I don't know how much I can lean towards that since its been a year and a half since that info had been said. Since then Sony lost their on-board router, their E3 dev kits burned up (putting them in the same boat as MS, since they JUST got the final dev kits out) and personally they don't have much going for them, since Blu-Ray isn't the media standard (making their home DVD player thing not that good). Lets hope it will be region free, as it would seriously make up for alot of the negative things the system has going for it.

Let's see... Sony has just recently been caught with this
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1881592,00.asp http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4400148.stm and I heard they have announced how 100% of their future CD releases in Finland at least (since our laws will be changed to make it illegal to make backup copies of copyprotected discs) would be copyprotected. and I think they may be the only company nowadays (I think it's Columbia/Sony or whatever it is nowadays (the ownerships have switched recently I think)) to have RCE coding on some of their DVDs to prevent regular region free players from playing the movies. All this just makes me hard to believe they would be ones to remove region coding from PS3. Then again... it could happen. Personally I'd wish everyone would just start boycotting Sony (many already do, I think the negative feedback concerning copy protections was one of the reasons why they made this latest thing with their protections) until they stop messing with the consumers and their rights. Same with every damn company out there releasing copy protected CDs. |

Region free means "without regional lockout mechanisms." Microsoft is unclear whether the Xbox 360 will be region free. The advent of HDTV will put an end to regional lockout, because HDTV is a potential global region, replacing NTSC and PAL. I am opposed to regional lockout, and I am glad that Sony is declaring the PS3 a region free console.
