Chronicles of Narnia
I just got finished reading the series and I must say I was quit suprised. I was always turned away because I thought they were a kiddy book but they were actually quite a good read. Anyone else read the series and enjoyed it?

It'd help if you would tell the rest of us what the series is about, for those that haven't heard of it before that may be interested to check it out.
Namely... me. =P

You disapoint me Shadow, you never heard of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The Narnia series is sort of the LOTR for young children in a manner. At least for me, it was what got me back to reading books again, after a tramatic time in second grade that made never want to read a book again.
It is about children that discover a gateway into a fantasy world where they get drawn in and become part of the world fighting within it. It has been a long time since I read it, and I have only read through the first book, despite me owning the whole collection. The only down side I had with it was that the characters change every book almost, as the children grow older that stop going to the world and new children friends them going inside. And anyone paying attention to the movies, should know about the movie they are making that is coming out. It being done by Weta, the people who did the special effects, creatures, etc for LOTR movies. Peter Jackson is not directing it though, he has King Kong.

the book series also had a religious allegory to it. You can see hints and clues of C.S. Lewis refering to the christian religion one way or another.

Yeah, C.S. Lewis tries to be clever and slip in deep meanings behind the facade of a children's tale. I read the entire series over the course of a month and a half when I was eight. My memory is failing me after 10 years but there are classic parts which I still remember and I am also aware of enjoying the series a lot. Unfortunately, I never did realize Lewis' allegories at that age.

Heh, he's not being very sneaky about it though. The story is nothing but a lighter version of the Bible; Aslan being sacrificed to save the world just when everyone had lost hope and thought themselves abandoned, the final battle between evil and good, the evil witch trying to ensnare innocent children etc etc. I could go on forever.
I loved the series when I was younger. Aslan was my hero and it was SO sad when the witch tied him to the stone table. I'll probably watch the movie when it comes out to refresh my memory.

C.S. Lewis definitely did put in several references to christianity....when your 6 or 7 and you have been told that it seems rather impressive until you get older re read the series and then realize it wasn't masked very well. Oh well still a good read.

Ooooh... that. Yes. I've definately read, and heard of that, and watched the cartoon movie of it. >.>
I didn't know it was called the Chronicles of Narnia, though. I just thought it was called 'The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe'. I'm definately going to see the Live Action movie of it when it comes out, how about anyone else?

The lion, the witch and the wardrobe is just a book in the series of 7.
I recently saw a preview for the movie and I'm glad that it looks like it had quite a budget and should turn out to be a good movie, deffinetely worth seeing. The last thing I saw about them was the crappy british tv show from the bbc.

I started this series last July, and finished the seventh book in late December. Fascinating tales, I must say. They're surprisingly easy to follow, despite the heavy descriptions, and I can't say I disliked a single chapter.
My favourite was either The Magician's Nephew or The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. |

I absolutely LOVED The Chronicles of Narnia. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was an absolutely brilliant novel. C.S. Lewis was completely and utterly great. I basically lived on this book as a kid...so, the entire series is just fabulous. ^_-
