Question vampire hunter d

i went to the video store and rented vampire hunter d: blood lust, only to find that it was the same movie i'd seen a thousand times, is my local blockbuster run by morons or is blood lust just a re-release of the original ?

There are two VHD movies. One is much older and really shows (but the characters really look more Amano-Esque IMO) The other one is much newer, slicker animation.

I hardly remember the first movie at all, but it's a completely different story, Bloodlust is a completely new movie.

2ndPower has levelled up - (lv 1)
The first movie was based off of the book Vampire Hunter D #1 which was written in Japan in the fifties, and was translated into english this year. As far as I know, Bloodlust had nothing to do with the guy that wrote the book series.

Personally, I found Bloodlust to be more entertaining, and flowed a lot better. The first movie kind of makes quite a bit of plot jumps, and the voices could be better, although it is worth checking out if you don't mind older movies.

I agree, Bloodlust was much better than the first one. It was difficult to get past the terrible voice acting behind D. I watched them for my first time back to back.

Now I want to watch Bloodlust. It's super good.

I own both, and I have to say both have good and bad points.

Vampire Hunter D pros:

Amano-esque looking, as was mentioned by Cain.
Truer to the Manga/Comic storyline.
Better plot than Bloodlust.

VHD cons:

Dated look.
Animation kind of choppy.
Magnus Lee looks like he's one year younger than God

Bloodlust pros:

Better animation
Better voice acting, especially D.
Nolt (guy with the cross tattooed on his face)
longer film than VHD.

Cons:
Meier Link (Whose full name is Oscar Meier Link Sausages.)
The silliness of the spaceship idea.
The characters are not "Amano-esque." (I'm starting to like that phrase!)

Anyway, keep in mind that these are just my opinions, and I love both movies.

I've only seen the first one, but I've heard about both. I thought the first one was pretty good. I didn't think it's the greatest thing ever, but I did find it entertaining. I've heard of the newer one, but I've never seen it. I may have to check it out one day though.
