April 2005 TOA application/character thread

What do I want from you? Three things, and that's it.

fragdemon, you're guaranteed a slot as the defending champion, but I'd at least like numbers one and three from you.

1. A reason why you think you should be here. I want dedicated people.

2. Links to (or attachments of) at least one sample of your writing. RPBs are preferred, but samples of RP or some other form of writing will be accepted as well. Just make sure it's some of your better work if you wanna make an impression.

3. A detailed character description. Biographies are not required, but won't be held against you. Honestly, they probably won't even be looked at in terms of whether or not you get one of the eight spots. They will, however, be referred to when judging your threads.

Also, if you're asked to change something, don't argue, and please just make the necessary changes. A moddish character won't be allowed, so I want to avoid those at all costs. Be sure you're clear on the rules before you create a character which would break them.

And PLEASE, go read the "April/May 2005 TOA?" thread for an overview of the setting for this season's tournament.

Weapons: All he uses are his fists and feet and legs, and so on.
Attacks: Well, he uses a special martial art technique called "Hell's Fury" it consists of his fists, and them hitting the opponent so hard, that they receive burn marks on their bodies.
Abilities: Well, he has a split personality that calls himself Cyrus. Cyrus is a ruthless killer and does not give any mercy. When Cyrus battles using "Devil's Fury" his attacks do much more damage and leave deeper burn marks on his opponents.
Background: Ken had been in the streets nearly all his life, his parents were killed in a car accident and he survived, but at a cost. His brain was damaged, so therefore it gave him the effect of a split personality. Whenever he was in that state of mind, he would wake up with blood on his hands, or with a gun in his pocket. He did not know why, but he assumed with being drugged or something. But as he grew older, he started to hear this coice within the depths of his mind.

Weapons: None. She makes them on her own

Magic: non elemental space and time manipulation. Wielder of a parallel universe that was made of pure energy of unknown nature.

Affiliation: None

Appearance: Usually seen wearing a long black cloak that covers her entire body. Never felt the need to remove it for battle.

Background:
The dark force within Mina (my other character) was finally able to separate itself as a living entity- using Mina's life essence and ability to control the elements (to create 'life'). Roma has an uncanny resemblance to Mina but with different hair and eye color. Their personalities are not exactly the opposite but Roma has a cold, empty streak in her which is in contrast to Mina's sometimes playful nature.

History:
Living in and controlling a universe of pure power and nothingness,this dark entity searched for a purpose and saw our world as nothing more than a playground. It found Mina as an interesting host but failed to take full control of her. This gave Mina the ability to sometimes use this parallel universe to attack her opponents (as she did True Omega vs Quistis fight). Tired of being kept inside like a prisoner, the entity was able to find a way to separate itself from Mina -by creating 'life' in that dark dimension using Mina's own life essence and element manipulating powers (Mina was unaware of this). And thus, Roma was born. Enjoying the new sensations as a normal human would- Roma felt that her transformation was not yet complete until she kills Mina and take the rest of her life essence and Mina's powers all to herself.

History: A homeless boy wandering the streets, Gambit was adopted by Jean-Luc LeBeau, head of the council of the Thieves Guild, a criminal organization based in New Orleans. As part of a peace pact between the Thieves Guild and their rivals, the Assassins Guild, a marriage was arranged between Gambit and Bella Donna Boudreaux, the granddaughter of the head of the Assassins. However, Bella Donna's brother Julien objected to the marriage and challenged Gambit to a duel. Severely wounding Julien, Gambit was forced to flee New Orleans to prevent war between the two guilds.

Gambit wandered the world as he plied his skills as a master thief, aided by his mutant power to charge objects with explosive energy. He employed playing cards he charged with kinetic energy as his trademark weapon. At one point Gambit agreed to assemble the team of assassins called the Marauders for Mister Sinister. Gambit did not realize that Sinister would employ the Marauders to massacre the underground mutant community called the Morlocks.

Eventually, Gambit encountered the X-Man Storm, who had been transformed into an amnesiac child and who had turned to theft. He helped her escape her enemy, the Shadow King, and they became partners. Later, when Professor Charles Xavier returned from a long period of traveling in outer space, Storm, having regained her memory and true age, sponsored Gambit's admission into the X-Men. Gambit has remained on the team ever since and fell in love with his fellow X-Man Rogue. Recently, however, Gambit and Rogue have grown apart. As for Bella Donna, she has become Gambit's enemy. Recently, the X-Men learned of Gambit's role in the massacre of the Morlocks. Guilt-ridden, Gambit has left the team, at least temporarily.

In the alternate future in which the X-Man Bishop was born, Gambit has become an aged figure who witnessed the betrayal of the X-Men by one of their own members. Bishop suspected Gambit was the traitor until he learned how Xavier's mind spawned the malevolent entity Onslaught.

Weapons:
-The Malevolence: An enormous retractable adamantine-mithril alloy sword, Malevolence is Taere's weapon of choice. He has modified his Isparian Armor to hold this sword in a compact sheath. The blade can flow and liquify to be stored in a reservoir in the hilt, which is then clamped to the sheath. The edge of the blade is coated in chorizite*, an anti-spiritual, anti-magical mineral than eliminates any momentum provided by ki or any magical effect it comes into contact with. The sword has a pommel jewel inscribed under the gem's surface with the image of the Red Dragon, the crest of his family. The creature was intricately carved into the gem using extremely delicate and precise tools, and then filled with liquified ruby to emboss the creature into the blue sapphire. The dragon has the head of any normal Dragon, but its wings are covered in crimson feathers, and its body is covered in intricate scales engraved with runes and symbols of ancient magic.
-Gauntlet Blade: A retractable blade in the left gauntlet of Taere's Isparian Armor. This blade is also being constantly sharpened when retracted in the same manner as Malevolence.
-Flashbang: A diversionary device, the Flashbang is fired off near an opponent, and creates a loud noise (300 dB) and a blinding flash (1 million candela), throwing off and confusing Taere's enemies.

Armor:
-Isparian Battle Armor: This suit of support armor is composed entirely of adamantium, and is virtually indestructible. The suit houses many battle support systems, including the gauntlet blade on the left arm.
-Support Systems:
--Blacksun Filter: A scope device, the Blacksun Filter gives vision in either infrared, ultraviolet, or light minimalization. The light minimalization option is enbabled when the Flashbang is fired (see above). The Blacksun filter is implanted in Taere's left cornea (eye's lens) like a permanent contact lens that refreshes itself with natural tears.
--Multitracker: A function of the Blacksun Filter, the Multitracker's HUD can track and designate over 5 targets at once.
--Grappling Blade: The gauntlet blade can spring out - along with two other blades attached to it - from the left gauntlet attached with a monofilament mithril cable and magnetic reel, and be used as a grappling hook to retract Taere up to a ledge, or to pull an opponent towards him and impale them at the same time.
-Gauntlet Blade: In addition te being usable as a weapon and a grappling hook, the Gauntlet Blde, when fully extended, can expand and wrap around iself to become a large adamantine shield with chorizite* laced into the joints of the shifting plates of the buckler.

Spells:
The Malevolence can channel limited elemental energies such as basic fire, water, earth and air, and can also combine basic elements, such as earth and water to create acid, or fire and wind to create a firestorm. These powers are limited, and can only create small effects, such as a thin layer of ice on the ground or a coating of acid on the crystal blade of the Malevolence itself.

Techniques:
-Overflow: The exhaust ports on the Isparian Armor flare with intense heat and excess plasma, releasing a purge of the system, a full plasma fission explosion.
-Frenzy: Taere falls into a state of uncontrollable rage, a berserk state that lasts until the enemy that has reduced him to a beaten frame has been annihilated.
-Grapple: Taere launches his grappling blade at his opponent, impaling them, or at least pulling them towards him onto the waiting point of the Malevolence.
-Spearhead: Taere extends his Gauntlet Blade to its full length, and jumps high into the air, and dives, impaling his enemy with the blade.

*Chorizite - A synthetic and naturally-occuring magic-neutralizing mineral. Chorizite is a super-high-temperature mixture of sapphire (superheated natural ore), titanium baride (high-temperature reactive, self-replenishing alloy), and magnesium diboride (superconductor, dissipates ethereal and electrical energy at low temperatures)

EDIT: Background Information:
Taere fled from Duran's destruction at the age of 18. After this, he wandered rather aimlessly for 2 years until stumbling upon a cave in the Eldûl Igen wherehe encountered a nest of Dragon Eggs. Unknowingly Linking a Dragon to himself, he walked from the foothills to Ansar Aerie whilt eh small red beast he named Augheryd flitted about his head. When he rached Ansar, he was immediately enstated as a Rider, and trained while Augheryd came of size to be ridden. When he was 24, after three years of service, Augheryd, for showing courage in battle was granted the honour of being Argentized, and was Silvered in a grand ceremony (as all Argentizings are). Taere was promtly voted Sky Captain, to serve as leader of the Aerie for a term of five years. A year later, however, after getting into a major ethical argument with the other Argent Sky Captains, Taere granted himself leave from the Aerie, replacing his position with one of his advisors, Krackon. Since then, the events of CHIMERA occurred, leaving Taere in a position of homelesness again until the Aeries could restructure themselves. He was alright for about a year, but proceeded almost a year to the day after the Ansar Incident to have quite the row with Alexia, and wandered off into the South Fire Wastesands again. He has only recently returned from this self-imposed exile, and really has nothing better to do than to start earnign a living againt at doing what he does best - fighting.

Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum: The Dirty Harry gun. ____ bought it specifically because of it's association with the icon. Engraved along the barrel are the words: "I am not compensating for anything."

Knife: Bought in an army surplus store. The weapon he'll actually be bringing into the fight (perhaps he'll bring in his gun unloaded).


Armor: All of his clothes are basic clothing. He wears different clothes depending on the day... but he looks silly in a suit.

In combat, he does not wear long sleeve shirts.

His skin is tough. Naturally resistant to heat and as tough strong animal hide when it comes to being cut.


Spells:
He can channel fire... sorta kinda. Because he's a sorceror, he's always had a knack with fire. But he's never really honed it as well as he should have. His gun was always sufficient... up until the TOA.

Techniques:
- He's surprisingly agile for his build, but not as agile as someone like... Gambit.
- His use of fire is terribly limited. More often than not, he can't even produce flame, just manipulate already existing ones. For that purpose he has his handy dandy lighter.
- When he doesn't have a gun, he usually carries a knife or surrounds both hands with a very small flame. Sometimes his hands are surrounded with flame even when he has the gun. The flame itself is no stronger than 15 or so birthday candles... meant to augment, not particularly damaging on their own (unless of course he holds onto you... that'll suck).
- As of this storyline, he's working on coming up with his own abilities.

Background Info:
He's a mercenary, but not the stealthy sort. He's very overt. Mob bosses hire him with the knowledge that he'll make a mess... this way his targets know for a fact they did something very wrong.

Depressingly enough, his services are only becoming more in demand rather than less.

His childhood is a series of stupid mistakes started off by some bad luck: If he was born into richer parents, he could've gone into a private school for sorcerors. But instead, his magic abilities went untrained in an inner city school, where his abilities were met with superstition and fear.

He joined a gang mostly composed of other poor sorcerors... a total of 7 members. By the time he quit highschool, all of them had died.

After failing to clean up his act numerous times, he ended up tangled with the mob until he got a chance to kill his way out... he did. This set events into motion which would eventually lead him to where he is now.

If I don't have two more people by the 30th, we don't have a tournament.

Find people. Get recruits. Pressure old members to come back. Get new kids with decent skills. They don't have to be experienced. SOMETHING. ANYTHING. They don't even need samples of their writing.

I'm not delaying this tournament though, because I won't be around in June. We either have people for this one, or there's no tournament until the end-summer in July. And that one will require all new characters, as it's a completely different environment altogether.

If it's used in any of the battle posts, whether it's fired off or used like a club or anything (because even that would be acknowledging that it's a legal weapon when it isn't), the proper disqualifications will be applied.

1) Loco sent me the link to it, and 'hinted' that I should join, and I've always thought of myself as a decent Role Player. So, naturally, I decided to give it a shot.

2) Oronid's Despair - This says that "Prince of Goon" posted it, but he indeed did not. He has a disclaimer at the top. I askedh im to post it at those forums as I was no longer active and they wanted to continue the role play. That is indeed my own work. The first post only.

3) -- Character Profile --

Name: Gerrard Narid
Species: Homo Sapien
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Physical Appearance:
Gerrard Narid is your typical guy. He is a moderate 5'11", weighing 194 pounds, with brown hair, blue eyes. He has a sturdy build, but by no means is he 'built', nor is he 'weak'. Gerrard has an offwhite skin tone. His only real defining mark is that he has rugged good looks and great hair.

Equipment:
Gerrard uses what he has salvaged in his time working as an archaeologist.

Hand weapons: He uses only one 17th Century Spanish sword adorned with gorgeous emeralds and exquisite rubies. The bottom-most sector of the hilt holds a ring of diamonds. This sword was crafted by the greatest Smiths out of an unknown medal. The middle appears to hold cross-variant of steel and gold. This cross has been referred to as Mithril, but the knowledge is unknkown to this point.

Body: Gerrard doesn't believe in using heavy armors and as such only wears an inforced leather chestplate underneath his casual shirt. It won't ward off all damage, but it will signiifcantly absorb attacks.

Fighting Style/Techniques:
Gerrard generally does not use his sword as he has been trained in several forms of hand to hand combat, including stylistic Shao Lin Kung-Fu, He only uses his sword when in dire need of extra power.

Gerrard is a master of Chi management and uses the Inner Power to exert extra damage

--Techniques
-----Powered Soul
Gerrard focuses energy into his fists using Chi management and exerts that built up energy into a combination of 4 quick jab punches.
-----Merrat's Reaver
Merrat, before he passed, taught Gerrard one very useful sword skill that uses Chi energy to temper the blade. The blade, almost as if it acts on it's own pulls the user up and back down in the blink of an eye. The biggest flaw is that you have no control over accuracy. Pure zen.
-----Chipalm
The only other technique Gerrard uses is entitled Chipalm. Gerrard channels Chi energy into his fists once more, as he does in Powered Soul, however, this is one solid palm-press directed at an opponent's chest. Slow moving, slow to 'charge', but effective if it lands.

Backrground Info:
Gerrard spent his early years interested in Ancient History, particularly of the Roman and Grecian empires and his biggest aspiration was to be an archaeologist. Gerrard had a normal childhood, sans the fact that his father was a dedicated martial artist and forced him into Ninjutsu at a young age. Gerrard enjoyed the style, but felt as though the art of Ninjutsu was not for him and pursued other forms.

Merrat, a close friend of Gerrard who shared the aspiration of archaeology, teamed up with Gerrard in their mid-teens to participate in the Iron Fist tournament. Gerrard and Merrat won by a landslide in the doubles and tied for first (by points) in singles.

Gerrard, at year 25, became an archaeologist and found many rare items. His most prized possession being Roberto Eiromento's famed blade. Gerrard uses it at his side as to keep history alive by his own fighting skills. Soon thereafter Merrat was assassinated by a mercenary who was trying to keep a family secret from long ago under wraps. Merrat and Gerrard uncovered a key item to the solution of many great murders... The Blade of Roberto Eiromento.

After losing his friend, Gerrard vowed to obtain revenge on the lone assassin by honing all of his Martial Art skills. Then he heard about the Tournament of Arms... The perfect place to test his training.

Why should I be here?
Before I became an inactive member a few months ago, I had been a very dedicated member of the RP threads and I liked to have a good battle every now and then. I realize that I have been inactive, but I have been thinking about coming back every now and then and continued to RP in BDAL: Evolutions, until Trigon closed the thread. Even though I became inactive here doesn't mean I stopped writing. I think I've built my skills up even more now and I'd be ready for this. I hope to have a good battle if I'm accepted to do this. I do understand that me being inactive so long will knock against me, but I really do want to get back into the swing of things here.

BDAL3 - Evolutions (Invite Only) - BDAL3: Evolutions. Was an ongoing series that I have been apart of since the original in 2001 (2002 maybe?). But this is what helped me stay in writing for so long.
