Best game series of all time.

What would you vote as the best game series of all time:

If i was to be asked this question i think i would have to say Final Fantasy because ever since it was released it sold millions and when FF 7,8,9 were released it became hard to buy the games because everytime you went in to a shop it was sold out. Damm i thought that was a pain in the ass.

I would have to say Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid pushes it all the way but Final Fantasy just wins because I always loved every FF game and there have been quite a few (compared to MGS only having three)

Final Fantasy of course and in my opinion, Devil May Cry series and the Silent Hill series! I spent all day playing Silent Hill 3 today and at the same time i was having heaps of fun and was scared as hell...

If you are looking at contribution towards gaming, then the absolute classics are the real foundations of the gaming industry.

Super Mario Bros.
Sonic The Hedgehog.
Tetras.
Space Inavders.
Pacman.

But since then, the games that seem to have cornered the market at some point are of course:

Doom
Final Fantasy
Resident Evil
MGS
Zelda
Halo (more recently)

So yeah... a brief but sound list of the greatest games ever (according to me anyway).

I'd have to say for RPG either Breath of Fire or Suikoden. Then the Tales Series, then Final Fantasy.

To me Breath of Fire just has a better overall Experience than a Final Fantasy, and nothing can stop Suikoden's style of story and its involvement with its mass amount of Characters. To me all Final Fantasies are now are Different Characters, Different World, Slightly different Story, Tons of Crappy or sub-par mini games. Don't get me wrong, FF is a good series, but it'll never come close to what Suikoden has provided for me.

For First Person Shooter I'd say Halo Series, Rare's FPS Duo (Goldeneye/Perfect Dark) and then Most Computer FPS games.

For Platformer, I'd say Mario 64 and Sunshine, and then any Rare game (Banjo-Kazooie, Conker) since I love what they put in the games.

I could go own but I have way too many games to count through.

Final Fantasy is the best video game franchise of all time. SimCity is my second favorite video game franchise, and then SaGa, and then Seiken Densetsu, and then Front Mission, and then Dragon Quest, and then Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem is a highly underrated game series, unknown outside Japan until after Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is the best Nintendo game franchise of all time. Super Mario, the game franchise I grew up with, is direly overrated, and Legend of Zelda is rather overrated.

Final Fantasy is too obvious. My choices will exclude it.

RPG: SW: KOTOR

RTS: Age Of Empires

Other Strategy: Civilization

Adventure: Zelda (RPG my ass)

'Point And Click' Adventure: Monkey Island

FPS: SW: Battle Front (close enough)

That'll do.

Final Fantasy would definitely be one of the best game series of all time. I also reckon the Grand Theft Auto series would be as well, they have been very popular and they're excellent!

Well, of course my answer is Final Fantasy, every part was at least interesting and had it's own X-factor. Seeing we are on a FF Forum my first choice isn't surprising now is it? Basicly if you liked a good story FF was the game for you (and still is).

Then there is old friend Mario. He started off as the hero in Donkey Kong, trying to save the girl. After that almost every game that included this tubby plumber became a best-seller, Square even united with Nintendo to make an RPG together. Any gamer wouldn't be a gamer if he hadn't played a Mario game, he's old, reliable and fun!

Another smasher is the Metal Gear Solid series. This game mad Hideo Kojima world-famous. And for a very good reason, the vibe of the game was always top-notch. You were alone, and had to eliminate or evade countless guards. Saying like this may seem simple, but the game proved differently. The story itself was also interesting, Kojima wanted to share his theory on the "real" USA. The way that the government would handle things etc. Both story and gameplay combined make this a A-Grade game.

Since the start of actual online-gameplay, there has been one game that inspired creative tacticians to grab the mouse and declare war on each other: Command & Conquer. This RTS was a great game for that time, and it kept renewing itself with newer versions, the latest being Command & Conquer Generals:Zero Hour. It's a game like that that mixes modern warfare with possible future events and good tactic gameplay. I have played this game for many hours, off- and online, and the game has proven himself legendary.

There are many, many games in the world but it is important for games to have depth. Almost every modern good game is a sequel, because they are more reliable, they learned from their mistakes, and are more appealing. A good game should never get boring, no matter how long you play it. That is why these games wrote their own history.....

Well, I am not going to narrow myself down to a single uber-cool game franchise because that is quite hard to do, since every game has it's own unique strong and weak points; to generalize the Final Fantasy as one series is also kind of hard since they differ so greatly. One more thing to note on my lists: the numbering is in no specific order since they all are equally good to me.

Oh and may I say that you have a very nice list there Jin.

Role Playing Game:
1. Final Fantasy
2. Persona
3. Chrono Series
4. Kingdom Hearts
5. Dragon Quest

Puzzle Adventure:
1. Monkey Island
2. Indiana Jones
3. Maniac Mansion (Day of the Tentacle)
4. Sam and Max

Run and Jump:
1. Sonic the Hedgehog
2. Mario

First Person Shooter:
1. Battlefield Series
3. Call of Duty
4. Brothers in Arms

Strategie:
1. Sid Meier's Civilization (is anybody as antsy for the 4th part's recent release as me *screams like a little school girl and faints*)
2. Hearts of Iron
3. Age of Empires
4. Warcraft
5. Heros of Might and Magic (Strategy RPG)

Other:
1. Grand Theft Auto
2. Silent Hill
3. Dynasty Warrior (will only stay on the list if they stop recycling the same stuff over and over again)
4. Resident Evil
5. Metal Gear Solid

Shit, that list is quite big. Way to go and narrow it down you moron (that was directed at myself for any that were wondering).
