have to see it and get back to you.

Japanese horror movies are supposed to be super crazy. Battle Royale is supposed to be good, too. I can't remember the other movie's name, but a friend was telling me about it.

I guess they invented some drug in the movie that turns pain into sexual pleasure. He told me that there was a scene where some girl was boiling some food and she put her hand in the boiling water. Then she started eating her hand and getting off on the pain because she was on the drug.

I guess it's supposed to be pretty brutal.

And Eli Roth (creator of Hostel) also made Cabin Fever. I wasn't very impressed with that film either, but it's better than Hostel.

In my opinion the only things I liked about the movie were the extremely unnesesary pornography in it... that was cool. And the fact that there was a lot of it. Other than that I would love to have my five dollars back. The movie was trash. Untouched, unadulterated pile of mokey turd. You know that in the prevews they say something like: "If you are afraid of the dark go and see another movie" well, I make it shorter: "See another movie".

It Sucks

Yea, the man's name is Takeshi Miike. He made some disguistingly gory movies but did it with a storyline. Not just to satisfy the gore fans.

Just watched Hostel and I'm with the others. It's all about blood and gore and absolutely no part other than when the girl noticed her eye missing made you feel any emotions. Twas craptacular

I agree with most of the comments, I think the movie blows and isn't realistic at all, but then I guess most horror in general and this movie arent meant to be, they're just meant to scare the hell outta the viewer, down here in Australia it was advertised as "Quentin Tarantino Presents" Hostel, I dunno if it was released that way in any other part of the world tho.

Just an aside on Japanses horror, is there a thread on it or do we need to start one? I LOVE Japanses horror and have about 25 DVD's of it , from the Ring trilogy to One Missed Call and The Eye to the original Dark Water. I think it needs a thread.

I have to say that I was disappointed because they made sound like it was some sort of scary movie when it was actually just a somewhat pornographic gore fest. Luckily, I like gore fest but I was expecting scary. This movie had my hopes all worked up for nothing.

Hostel sucked. Hostel 2 sucked. Cabin Fever sucked. I dont know why people think Eli Roth is this great Director, when he's mediocre at best....
