Top 3 Games Of 2005
Which do you think are the best games from 2005? This includes all platforms. I'm curious to see what you guys come up with. Try to explain a bit about the game and why you think it's one of the three best of 05.
My top 3: #1: Resident Evil 4 (GC): Revolutionary game. It gave the RE series the facelift it was needing for sometime. The chainsaw guys seem to be a big hit among RE fans, enough to produce a chainsaw controller, anyway. This game, in my opinion dominated all others this year. # 2: Castlevania: Curse Of Darkness (PS2): Konami made this game just in time. Much better than Lament Of Innocence. I still miss Alucard, though. They need to bring him back. Anyway, the rooms and levels were much better this time around. Also, I'm glad to stray from the Belmont whip (at last). Great game. Go buy it. #3: God Of War (PS2): A suprise hit. Lot's of action, though reminded me alot of the Prince Of Persia series. This game was loads of fun, though there wasn't much replay value to it. Not too shabby for a new series debut, though.

I haven't really played that many games from this year. My list will most likely change as I haven't played the new Fire Emblem game and the new Elder Scrolls isn't out until December, but I'll put down what I have played.
Star Wars: Battlefront II ~It's what the first game should have been, and more. Age Of Empires III ~Always a good play, except fot the fact that they use the term 'German' instead of 'Prussian'. wtf? Soul Caliber III ~Adding a strategy style main story mode along with custom characters is pure genious.

1) Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube): One of the most compelling games I have ever had the honor to play. Deep and to the point, this game had me on the edge of my seat from the first encounter. Chapter 5-3 to the end are THE best chapters of the game, and the actions in those chapters alone more than make the game. Knife fight for the win. The detail in the interactive cutscenes, and the graphical splendor make this the BEST game of 2005.
2) Conker: Live and Reloaded (Xbox) Fans of the N64 game know how bad ass this game is. With the new added Live experience, and the redone graphics, its hella easy to come back to one of the greatest games ever concieved by a british dude. 3) Full Metal Alchemist ~And the Broken Angel (PS2) Since this is the 3rd game that I've played thats been released in 05 (I think I've only played these 3) this game is excellent. A good homage to the series that FMA has built up on, this game just plays to my liking, with the second game even iproving GREATLY on the game mechanics.

1. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance(Gamecube)- I just beat it last night. I'm a huge fan of the fire emblem series. Getting Ike and company to fight for the Princess. There's a sweet bunch of characters and with the support system they become better depending what other characters you use with them. Skills! Oh Skills how I love them too. Deffinitely the BEST game of '05.
2. Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube)- Surprised? You shouldn't be. This game stayed true to the Resident Evil I have fell in love with. The only bad thing....The PS2 version got new costumes and a weapon! ARGH! 3. X-men Legends II: Rise of Apocolypse-(Which ever system floats your boat) I loved it. One sweet multiplayer game. I was a fan of the first one and the second one out did it. There are plenty of characters in it to use. Me and my friends had some sweet teams. |

If it were for 2004 I could easily compile a list.... but a lot of recent events have kicked me out of the gaming market for 2005, and, quite honestly, there weren't many titles I was anticipating.
Off of the ones I've played for this year, however..... We Love Katamari comes in at my favorite game of this year. The graphics are fun and quirky, the game play is extremely simple and, underneath it, hilariously fun, and the music just adds to the quirkyness of this game. I play it and cannot help but laugh, no matter the mood I'm in, that's how great I've found this game to be. Who knew rolling up a cluster of souls could be so much fun? And now I have to leave, haha. I'll add two more at a later date. |

I really don't play that many games due to lack of money, but I DO have some favorites, of course.
Recently, I bought RE:4 for the PS2. It's already my favorite and I haven't even finished it yet. I broke my ten hour straight record (making it 18 hours in a row) and have to tear myself away from it every time. Sheesh. I haven't slept in days, I lost weight, stopped eating, I'm allergic to all my pets again because I've been away so long...nuff said. DMC3. You know Devil May Cry was originally a version of Resident Evil 4? They revamped it to DMC because it was too different to be a RE. Hm. Mr. Dante DOES have some rather similiar features to Mr. Leon sir. Anyhoo, I enjoyed this one plenty to have it stick in my memory. Short, but sweet. GTA: San Andreas. Okay, so I bought it for last year's Xmas...I'm only 6 days short. But still, it's a wicked game. I should really finish it someday. I lost interest in it months ago, which isn't too hot, but the other stuff I bought this year was either bad or insignificant. So there you have it.

I think the best 3 games of 05 are
RE4- I liked the first 3 RE games until it sort of became stale. Now everything is revamped, and you just have to love the killing, not to mention it came out on my birthday. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory- I love this game because it puts the intensiry into Splinter Cell that it was once lacking. The games were alwyas wonderful, but now that you can keep going after you've been discovered make this game a defenite jem Soul Calber III- I would say it's just the same game as last time which it is except for the ability to make a character and specify the way to how you want him. |

3. Half-Life 2 (X Box)
The PC game of 2004 just finally found it's way on to Microsoft's first console. As we all know, Xbox is severely underpowered compared to modern PCs. It only possessing a 733MHz Pentium III, 128MB of RDRAM, and a 64MB Ge Force 3, it can't compete with machines equipped with either an AMD Athlon 64 FX57 (or Intel's equivalent, the Pentium Extreme for that matter), 2GB of DDR2 memory, and dual 256MB GeForce 7800 GTSs. However, considering it is under powered, they managed to port it to the Xbox just fine minus some texture resolution reduction and slightly less smooth gameplay. However, if you have yet to play it on PC, the Xbox version will no doubt be a thrill with it's grade A physics not to mention an ass kicking arsenel. 2. Doom 3 (X Box) Another PC game that required some graphical reduction but turned out to be exceptional none-the-less. Nothing like the feel of chopping up some zombies with chainsaws or blowing up some imps with a rocket launcher. 1. Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits Von Gut und Bose (PS2) I cannot tell you enough how much I love this franchise. It's almost like taking the Anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, adding a little dash of Star Wars, and turning it into a quality turn based RPG. However, even describing it in such a manner does not do it any justice. Xenosaga, in my opinion, easily destroys Final Fantasy as the greatest turn based RPG ever. As for this particular sequel, while it did not quite live up to Episode I: Dur Wille zur Macht (one, it was too damn short and two, the battles were ridiculously hard), it treated loyal fans to vastly improved graphics. Graphics that are divine for a PS2 game. I almost thought I was playing on PC or X Box at first. The voice acting wasn't nearly as good nor was the music, but all in all it sufficed.

3. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - I love Castlevania games. Bringing Castlevania to the DS was a smart move. The game is classic 2-D Castlevania with good gameplay and some neat monsters.
2. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - One of my favorite tactical RPGs. The game pulled me in; after only renting it once. The characters and storyline are great and the battle system is easy, but can be complex. It is great! 1. Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube Version) - Yes! Give the GC some love! The GC version (even though it doesn't have the extra bosses and modes, which by the way, is bull, because the game wasn't even supposed to be ported, giving the PS2 extra stuff wasn't right) because there were no loading times, the graphics were slightly better and the sound was much better. The game was friggin' sweet! It was scary and awesome at the same time> |
