Anyone who is as disappointed with this as I am? I know that not everyone owns a HD TV and it will probably be a while before it becomes the standard, but they ARE becoming increasingly more popular, and even at this point they are far from uncommon.
Well, atleast PS3 won't disappoint... |

I assume that this only means the revolution won't take advantage of the picture quality of HDTV? Oh well, I doubt any of the consoles will take HDTV to the edge.

Pardon my ignorance... but.. What's HDTV? High Definition TV? I've never really heard of it... Is it just like those crazy flat screen tvs they're swingin' these days? Fill me in, baby.

Yeah, that's pretty much it, SB.
And I don't mind that the Revolution doesn't support HD -- just because you have an HDTV doesn't mean every single thing absolutely has to be in high definition. You can watch non-HD channels on an HDTV, can't you? As such, you can play your Revolution on an HDTV as well; it simply won't take advantage of the high definition features of the television, that's all. It's not the Apocalypse. |

Just read the second spec sheet for the Revolution. It's basically a Gamecube times two! Here is a small segment of the article.
"Revolution's Broadway CPU, developed by IBM, is an extension of the Gekko CPU in GameCube, according to official Nintendo documentation passed to us by software houses. The Hollywood GPU, meanwhile, is believed to be an extension of the Flipper GPU in GameCube. Since developers have not gone hands-on with the GPU, they can only go on Nintendo documentation, which is limited. Exact clock rates were not disclosed, but one development source we spoke to had this to say of the Revolution CPU and GPU: "Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you're done." We presented that description to another informed studio, which clarified that the clock rates may even fall short of doubling those on GameCube. "The CPU is the same as Gekko with one and a half to two times the performance and improved caching," said a source. "Our guys experimented with it and think they'll be able to get about twice the performance as GameCube." " No High Def, but the developers said with this setup the system can easily run for a mere $150. It was also worth noted that it COULD even be fine at a $99 price range. I'm completly satisfied with the Revolution, and I'm glad I wont have to pay an arm or a leg for it.

The revolution isn't as powerfull as the other two but it's got a much more loyal fanbase, I know I'll be buying one simply for the mario games. Hopefully they'll offer other controllers as well, I'm not fond of playing games with a remote control.

It has Gamecube controller ports, for users who are more comfortable with cords.
There's also a GC controller-esque shell that the remote controller can be plugged into, in case you meant remote in that sense. It would be much lighter than all the wireless controllers currently on the market, too, which is good. While I've always liked bulky controllers, I've never liked heavy ones. ...but that's all off the topic. |
