Any Tips for Fighting Storm Dragon?
So I just recently entered the World of Ruin and Ive just gotten CYAN back after he sent the letter to that girl he was leading on in Maranda. I'm in the cave where the Storm Dragon is... but that thing is on level 74 with about 70,000 HP.
I'm only on level 36 (after hours of training... mostly just to get the magic spell "doom" for everyone). Anyone got any tips for beating that horrendous thing? Quote:

First of all, please, do not double post. Next time, use the edit button. It is on the right bottom side of your post. The rules say it explicitly.
Second, Vanish doesn't reduce the magic defenses. Rather, it makes magic always work. You could use other spells like X-Zone or Break, and they would fine too, considering the enemy is vulnerable to them anyways. Some people consider the trick as cheap, but it can be useful on hard battles. As for a longer way to beat it...I don't remember, but I believe Bolt spells were effective against them. Level 36 is too low to fight him...around Level 50is the usual. Force Armor (gained in Fanatics' Tower) is good against it, so do Shell spells or Zoneseek. (Or was it Water spells? Darn, so long since I played...) BTW, there's a helpline for all your needs, and it's a sticky thread.

Vanish/Doom? CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Real men/women beat him the hard way. It's been a while since I played, and when I did so it was on Expert Version 2, in which the lower damage scale made Strago's StepMine extremely powerful. I dunno quite how I would beat him in the normal game, but it can't be too hard; Try messing around with Sleep/Silence/Demi. You'd be suprised at how many bosses are vulnerable to at least one of those. And then there's Slow, which works on practically everything. Zoneseek helps a lot against magic bosses like this guy; when you fight big physical things like the SrBehemoth, remember to pull out Golem, Fenrir, and Phantom. These are general bosskilling tips that will actually aid you in most fights in the game, so keep them in mind. As far as the Storm Dragon goes in particular, scan him to find his weakness and then blast it. I know he had WhiteWind in EV2, but I don't think he does is normal FF6. Cyclonic is just a percentage based attack, so it won't kill you - however, be prepared to heal after getting hit with it. If all else fails, Bum Rush is brutal and easy to obtain, so just have Sabin repeatedly smash the thing and everybody else protect him. I guess you've already beaten this thing, but keep this in mind for future bosses. Don't use Vanish/Doom unless you want the game to get really boring. |

Yes, Vanish/Doom works. Next time, may I suggest you try a different strategy? Beef up the characters and blow him away with raw power. Umaro is your friend. |

Sorry about the double post. You guys can edit hte second one into the first one if ya want, since I can't delete my own posts and all.
Thanks for the replies... but yeah, I don't think I'ma actually get to a high enough level to beat the dragon normally... and I wanna see what happens after all the dragons are beaten. I read of another way that isn't as cheap as vaniash/doom. You use vanish on your team and use berserk on the dragon. (Yeah, I did get it from a FAQ at gamefaqs.com). I didn't use it, since I beat it with vanish/doom, but that sounds like a pretty cool way to beat'im. Thanks again ![]() |

For future reference, you actually CAN delete your own posts. Click the edit button, and a new delete button is available. But hey, since I'm here, I'll just go ahead and fix that right up for you, eh?
