*Puts on new shoes*...*Sprints*
In case the title of the thread is not obvious enough, I am talking about the Sprint Shoes. We all know what they are and what they do, right? After all, the person at the Relic Shop in South Figaro shows them off before you can even browse the wares at that shop. I've been wondering, how many of you actually USE the shoes anytime after the first part of the game (in other words, after you can get more than those first few, crappy relics)? I know they have times when they may be useful, such as at the Opera House when you must reach Ultros in under five minutes, but the PSX version effectively eliminates the need for those with the addition of a "Dash" button.
So do you use the Sprint Shoes at all, and if so why do you use them? Are there any other relics YOU think are as worthless as the Sprint Shoes? Are there any "hidden" relics that really work well for you? Don't answer with an obvious Offering or Economizer or I shall send you a Pie...OF DOOM!

Hmmm... I use the Sprint Shoes all the time. Why are they so worthless? They get you from place to place quicker than if you didn't have them. God, it would be so dumb just walking around slowly... I'd probably have killed myself in frustration long ago if it wasn't for the Sprint Shoes getting me everywhere faster than normal. And bear in mind, I have the old SNES version, so pressing the "dash" button isn't an option. Anyway, I think they're great.

As for "secretly good relics", I'm not too sure about that, mostly because I haven't played FFVI in a while. |

I always use the Sprint Shoes because I like to go through things fast. Why spend 20 minutes in town when you can do it in 12? Sure, there may be more useful relics in the game, but when you can use 8, why not sacrifice one for a little speed? Because I don't think the shoes are worthless, I would say there are alot of relics as "worthless" as the sprint shoes. But seriously, Cherub Downs are incredibly worthless. Sure, they give you float, but you could just cast float on everyone at anytime before or during battle. It's not as if float is all that useful anyway. As for "hidden" relics, the tintinabar is somewhat useful early in the game when you have low hp. Also, although they aren't exactly "hidden" (though you do "find" them) the running shoes are pretty useful as well, especially if you have someone who needs to attack more often. |

I disagree that the Cherub Down is a worthless relic, because one Dispel can remove the spell Float effect, as would death. Some enemies that cast Quake spells have a move that also removes the spell. By equipping the Cherub Down, you will ALWAYS have the Float effect. Quite handy, in my opinion, but ONLY for those few bosses. The Running Shoes are also nice for the same reason...you'll ALWAYS have Haste, which will negate any Slow spells thrown your way.

I've always got the Sprint Shoes equipped if I've got someone in my party who I'm going to lose, like Shadow, or on the Floating Continent... on Shadow. Until I have him for good, he's my SS character, because I'd rather not lose my best equipment due to a renegade runaway, you know?
Besides, I don't usually bother playing the PSX version, so it's rare that I ever have a "dash" button handy. As far as any of the other relics are concerned, well, I'll get back to you on that one.

I always used the sprint shoes until, like previously mentioned, the PSX version added the dash button.
But I find the Merit Award to be a fun little relic. Equipping Setzer, Relm or Strago with like the Illumina, Atma Weapon or Ragnarok is always neat. Its not the most useful but it does have its uses. Its fun.. And Neat... and ummmm.... er. *runs away* |

I usually tend to have somebody in my active party with Sprint Shoes to boost up the walking speed of the game, even on the PSX version (though the PSX version's double boost is kinda nasty...pressing the dash button while on SS is not my idea of traveling through areas)
Now, useful relics... the RunningShoes are nice, since Haste is the most commonly used stat boost in the game, but there are other nice ones: for example, the relic that allowed the character to have permanent Safe and Shell status (was it Pod Bracelet or Guard Ring? I don't quite remember); the Marvel Shoes (quite an oddysey to have 'em, but Regen is always a must); the Gale Hairpin, Back Guard, Charm Bangle and Moogle Charm, which is a must for all breezers and when you're bored of combat; the DragoonBoots/Dragon Horn combo: that's a fun combo, on Edgar and Mog is even funnier: instant Dragoons!!!!! (c'mon, they use spears as weapons, they are pleading for such!!!!); and more important, the Exp. Egg (2x experience is ALWAYS A MUST). Usually I tend not to worry too much about Relics, since equipment tends to make things easier for you, but those are fun combinations. BTW, I really have to give merit to the Merit Award (pun intended) and the guy who submitted the idea, though my characters tend to equip always the Strato and Genji equip. And, seriously, you guys forgot another uber-Relic: the Gem Box (right there, with the Genji Glove/Offering combo). Gem Box + Quick spell + Economizer = not fun game anymore. |

We didn't forget those relics, we just didn't mention them because we were scared of psiko's pie of DOOM. So you'd better watch it it's coming for you!
I liked the Muscle belt and Atlas armlet if you get them early enough in the game. But later on there not of much use. I like the Rage Ring, its pretty humorous, and then you just have to throw on the Blizzard orb for a sense of completion. |

I always stuck them on somebody in my party pre PlayStation era... it just made sense to move faster... back in my Sabin/Cyan party days Cyan always had them with an Atlas Armlet... I can't really explain why, but I just had a system ya know? Sabin always had either one Earrings and a Hyper Wrist, or double Earrings, and Cyan had Sprint Shoes and an Atlas Armlet
im glad of the dash feature in the Play Station (and Emulated) version... as it frees up a relic spot for me to use. It did screw up my system though, but the PlayStation did that anyways

I pretty much reserved myself to using the Sprint Shoes only while in town, but then they added the dash button and so there really is no point whatsoever.
I can't really say that any relics are totally useless, they all have a certain function or whatnot. My fav relic is probably True Knight, I dunno why, I guess it just goes well with the counterattack Hyper Wrist relic, ??I think that's what it's called. They were all pretty good though overall.
