Final Fantasy An Emotional Game...?

I just read an article describing a recent study concluding that video games can enduce emotions... in particular Role-Playing games topped the genres, but specifically Final Fantasy... I think we all know what would be the most emotional moment in the series (ff7), but if you want to read the study, I found it pretty interesting:

http://www.boomtown.net/en_uk/articl...ew.php?id=9304

If you haven't played FF7, there ARE spoliers ahead.

I for one, never get real emotional w/ video games... I can be a little empathetic, but I never cry or feel deeply saddened by a GAME. I guess I lack imagination or don't get too attached. Even in movies... It takes a lot to get me emotionally going.

I tend to cry every time i finish an RPG, in fact any game with a good story line which attracts me deeply and emotionly. I cried the most i think when i finished FFX... i dont really know why but i did, probably because of how everything ended and i couldnt belive it was over... and of course i was REALLY attached to the game in many ways, but now im happy there's a X-2! I find that i can get more emotional with video games then movies because these days i find video games with great story lines such as the FF series are more interesting and because your playing as the lead character so it feels like your in the game yourself...

Same here...
I get very attached to characters in RPG's and try to milk everything out of the game before I finish it, but still, once it's over you get a mixed reaction. 1. Yes, I beat that 40hr+ RPG
2. Dang, the game's over and I can't be with my favorite characters anymore.
Like FF7, I wish they'd make an RPG sequel (10 did not need a sequel)
but I am very happy about Advent Children.
Even if I don't like the particular game that much(FF9) I still get attached to the characters (Vivi)...

yeah i can completly agree with that, i was ever that big on the FFVII game but i really enjoyed the emotions of the chars, I really enjoyed FFVI for the emotions of all the chars, i mean like it is easy to tell theiremotions and all of them are strong. example locke really shows his feelings that he really wanted to be with ratchel or whatever and couldent get to bring her back to life for more then a few moments, were as you cant tell the emotions on games like hockey obviosly, I find most RPGs have emotions but a couple don't like Baulders gate 1 and 2

I've never cried over a video game, but I do agree that they stir up emotions. I remember when I was younger, the first Resident Evil (yep, the one that came in the first, big ugly PS1 game boxes) scared the hell out of me. When the lights would be off, I'd really dread going through the next door. *sigh* I wish they would have never made Outbreak...

But back to Final Fantasy. I think the only time that I got that choking feeling was after I got 100% and saw the ending on FFX-2. I think this is due to alot of different factors.

They gave us two games in which we can explore Spira from top to bottom. Hell, it got to the point where I knew my way around Spira almost better than I knew my way around my own hometown.

i do feel lonely sometimes when i finish a FF game or any rpg game, because after finishing a great game, its sad to leave the good characters, storyline, humor, and shocking moments in rpgs.

RPGs tend to arouse emotions mainly because people spend so much time with them.

Parasite Eve II, FFX and FFX-2 were the most emotional video games ever for me.

I never stop playing games because I don't like things to end. And I heart FF, I like most of the stories. Also, I forget pretty much everything that isn't stamped into my head constantly. For example, if I didn't play FFX for a year, I'd have forgotten the whole story, so to speak.
Probably why I never get bored with games either...I don't have a huge stack, but still keep playing and playing till my head falls off...which SHALL occur one of these days...

Final fantasy is like a part of my life.and every time i finish a series,i would wonder how the next serious would be like. Final fantasy is an emotional game , when i play it, i will have sad, happy and/or other emotions. At the end of every game of final fantasy,i will feel like crying because the ending is mostly sad.But i think thats kinda the reason i like to play final fantasy.

I always kept thinking to myself a game is just a game no use crying over it...but I can't help myself think about those events.....I guess I understand why most people cry...crying helps you release the pain from your heart...

I think My main reason fr crying at the end of some rpgs (mainly final fantasy) is because a character that i can relate to has something happen to them. And also because when something sad happens i think about what it would be like to be that person, even if they are from a game. I cried mostly during ffx coz it was just so sad what she said at the end!

the reason i get so broken up, when playing the final fantasy series is at the end all the charactors have to say good bye after the friendship that they created while they were on there journey.
