Final Fantasy Tactics - More?

I was thinking about how awesome Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1 was. The job changes, and the whole battle strategy set up. I was wondering, does anyone here ever think that they will make a Final Fantasy Tactics 2, for PS2? Anyone got any ideas on what it would be like if they did? I'm just curious, cause I emailed them with the idea - I thought it was pretty awesome.

I think that with PS3 coming out next year the time for a Tactics game for PS2 is not the best. A Final Fantasy Tactics for PS3 would be awesome though, the concept is way too good to be wasted on handheld consoles...

It's definately a good game. I'd agree with you that it's the best, but unfortunately, those who feel this way aren't as numerous as the hordes of rabid FF7 fanboys (and fangirls). I won't enumerate reasons why FFT is so obviously a better game (ducks thrown tomatoes - that was a joke!) but I think SquarEnix feels that FF7 spinoffs are more marketable at this point than more tactics RPGs. Pity that.

If you liked FFT, try some other games like Front Mission, Bahamut Lagoon (both of those also by Square), and Disgaea. Unfortunately, all of those fall victim to the curse of "entire-team-moves-at-once" that is, in my opinion, the worst idea ever in terms of game balance, as it means that my uberslow Summoner for some strange reason gets to move before your uberfast Ninja - in other words, completely takes the element of speed out of the game and instead gives a huge advantage to whichever team happens to go first.

There's also FFT:Advance. It's no FFT, but it's the only other tactics RPG that I've ever been able to get into (maybe because it's the only other "single-unit-moves-at-once" one I've played?). It's a bit easy and has horrible balance between the jobs, but at least it's nice in spirit.

As far as FFT2... I don't think it's going to be happening anytime soon. Believe me, I want it as much as you do if not more, but I try to be realistic about stuff like this. I sometimes think it'd almost be a better idea to try to make a FFT clone myself that I can then add features to... but that's a bit ambitious for me. Besides, even if I got a working battle system, I have no idea how graphics or anything else work...

If you're interested in this sorta stuff, there's something I've seen called customsrpg (if you wanna check it out, google for it and the webpage should come up). It's a project that is, in theory, designed to be an extensible strategy RPG engine (a la FFT)... but right now it's in its infancy, and there's only one dude working on it so it's unlikely to go that far anytime soon.

Yeah, I've heard some of those games. Maybe I'll try to email them again and see if they can come up with something more creative than the whole "party moves at once" theme.

A FFT for PS2 or PS3 would be awesome. I hope Square does make one.

I think its more like FFTA than FFT, With the characters and stuff, as far as St. Ajora, I don't think he's in FFXII, but then again I don't really know that much about the story.

Anyways,
Yes they do need a FFT2, which is probably the only FF spinoff I ever wanted, I don't want any more damn FFVII spinoffs, no FFVIII spinoffs, no FFVI or FFIV or ... ok you get the picture.

i want a moogle spin off, not like choco's dungeon though.. any who ffta was supposed to be pre ramza as well, with the moogle alive, and bunny women around, airships, and guns. And the reason i said the moogle alive is cause if you press select on that first forest it said now extinct moogles once lived here.

What? Are you forgetting perhaps the best tactical RPGs ever out there besides FFT in terms of storyline and battle mechanics? Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, and Tactics Ogre: the Knight of Lodis are awesome games, the pity of which there will be no more since Squeenix bought the rights for them. The other Ogre Battle series (March of the Black Queen and Person of Lordly Caliber) are awesome games, but the style of combat is different.

There's also the other Nippon Ichi Software games (Phantom Brave, La Pucelle Tactics, and Makai Kingdom), and the classic Shining Force and Fire Emblem series. Shining Force has some time out, the battle mechanic is simple and the story's kinda cheesy, but hey, I love that game. Fire Emblem isn't my particular type, but it has an engrossing story, and the battle mechanic, similar to Shining Force, is much simpler.

Anyways, with FFXII drawing nearer, we might not see a SE tactical RPG in some time. The Dev Team behind FFXII made the FF Tactics and the Vagrant Story games, in the same world and everything, so you can only expect they'll ask for some vacations before they make their next project. Hopefully, they'll make another FFT or even a Ogre game, seeing as NIS makes so wonderful games.

Plus, Disgaea 2 is set for release soon...

Whoa, seems I forgot. Though, the influence of the Tactics Ogre illustrations in FFT:A are quite evident. Contrast the human character sprites of FFT:A and TO:KOL, plus the map layout. That enough may give out an idea...

That said, more than a FFT sequel, I'd wish a sequel or prequel to any of the Ogre Battle series. Man, that game has an awesome story, and suddenly it remained just like that, in the air. The story of the Ogre Battle, or what happens after the events on the LUTC game would be well appreciated by me. A game that links the FFT, FFT:A, Vagrant and FFXII games would be awesome as well, since the games develop in the same world. All we know is that FFXII comes first, then FFT, then Vagrant, then FFT:A, if we use the hints given by the timeline established. There's a chance that all games are linked as with the "2001: Space Odyssey" books, where each book is an alternate dimension.
