I don't think that would exactly be a good idea. For one, many final fantasies take place in completely different time periods with very different stories. Also, a longer game is not exactly better, if it's too long, many people will get bored with it and if it is too short, people will think that it wasn't too well done.
Actually, there is one way that I just thought of that it could be done AND be explained storywise, the time-compression from FFVIII. Still, it doesn't seem like there could be much of a story after the explanation, it would be hard to make a good story unless everyone forgot everything and didn't know that time was compressed. Anyways, I think that it is not a good idea to really do that...

Most FF's tend to have a character count of around 10 anyway (FFIV has 12), and thats quite alot when you put it into the limelight. adding more characters from other games is just, damn, overcrowding the room you know?
EDIT: Oh, and try to put more content into your posts, they are rather spammish.

Maybe if they can make the game longer they might want to consider doing that sort of thing and I think final fantasy iv doesn't have enough characters and if they did do it more people would like it better.

FFIV doesn't have enough characters? That's crazy talk. FFIV is second only to FFVI when it comes to the number of characters, as FFVI had fourteen. Granted, you don't have access to all twelve characters once you've initially retrieved them, but that doesn't change the fact that there are still twelve.
I can't think of any way that you could add more characters to FFIV without ruining the story. If you want a game that could really use more characters, look at FFX-2. You get three. Sure, it was a sequel, but it wasn't a bad game overall. But just three? Yeah, there are plenty of other FF titles that could benefit from an extra character or two, but I personally don't see how this is one of them. |

Yep, gonna have to agree with everyone else here, there's really just no room in FFIV for more characters. I mean, as it is, the story is already fairly complicated without adding in extra stuff. Like Dawezy's mentioned before, the Dark Knight section of the game could've been a good bit longer, but other than that, meh, FFIV still stands as one of the top 3 FF's out of all of them.

Well I, still think that ffiv needs more characters, because at the last part of the game you only had five, can't they add a character switch to ffiv and the extra characters could wait at mystia.

Ehhh....no...that would ruin part of the game in all honesty. Plus those last 5 were your most powerful five anyway. The twins were ok, but they lacked power compared to Rydia and Rosa's spells last I checked, and their Twin abilities did not make up for Rydia's Calls. Yang can't really beat out Edge, for damage, and he doesn't quite have the power to match Edge's throwing skills either. No one can really replace Cecil (except for perhaps DRK Cecil) and for absolute sheer one-shot physical damage, you can't outdo Kain's Jump. Tellah? Dead. FuSoYa? Knocked out at the start of the fight anyway. Cid? Pffft, hammer away all day? No thanks. So seriously, you were already given the better choices anyway. ^^

Sabin, that was an almost exact copy of what you said above. We know what you think, but we're just stating our opinions.
The main thing is, how could the characters fit in storywise? In FF6, all the characters that you played as had some sort of their own storyline, or seemed to have a hidden one(Gogo/Umaro, perhaps...). In FF7, the two hidden characters had a background that fit in well with the story. In FF8-10, there were no hidden characters, all of them played a part in the story, some more than others. FF11, well...that's a different story... The only way they could really put more characters in is to redo at least one part of the storyline so they'd fit in, and that would take awhile to do, they'd have to make new sprites, new character animations, and add length to the game, which takes a deal of programming, and programming things sometimes takes awhile. Please stop repeating what you're saying and try to add more content.

Ok, Sabin. I have tried to be understanding, but all I can see that you want, from the threads you've made here, is for FFIV to be mechanically identical to FFVI or VII. I have two responses to this concept (aside from NO!):
1) It's never going to happen. Square seems happy to reinvent their systems with each new game and I doubt they are 'disappointed' with the mechanics of FFIV. 2) The suggestion that FFIV is somehow lacking without the 'cell phone' or the 'airship with dozens of extras' is offensive to fans of the game as is. To make these suggestions in the first place is going to put you at odds with many purists from the beginning (which, I'll admit, I wouldn't prefer IV over any following games if I wasn't a bit of one). To follow up by not supporting your thoughts with anything more than "I think it because I think it" is just going to get more harsh feelings coming at you. So, take some time, reply with the meaty parts of your brain and give us some ideas about what you would like. Would you like Yang to reinvent his fighting style, gaining new options? If so, what would his motivation be? What would the new option be? Would his sprite change? Would you like the twins to be revived, having undergone a spiritual journey while stone? And for your 'hidden characters' what is their connection? A lost Lunarian? Cecil's father? An expert scout from the Kingdom of Baron's golden years? What are their skill sets? What is their motivation? Why are they as kick-ass as the main characters? Food for thought... try and give us some if/when you post again. Last edited by Vidihawk; 08-31-2005 at 08:00 PM. |
