Neon Genesis Evangelion Anyone?

Yes--gosh, yes!

Anyone who's been here long enough to know me probably knows that Evangelion is my favorite anime out there. Everything from its storyline to its music and its oh, so intriguing religious symbolism had/has me hooked. I'm currently re-buying the series' Platinum Edition release, but I own the series on DVD already (plus the movies and plus the two Director's Cut DVDs).

I'm currently buying the manga. I'm not current with it; I'm planning on buying vol. 6 tomorrow or Monday if all goes as planned (there are currently 9 out so far). I like how its starting to diverge from the anime. It'll give me some unexpected surprises

I have a love/hate relationship with that anime, even though It's probably the main reason I like anime.

I loathe the End Of Evangelion, utterly.
Once you get your head around the head****ery (I refuse to call anything on that movie Philsophical, they must have been ****ed out of their trees on drugs when they made that) you realise that not only does the ending imply a sense of cruelty, it also stands in my mind as one of the most godawful depressing endings of all time.
It also implies "YOU PAID FOR THIS! MONEY! MONEY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN SPENT ON SOMETHING GOOD!"
"Death" was fantastic. Ace soundtrack, and yadda yadda yadda.
"Rebirth" was ok
"End Of" ARRRGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The series is cool though, bar the last few episodes.


EDIT: i'm only going off what a friend has told me- The manga is depressing. Like 1984 depressing.

I havent watched the anime but i have read the first 2 volumes of the manga and i must say, they were extremely good im looking forward to the next volumes i have to read.

I liked NGE, but I found the first couple of episodes to be rather slow moving. Odd considering that it isn't a very long show. I remember times in which I thought my DVD player was frozen because of how long they would sit on a single seen lol.

It was however, a good show when it got moving and then somehow died at the end. In other words, the middle pwns, especially when you start to find out things but before they ruin it with the shitty ending.

With NGE I prefer the final movies. I love psychological stuff and this beat most stuff out there. In fact, there's not many at all that even comes close. But, I love most anime/manga so, I'm fine anyways ^^;
As for the NGE manga, I've never read any of it. Actually, I don't think I will either, considering of what I like most of NGE.

Damn i loved every episode of NGE.... while it lasted...
"Unfortunatly" i live in Portugal, and the only Anime/Manga that lasted here, was/IS DragonBall (4th time btw, the Z series ( i want GT ))
Eva lasted for a while... but I WANT MORE!!! MOOOOOOOOORE!!!!

Evangelion is definately one of the greatest animes ever created. The whole series even the movies were spectacular. The character development was superb, the soundtrack awesome. If there ever was a debate over strongest mech ever. Unit 01 is the answer.

Gendo is my guess. That's only speculation based on what Kaji said before the gunshot.

NGE kicks all ass. Period. The series can be confusing as hell, I have to admit that much, and it's definitely a mental**** but then, a lot of series now days are going for that type of confusion, but very few have managed to pull it off quite the way that Eva did. I d/l'ed (I'm poor, hoping to get the box set here soon though. ) the entire series, including the movies, and what started all of that is one tape out of the series that I got from a friend of mine.

Gotta love Asuka, and the music in the series is just about perfect...except Asuka's theme...gah, I hate that damned song!

RahXephon is a superior series to NGE, I think there was better control of the plot and the speed. Though Its hard t ignore certain things from NGE that influenced RX.

Have you ever watched NGE?????? It doesn't get more ****ed up than that. The plot rocked (series and movies). How many other series can make you trip and youre not even doing acid?

EVA has a fog factor thats unnessisary. I realize that the creator was working through his own problems during the series creation and its obvious he was using the series to work them out.

Rah has a trippyness that guided with absolute control (at least the TV version)

I'm not saying EVA is bad its just that Rah reached a more polished level

I just watched the series during the last few weeks for the first time ever. Very good stuff. Deep, intense character development and heavy Christian symbolism. I watched EoE as well which is pretty damn cool, too.

I definitely want to go back and watch it all again to get some of the subler points.
