Overpowered characters (WARNING: Possible spoilers)
This thread is mostly me just being silly... it's hard to fairly compare characters across games. However, go ahead and post something here if you feel you have something interesting to say.
So onward with the question... who is the most overpowered playable character in a Squaresoft game? By overpowered, I mean relative to other characters/enemies in his/her game. Also, note that I'm not including temporary playable characters (Leo, Sephiroth, Beatrix) because they're obviously amazing and temporary for a reason. The options are... 1) Orlandu (FFT) - I don't think this man needs an introduction. He's the weapon-breaking, life-draining, faster-than-a-ninja, more-HP-than-a-knight, equips-any-sword-in-the-game Holy Swordsman who can beat almost any mission in the game solo with ease. 2) Squall (FF8) - Aura + Lionheart = HOW many 9's??? About the only thing your other characters are good for is sitting around making sure Squall remains hasted/auraed. 3) The Dog (Secret of Evermore) - An interesting candidate? Think about it... in its final form, the dog deals 1500+ damage with charged attacks (while the boy is doing about 300), has awesome range, flies, runs insanely quickly, and has defense through the roof. The boy's only job is to keep it energized/healed. 4) Amarant (FF9) - He may not be obviously broken, but he is amazing anyhow. Good attack and magic power, access to really good abilities, can cast Auto-Life for very little MP, and if MP ever becomes an issue for your party, he can restore it (even his own) and get HP back at the same time! 5) Other? What do you think? |

By mostly obvious reasons, Orlandu, followed closely by the Dog. Orlandu incredibly drops the difficulty of FFT once you get him, and he kills almost everything the game pits against him. And the Dog? Completely dwarfs the boy's attack power, and the little bugger knows how to charge properly. I do not find Squall overpowering: of course Aura + Lionheart is overpowering, but by the time you receive it... the only redeeming factor is his perfect Accuracy rating (255%? How can that be possible?).
As for other overpowering characters...maybe FFT:A's Cid is overpowering as well. It doesn't have incredible attack skills, but it makes Judges skip one turn, meaning everybody can violate the laws in the game. Plus, he can destroy some violations as well. Can't think of others for the moment, though I wonder...can games from before the Square-Enix merger count? 'Cuz Valkyrie Profile has some overpowering characters. |

AAAARGH! It's times like these I WISH I had FF Tactics. So I can't say anything about Orlandu, but I DO know that if you had the Lionheart in FFVIII, the whole game could be played through with your pinky toe.
I managed to get the Lionheart on Disc 1, you can imagine the how the rest of the game was... So yeah, in my opinion Squall was a 'little' overpowered. And if anyone can help me to get FF Tactics, even on an emulator, so I can clear that game too, cuz it sounds really good. Thank you in advance... |

Amarant
1)Amarant
well i i don't know who the dog is and i have never played FFT even tough i wish i had, of the FF games i thought the most overpowered was Amarant. Amarant had the least abilities at the end, and the weakest attack power (If I had learned the abilities beforeKuja then he would be ultimate but i didnt and he still overpowered Zidane, when he was lower level. 2)Zell I found even with lionheart i still was doing more damage with Zell, ultra cheap with my ability of duel, overpassed squall's lionheart. 3)Edgar (If you haven't noticed i have weird selections). I had great damage on Edgar, greatly followed by Gogo, Sabin and Cyan(magically Cyan learned Ultima without the Ragnarok summon i picked the weapon) |

inferno mage you can get a cpy of fft of ebay for bout £14 but its an american version so unless you got your ps1 chipped then there's not much you can do cuz it was only released in america. On topic i'd say squall was definatly the most powerfull he just beat everyone it'd be good if he wan't so powerfull because it makes it kinda easy. i haven't played on fft yet (just ordered can't wait!)

any of the FF-X playable characters with multi-hit overdrives..obviously games that include overkill characterize overpowered-ness...'specially when getting to Jecht...throughout the game not so sure but X definitely has the most overpowered characters i've seen....

Orlandu by far. He's so good that he will make your other characters level up drastically slower than usual if not approaching battle in a bit of a quirky way.

i agree, its orlandu. Once you get him in the game you really dont have a problemfor the rest of the game. I mean his sword abilities are 10x better than any other sword knight like agrias for example. She takes at most 170 with statis sword and orlandu takes about 500

yeah that'll happen if you don't lvl your own characters. but limit breaking defines overpowered...but yeah if you just play the game lvling only a little every now and then on your own to progress throughout the game then sure, Orlandu is pretty opposition-eliminating..

I think the best overpowered character in my opinion would have to been Squall. His Lionheart could do plenty of damage to one enemy. It came in handy up against Ultimecia/Griever. Aura was a great spell since you could use limit breaks for a specific amount of time. I could get about three or so limit breaks within one spell. His Lionheart could do about 9999 x 16 (or something like that).
9999 x 16 = 159984 The only down side to Lionheart is that it is a random move. He only does it every so often. I have had a bit of luck while playing where he uses it two in a row or so. Sorry for the math lesson lol. ![]()

Haha there's really no question here. Orlandu with no question. He's uber powerful, and destroys everything. Even though you get him in chapter 4 he makes that final chapter sooooo easy. I really can't stress how easy he makes the game. I think it's good though, it's like you earn him for all your hard work.
