Cid (spoilers ensue, perhaps)

La la la. So I've been playing FF6 again, after about a year of not having played it (and really like 3 years since I actually seriously played it; last time I played it, I played it off and on for like a year, and only got to the Magitek Factory.) But anyway...

This time, I've been trying to do the things I didn't do before. Like, I never saw all of Shadow's dreams before (I don't think.) I also watched Setzer's cut scene after the espers knock it out of the sky in Vector (the one where he talks about Daryl.) This time, I even went through the trouble of making sure Cid stayed alive at the beginning of WoR.

Keeping Cid alive was a pain in the ass. It was like the game wanted him to die, or something. On most visits to the beach, I'd only find "just a fish," "rotten fish," or no fish at all. I'd save every time Cid's condition got better, and in this way, after like an hour and a half, the old fart FINALLY got better. However, I noted that Cid surviving is much less of a dramatic scenario than Cid dying... so yeah. I think it's pretty much not worth the trouble, probably. Seeing Celes jump off the cliff was one of the things that touched me the most the first time I played this game (the fact that it was like 1 in the morning when I first saw it probably amplified the emotions even more.)

So, is it worth it to keep "Grandad" Cid alive, in your opinion? Is there something about keeping him alive that I don't know about, like, does it change the events of the rest of the game at all, or something? Did you find keeping him alive a lot easier than I seemed to have found it? And stuff.

...well...?

Well, I've gone through and both saved him, and accidentally let him die, but ehh...other than being able to go back and talk to him, I can't remember if it really does anything to the game. Ya know...that's got me kinda curious now that it's been mentioned. O.o

Well, I do seem to remember him saying that he wanted to meet all the team when Celes found 'em, so I'd recommend going to the island once you find 'em. It's more like Gau's scene: a cameo. Or so I think.

I never knew that it mattered whether Cid lives or dies, because as far as I can tell, nothing different happens one way or the other. I've done it both ways, and I never found any real benefit to keeping the old fart alive, other than the satisfaction that you're damn good at catching fish with your bare hands.

yeah there was no reason to keep Cid alive. but most of us did it anyway. Why?

because we are RPG perfectionists. However the first time i played through i lost Shadow, the second time i was able to keep him alive. his dreams were quite interesting.
