Dark Knight or Paladin?

Ahh, yes.. the age old question of "How do you like your Cecil... evil or good?" heh.. you all know what i think about it, but i'll have my say anyway incase we get some new fella cruising by..

Cecil, IMO, should've remained (or, stayed longer as) a Dark Knight.. not only was he evil, but he was a badass mofo who was feared through-out the land, with his Red Wings behind him. Sure he may have had weaponry that lacked power in the short run, but it was still damn cool to have around... his Death Sword for example, may have been next to useless vs Undead monsters... but how many undead monsters are there in the game? 7 at the most, out of the 100 or so monsters/bosses (combined total) so thats nothing to be really concerned about.. he could still hack it up amongst the normal monsters (particularly with the added Death Spell with the Sword) just as easy as he could with any other weapon.. and his Dark Knight Armour, was something any warrior would want to have. With its added defense bonus vs Shadow/Undead attacks it was pretty damn nice to have equipped.

When Cecil changed to a Paladin, however, he is infact open to a make wider range of Weaponry/Armour aswell as the ability to cast some of the basic White Magic spells (pretty, eh, weak anyway), but he is (and what makes me like, not so fond of him as a Paladin) a "Holy Paladin" and his portrait in the menu's is well, kinda gay-ish... heh, guys dont usually wear Tiara's and have shiney long purple hair (probably his natural colour, but it looks gay to me) so, eh, no thanks.. i'll stay with my Dark Knight and his evil lookin helmet. .

I agree with what you are saying about the Dark Knight, however as you go through Mt. Ordeals it truly shows how temporarily useless the Dark Knight can be, specifically against the Undead. Even if there isn't any other Undead in the game, there are no swords later for him in the game. If they were going to keep him as a Dark Knight, they could have the whole way through and at the end have him give up his class, or become a Paladin. Kinda like someone following orders through the game, but not liking what they were doing, then saying enough is enough, I'm through with this lifestyle.

I like him as a Paladin better, granted he does look kind of gay, but I think he is so much stronger. Especially with the weapons you later find, Excalibur, Light Sword, and Ragnarok. Even the minimal White Magic helps, if Rosa is running low, and who really relied on potions in the earlier games of this series? I didn't, besides FF1, Magic was the key in this one regarding healing. It's too bad he lost his mass attack ability against creatures, I think they could have made a good holy one for him.

I liked the Dark Knight and such, and if he would be able to get stronger equipment and a better sword, I would love to keep him. However, the story of the Paladin was really interesting, and if Cecil did not become a Paladin, he could not defeat Golbez. Or so I remember from the story.

You know this thread always happens every forum boards you go to. The ultimate question of Dark Knight vs. Paladin. When even though the Dark Knight looks cool, the change to Paladin is integral to the story. The story would not be the same without it. It wouldn't be as good.

Really people all this is, is a cosmetic and ability change. The paladin is stronger, and what are you losing in a 16 bit sprite change? I mean it's not like were seeing a dramatic change from a Dark Knight to a Paladin on beautiful polygon 128 bit graphics. See my point.

I think Dark Knight is cool because I think Cecil looks awesome as a dark knight. o.O

Plus, I like the abilities better and the strength. I'm not really the white magic using type of guy.

The Dark Knight's only downfall is attacking the undead. If they had expanded on the whole Dark Knight thing, I guarantee he would have had some badass skill advances.

Heh, yeah, thats true about the Dark Knight.. his weaponry was ONLY NON-EFFECTIVE vs Undead.. everything else, got raped pretty damn bad by his equipment lol. But as for the Paladin being Weak vs Fire.. well, not true.. unless you had him equipped with Ice Armor/Shield/Helmet/Gauntlet so that Fire would do twice the amount of damage.. heh, if he had Fire Armor on, the affects are reduced somewhat.. but, with the Paladin and any other equipment (Non Elemental) Equipment, he gets the same damage from Fire as he would any other Element. Heh, unless he had the Adamant Armor on, then it wouldnt be doing more then 1 damage

I was just judging by the Super Nintendo version (which is all I have now since my brother is a butt****er and stole my copy of Chronicles XD) in which Cecil as a Paladin is indeed weak vs. Fire.

First ive heard of him being weak purely vs Fire.. check his equipment for me if you wouldnt mind, i want this confirmed! Unless.... hmm.. you been hit by a Flame attack? which is Fire Elemental and does damage based on a % of your HP? hm.. that MIGHT be why i can see your saying he is weak vs Fire.

I liked the dark knight better. Well i like the paladin too. I wish that you could choose between the paladin or dark knight and see the different paths the games would take. That would be really cool to see how characters react to your choice or maybe some characters would only join you if you choose a specific class.
Okay im going off subject, i like the dark knight and paladin equally, they are both excellent warriors.

I prefered him as a Dark Knight , mainly due to the badass value of him ( as are most Dark Knights in FF games : Auron , Paine etc. ).

BUT I thought attack wise and such he was better as a Paladin. The Dark Knight would have been useless later in the game -_-

Egh, Cecil is Cecil. DK or Pally, he'll still do for getting through the game. He'd be strong either way, and he'd still kick Zeromus' ass and still get hitched to Rosa. It's all good ^_^
